Roger Scott (23 October 1943 – 31 October 1989) was a British radio disc jockey. He was best known for presenting an afternoon radio show on London's Capital Radio from 1973 until 1988.
Born in London in 1943, Roger Scott developed an early love of the rock and roll music being created at the end of the 1950s and early 1960s. As a teenager, he began playing records out the window of his suburban London home and watching the reaction of passers-by to the music.
After a brief time as a merchant seaman, Scott found his way to the United States and joined the radio station WPTR in Albany, New York in 1966. Scott's job, based on his British accent, was to be 'friend of the Beatles', and Scott learned the craft of disc jockey, working with Boom Boom Brannigan and other legendary names at the station. Eight months later he left WPTR to become the evening presenter at the Montreal station 1470 CFOX. From 1967 to 1971 he was known by listeners for his on-air antics and for his passionate love of music. Notable during this time was his participation in "Give Peace a Chance", recorded by John Lennon with Yoko Ono during their 'Bed-in' for peace at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal.
Roger is an English male given name and surname, from the Anglo-Norman French Roger, Rogier, which is itself derived from Germanic words (hroth, hruod and ger) meaning respectively "fame" and "spear". In Anglo-Saxon sources the name is first recorded, in the Dark Age epic poem Beowulf, as Hroðgar ("glorious spear-bearer").
The name is also found in the Netherlands in the form Rutger, and in German as Rüdiger. The Latin form, as used by a few medieval figures, is Rogerius. A Welsh variation is the family name Rosser.
Roger is also a short version of the term "Jolly Roger", which refers to a black flag with white skull and crossbones, formerly used by sea pirates since as early as 1723.
From c.1650 to c.1870, Roger was slang for the word "penis", probably due to the origin of the name involving fame with a spear. Subsequently, "to roger" became a slang verb form meaning "to have sex with"/"to penetrate".
In 19th century England, Roger was slang for the cloud of toxic green gas that swept through the chlorine bleach factories periodically.
Capital London is regional radio station owned and operated by Global Radio as part of the Capital radio network.
Following the 1964–68 offshore radio boom, the Conservative Party, under Edward Heath promised in its 1970 General Election Manifesto that should it win, it would introduce local commercial radio in addition to the commercial television that had started in 1955. This was a result of lobbying from pressure groups including the Local Radio Association, who felt that commercial radio should be introduced following the launch of ITV over a decade before. The Tories won and swiftly introduced the Sound Broadcasting Act 1972, which allowed for the introduction of Independent Local Radio and created the newly renamed Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) from the Independent Television Authority.
The Independent Broadcasting Authority advertised local radio licences in certain locations in the United Kingdom under the umbrella term of Independent Local Radio (ILR). London was due to receive two ILR licences: one for news and another for general entertainment. Radio Capital, later to become Capital Radio, was formed in early 1970 by David Maule-ffinch with the intent to apply for the general entertainment licence. In late 1970, Maule-ffinch's future father-in-law, Barclay Barclay-White became involved. The Radio Capital team that was finally in place at the time of application to the IBA included Sir Richard Attenborough, Sir George Martin, Bryan Forbes, Sir Peter Saunders, David Maule-ffinch and Barclay Barclay-White. David Maule-Ffinch was a member of the board of Capital Radio and its largest stockholder until 1994, when he sold his controlling interest to Information et Publicite, a subsidiary of Havas, the French media conglomerate.

This is the first hour of a 4 hour show called Girls, Girls, Girls. Part of Roger Scott's cruising series featuring hits of the late 50s and early 60s. The title speaks for itself really, the best of British & American girl singers of the era. The quality is not great as it was taped using a microphone in front of a radio but it is a good bit of nostalgia and a tribute to a great DJ. I do have the other 3 parts also.

This interview between Kate Bush and Roger Scott was first aired on Oct. 14, 1989 in support of her album "The Sensual World". The Sensual World debuted on Oct. 16, 1989. Sadly, Roger Scott died shortly thereafter on Oct. 31, 1989. There are 2 different recordings of the interview – the official PROMO CASSETTE SPRO-458 (running time: 55min. 39sec.), which is the majority of the audio in this video, and the broadcast interview (running time: 42min. 10sec., though the aired interview was most likely longer as the songs were played at intervals). The broadcast version was edited down from this hour-long interview. I have created a no-frills video from these audio sources. The brief Intro and Outro do not appear on the cassette version; I have edited this in from the broadcast. This is pri...

British radio DJ Roger Scott interview with The Carpenters from 1974 during their European tour. Some of the audio is warped and parts are silent due to music being played and copyright. Roger was almost as well known for his interviews with musicians as he was for his radio shows, especially towards the end of his career. Many artists would often specifically ask for Roger to conduct interviews as they knew with his musical knowledge the questions would always be relevant and intuitive.
