I was 10 years old when I met Kofi Annan in person at the Children Word Festival held by the United Nations in Switzerland. For a girl from a small country in the Central Asia it was strong impression. Since that moment I have been dreaming to work for United Nations.

28 April 2017 UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic informed about the launch of a new project “Strong and Inclusive Parliamentary Democracy” aimed at strengthening parliamentary democracy in the Kyrgyz Republic, ensuring its transparency and accountability to citizens.

2 March 2017 UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Alexander Avanessov had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Erlan Abdyldaev. The meeting was timed to mark 25th anniversary of the accidence of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations.

With USD 11.9 million from the Government of Japan, Kyrgyzstan today launched three major programmes to respectively build up the country’s civil registry, increase capacity to respond to disasters, and make schools safer. These will be implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The official ceremony signing of the Exchange Notes, in order to launch three new projects took place among Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Yoshihiro Yamamura, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Alexander Avanessov and UNICEF Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Mrs. Yukie Mokuo.

3 March 2017, the first meeting of the Coordination council to oversee the implementation of the package of progressive laws within the judiciary-legal reform process took place in the Government’s office under the leadership of the vice-prime-minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Jenish Razakov.

The growth of sales of honey in Japan accelerated after 2014. The number of yogurt and honey consumers has grown. In 2015 there was a sharp jump in honey growth of 24% in price and. After the media enlightened on the benefits of digestion of consuming yogurt in combination with honey, the volume has significantly increased by 19%.

“Changing the stereotype of young people living on different sides of “One Street” is one of the most important parts of the project to build a cross-border cooperation in border communities,” - says Akyn Bakirov, the UNDP specialist in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Innovative conference was held in Bishkek where participants and partners of project used an interactive approach to visualize results of work, lessons learned and recommendations to the public bodies in the Kyrgyz Republic.

UNDP colleagues visited famous cow Zorka, living in the aksakal Bektursun Orozaliev’s in Luxemburg village, Chui oblast. Zorka was the first caw in the Kyrgyz Republic who received in a solemn ceremony the first electronic identification passport #000000001 18 November 2016.

Over two hundred representatives of local self-governments, civil society organizations representing interests of persons with disabilities from seven oblasts of the country took part in the Republican conference “Equal rights = Equal opportunities”, dedicated to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

There are more than 172 million persons with disabilities live in the Kyrgyz Republic today and their number, unfortunately, is continuing to grow. Despite the changes in the legislation in order to improve their rights, persons with disabilities continue to face barriers to their participation in society as equal members.

20 young people graduated the Media laboratory, established on the basis of the Public Regional Television and Radio Broadcasting Company “Yntymak”. They were trained in preparing news and radio reportages and got knowledge on peacebuilding journalism.

Kyrgyzstan launches the training of specialists and identification of livestock in accordance with the requirements of the EURASEC.
