California travel expert Veronica Hill of http://www.CaliforniaTravelExpert.com visits McArthur Burney Falls State Park in this episode of "California Travel Tips."
This beautiful evergreen forest, located just north of Redding between Lassen Peak and Mt. Shasta in California's lava country, is famous for its 129-foot waterfall, which cascades from Burney Creek down into Lake Britton. The falls are a sacred place for the Pit River Indian Tribe, who have held ceremonial rituals here for thousands of years.
President Theodor Roosevelt called these falls one of the wonders of the world. The year-round falls are formed by melting snow from Burney Mountain, which travels through underground streams before hitting solid rock and flowing back to the surface. Each day, more than 100 million gallons of water plunge over the falls.
While you're here, don't miss the Falls Loop Trail, which is a 1-mile hike to the base of the falls and back up. During the walk, you'll see lava flows and fractured basalt — evidence of the region's turbulent volcanic activity. After descending 100 feet into Burney Canyon, we're rewarded with a cool mist at the base of the falls.
The 20-foot pool is quite popular with fishermen, who regularly pull in rainbow, brook and brown trout. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks are allowed, and the season runs from late April through Nov. 15. Swimming is discouraged in the pool, which maintains a chilly 48 degrees.
As the trail continues uphill, you'll reach the top of the falls and circle back to the visitor center. The cliffs at the edge of the falls are unstable, so be sure to stay behind the fence!
If you want to stay the night, Burney Falls State Park has an excellent campground, with 128 sites, flush restrooms and showers. You can also book one of their 1- or 2-bedroom cabins, which are equipped with fire rings, propane heaters, picnic tables and bunk beds. Just note that there is no electricity, so bring along lanterns and your own bedding. At the Burney Falls General Store, you can stock up on grocery items, souvenirs and snacks.
During your stay, you can rent a canoe, paddle or rowboat for a day on Lake Britton, or head into Lassen Volcanic National Park. The McArthur Burney Falls park Heritage Day is held annually on Columbus Day in October.
After visiting Burney Falls, be sure to pull into Dusty Campground for a peek at the bridge from "Stand By Me."

California is a special place as it has a dramatic difference in landscape in different areas of the state. From gorgeous coastline to spectacular mountains in Yosemite and everything inbetween. This made the concept of shooting the entire state rather difficult but a very enjoyable challenge! The goal with this piece was to show the vast differences and the first clips really shows that. A snow covered mountain in northern Califorina (Mt Shasta) brings you out of the typical California video and into this video with eyes wide open!
The timing for this video was exceptional as we were able to capture the sunset at Pfeiffer beach coming through the portal as it only does for one month per year! The weather as well was spectacular resulting in some gorgeous sunsets and clear skies for the star trail shots near the end of the video!

Northern California
Northern California, often abbreviated NorCal, is the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. Spanning the state's northernmost 48 counties, in contrast to the 10 counties of Southern California, its main population centers include the San Francisco Bay Area (anchored by the cities of San Francisco, San Jose, and Oakland), the Greater Sacramento area (anchored by the state capital Sacramento), and the Metropolitan Fresno area (anchored by the city of Fresno). Northern California also contains redwood forests, along with the Sierra Nevada including Yosemite Valley and part of Lake Tahoe, Mount Shasta (the second-highest peak in the Cascade Range after Mount Rainier in Washington), and the northern portion of the Central Valley, one of the world's most productive agricultural regions.
The 48-county definition is not used for the Northern California Megaregion, one of the 11 megaregions of the United States. The megaregion's area is instead defined from Metropolitan Fresno north to Greater Sacramento, and from the Bay Area east across Nevada state line to encompass the entire Lake Tahoe-Reno area.

Burney Falls
Burney Falls is a waterfall on Burney Creek, in McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, Shasta County, California.
The water comes from underground springs above and at the falls, which are 129 feet high, and provides an almost constant flow rate of 379 million litres per day, even during the dry summer months.
The falls are an example of river drainage regulated by stratigraphically-controlled springs, and also of a waterfall formed by undercutting of horizontal strata.
The falls were called "the Eighth Wonder of the World" by President Theodore Roosevelt, and were declared a National Natural Landmark in December 1954.

From sweeping desert vistas to staggering mountain views, California contains some of the most insanely beautiful sights in America. There are canyons to explore, salt flats to marvel over, and some of the most amazing views of the stars available... and this timelapse captures them perfectly. Turn the Volume up, HD on and enjoy California!! *if you are capable of watching in a higher resolution than 1080p head on over to youtube and choose original as this film was finished in 4k* California is a special place as it has a dramatic difference in landscape in different areas of the state. From gorgeous coastline to spectacular mountains in Yosemite and everything inbetween. This made the concept of shooting the entire state rather difficult but a very enjoyable challenge! The goal with this piece was to show the vast differences and the first clips really shows that. A snow covered mountain in northern Califorina (Mt Shasta) brings you out of the typical California video and into this video with eyes wide open! The timing for this video was exceptional as we were able to capture the sunset at Pfeiffer beach coming through the portal as it only does for one month per year! Grant Davis is the runner and voice of the film. He's also probably the smartest friend that I have. He can find meaning to just about everything. If he decides to do something, he'll do it right, and then he'll tell you all about why it matters. I was stoked to team up again with my good friend MP Cunningham to shoot this little film as he always has amazing ideas that make things a million times better. Sometimes while shooting, I think you can be so overwhelmed and distracted by not only what you see with your eyes but also by what you hear and smell and taste, that it's hard to actually know how to capture what's in front of you. This beautiful evergreen forest, located just north of Redding between Lassen Peak and Mt. Shasta in California's lava country, is famous for its 129-foot waterfall, which cascades from Burney Creek down into Lake Britton. The falls are a sacred place for the Pit River Indian Tribe, who have held ceremonial rituals here for thousands of years.
President Theodor Roosevelt called these falls one of the wonders of the world. The year-round falls are formed by melting snow from Burney Mountain, which travels through underground streams before hitting solid rock and flowing back to the surface. Each day, more than 100 million gallons of water plunge over the falls.
While you're here, don't miss the Falls Loop Trail, which is a 1-mile hike to the base of the falls and back up. During the walk, you'll see lava flows and fractured basalt — evidence of the region's turbulent volcanic activity. After descending 100 feet into Burney Canyon, we're rewarded with a cool mist at the base of the falls.
The 20-foot pool is quite popular with fishermen, who regularly pull in rainbow, brook and brown trout. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks are allowed, and the season runs from late April through Nov. 15. Swimming is discouraged in the pool, which maintains a chilly 48 degrees.
As the trail continues uphill, you'll reach the top of the falls and circle back to the visitor center. The cliffs at the edge of the falls are unstable, so be sure to stay behind the fence!
If you want to stay the night, Burney Falls State Park has an excellent campground, with 128 sites, flush restrooms and showers. You can also book one of their 1- or 2-bedroom cabins, which are equipped with fire rings, propane heaters, picnic tables and bunk beds. Just note that there is no electricity, so bring along lanterns and your own bedding. At the Burney Falls General Store, you can stock up on grocery items, souvenirs and snacks.
During your stay, you can rent a canoe, paddle or rowboat for a day on Lake Britton, or head into Lassen Volcanic National Park. The McArthur Burney Falls park Heritage Day is held annually on Columbus Day in October.
After visiting Burney Falls, be sure to pull into Dusty Campground for a peek at the bridge from "Stand By Me."

From sweeping desert vistas to staggering mountain views, California contains some of the most insanely beautiful sights in America. There are canyons to explore, salt flats to marvel over, and some of the most amazing views of the stars available... and this timelapse captures them perfectly.

California is a special place as it has a dramatic difference in landscape in different areas of the state. From gorgeous coastline to spectacular mountains in Yosemite and everything inbetween. This made the concept of shooting the entire state rather difficult but a very enjoyable challenge! The goal with this piece was to show the vast differences and the first clips really shows that. A snow covered mountain in northern Califorina (Mt Shasta) brings you out of the typical California video and into this video with eyes wide open!
The timing for this video was exceptional as we were able to capture the sunset at Pfeiffer beach coming through the portal as it only does for one month per year! The weather as well was spectacular resulting in some gorgeous sunsets and clear skies for the star trail shots near the end of the video!

But let me go on record to say that even with the experience of growing up in Utah, and having a pretty good collection of stamps in the passport, I’m not sure if I’ve ever experienced a richer or more delicious landscape then that of Northern California, and I don’t think it could have been better said than this:

Grant Davis is the runner and voice of the film. He's also probably the smartest friend that I have. He can find meaning to just about everything. If he decides to do something, he'll do it right, and then he'll tell you all about why it matters.
I was stoked to team up again with my good friend MP Cunningham to shoot this little film as he always has amazing ideas that make things a million times better.
Sometimes while shooting, I think you can be so overwhelmed and distracted by not only what you see with your eyes but also by what you hear and smell and taste, that it's hard to actually know how to capture what's in front of you. Yet there are other times when the complete opposite is true and everything you sense seems to just ease itself into an image. I think a lot of it has to do with you're intentions, and who you have around you. This was an interesting project because we came into it relatively unscripted and without any real burdening expectations. I think that, coupled with just being with good friends, lent to some good karma. We landed in San Francisco and spent the next 3 days driving north and shooting what we saw along the way.

This beautiful evergreen forest, located just north of Redding between Lassen Peak and Mt. Shasta in California's lava country, is famous for its 129-foot waterfall, which cascades from Burney Creek down into Lake Britton. The falls are a sacred place for the Pit River Indian Tribe, who have held ceremonial rituals here for thousands of years.
President Theodor Roosevelt called these falls one of the wonders of the world. The year-round falls are formed by melting snow from Burney Mountain, which travels through underground streams before hitting solid rock and flowing back to the surface. Each day, more than 100 million gallons of water plunge over the falls.
While you're here, don't miss the Falls Loop Trail, which is a 1-mile hike to the base of the falls and back up. During the walk, you'll see lava flows and fractured basalt — evidence of the region's turbulent volcanic activity. After descending 100 feet into Burney Canyon, we're rewarded with a cool mist at the base of the falls.
The 20-foot pool is quite popular with fishermen, who regularly pull in rainbow, brook and brown trout. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks are allowed, and the season runs from late April through Nov. 15. Swimming is discouraged in the pool, which maintains a chilly 48 degrees.
As the trail continues uphill, you'll reach the top of the falls and circle back to the visitor center. The cliffs at the edge of the falls are unstable, so be sure to stay behind the fence!
If you want to stay the night, Burney Falls State Park has an excellent campground, with 128 sites, flush restrooms and showers. You can also book one of their 1- or 2-bedroom cabins, which are equipped with fire rings, propane heaters, picnic tables and bunk beds. Just note that there is no electricity, so bring along lanterns and your own bedding. At the Burney Falls General Store, you can stock up on grocery items, souvenirs and snacks.
During your stay, you can rent a canoe, paddle or rowboat for a day on Lake Britton, or head into Lassen Volcanic National Park. The McArthur Burney Falls park Heritage Day is held annually on Columbus Day in October.
After visiting Burney Falls, be sure to pull into Dusty Campground for a peek at the bridge from "Stand By Me."

From sweeping desert vistas to staggering mountain views, California contains some of the most insanely beautiful sights in America. There are canyons to explore, salt flats to marvel over, and some of the most amazing views of the stars available... and this timelapse captures them perfectly.

California is a special place as it has a dramatic difference in landscape in different areas of the state. From gorgeous coastline to spectacular mountains in Yosemite and everything inbetween. This made the concept of shooting the entire state rather difficult but a very enjoyable challenge! The goal with this piece was to show the vast differences and the first clips really shows that. A snow covered mountain in northern Califorina (Mt Shasta) brings you out of the typical California video and into this video with eyes wide open!
The timing for this video was exceptional as we were able to capture the sunset at Pfeiffer beach coming through the portal as it only does for one month per year! The weather as well was spectacular resulting in some gorgeous sunsets and clear skies for the star trail shots near the end of the video!

But let me go on record to say that even with the experience of growing up in Utah, and having a pretty good collection of stamps in the passport, I’m not sure if I’ve ever experienced a richer or more delicious landscape then that of Northern California, and I don’t think it could have been better said than this:

Grant Davis is the runner and voice of the film. He's also probably the smartest friend that I have. He can find meaning to just about everything. If he decides to do something, he'll do it right, and then he'll tell you all about why it matters.
I was stoked to team up again with my good friend MP Cunningham to shoot this little film as he always has amazing ideas that make things a million times better.
Sometimes while shooting, I think you can be so overwhelmed and distracted by not only what you see with your eyes but also by what you hear and smell and taste, that it's hard to actually know how to capture what's in front of you. Yet there are other times when the complete opposite is true and everything you sense seems to just ease itself into an image. I think a lot of it has to do with you're intentions, and who you have around you. This was an interesting project because we came into it relatively unscripted and without any real burdening expectations. I think that, coupled with just being with good friends, lent to some good karma. We landed in San Francisco and spent the next 3 days driving north and shooting what we saw along the way.

Grant Davis is the runner and voice of the film. He's also probably the smartest friend that I have. He can find meaning to just about everything. If he decides to do something, he'll do it right, and then he'll tell you all about why it matters.
I was stoked to team up again with my good friend MP Cunningham to shoot this little film as he always has amazing ideas that make things a million times better.
Sometimes while shooting, I think you can be so overwhelmed and distracted by not only what you see with your eyes but also by what you hear and smell and taste, that it's hard to actually know how to capture what's in front of you. Yet there are other times when the complete opposite is true and everything you sense seems to just ease itself into an image. I think a lot of it has to do with you're intentions, and who you have around you. This was an interesting project because we came into it relatively unscripted and without any real burdening expectations. I think that, coupled with just being with good friends, lent to some good karma. We landed in San Francisco and spent the next 3 days driving north and shooting what we saw along the way.
