Sean Malone is an American musician who plays primarily fretless bass guitar and Chapman Stick. However, Malone also plays piano, keyboards, and guitar. Malone did a number of session jobs for various bands and musicians. He is most famous for his work in American band Cynic, in which he developed a strong partnership with the drummer Sean Reinert. Malone and Reinert played on several records together outside Cynic, making them one of the most favorable modern progressive rhythm sections.
In his early career, Malone has played as a session member for groups ranging from latin jazz and bossa nova to British pop music. His first high-level experience in metal music was in 1993 with the progressive metal band Cynic from Florida. He became Cynic's bassist quite unexpectedly; the band had a scheduled recording of their debut album, Focus in a studio in which Sean Malone was working as an assistant engineer, producer and a session musician. Cynic's bassist at the time, Tony Choy, left Cynic shortly before the recording would take place, so the band asked Malone to play bass on their soon-to-be-recorded LP. Malone proved to have quite a good musical chemistry with the rest of the band, and ended up touring the Focus Tour in 1993. The release has received very high critical acclaim and is considered nowadays as one of the landmark progressive metal records.

HiveMind: Distributed File Storage Using JavaScript Botnets SEAN MALONE PRINCIPAL SECURITY CONSULTANT, FUSIONX Some data is too sensitive or volatile to store on systems you own. What if we could store it somewhere else without compromising the security or availability of the data, while leveraging intended functionality to do so? This presentation will cover the methodology and tools required to create a distributed file store built on top of a JavaScript botnet. This type of data storage offers redundancy, encryption, and plausible deniability, but still allows you to store a virtually unlimited amount of data in any type of file. They can seize your server -- but the data's not there! Sean Malone has been building and breaking networks and applications for the last 12 years, and he h...

Another great #rejectedTalk we found was from Sean Malone (@seantmalone on Twitter). The Cyber Kill Chain is a method by which we explain the methodolgy of hackers and the process of hacking. In this discussion, we find Sean has expanded the #killchain, to be more selective, and to show the decision tree once you've gained access to hosts. This expanded #killChain is also effective for understanding when #hackers are attacking specific systems, like #SCADA, or other specialized systems or networks, like the #SWIFT banking transfer. This discussion also is great for showing management the time and effort required to gain access to systems. We also talk about the #OODA loop (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OODA_loop) and how disrupting that will often cause attacks to go awry or to...

Sean Malone Of Cynic Warming Up On Bass
An effective red team exercise is substantially different from a penetration test, and it should be chartered differently as well. The scenario, objective, scope, and rules of engagement all need to be positioned correctly at the beginning in order to most closely simulate a real adversary and provide maximum value to the client. In this presentation, we’ll review best practices in each of these areas, distilled from conducting dozens of successful red team exercises - along with some war stories highlighting why each element matters. Those in offensive security will gain an understanding of how to manage the client’s expectations for this process, and how to guide them towards an engagement that provides a realistic measurement of their ability to prevent, detect, and respond t...
