John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of the band the Beatles, the most commercially successful band in the history of popular music. With fellow member Paul McCartney, he formed a celebrated songwriting partnership.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager; his first band, the Quarrymen, evolved into the Beatles in 1960. When the group disbanded in 1970, Lennon embarked on a solo career that produced the critically acclaimed albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance", "Working Class Hero", and "Imagine". After his marriage to Yoko Ono in 1969, he changed his name to John Ono Lennon. Lennon disengaged himself from the music business in 1975 to raise his infant son Sean, but re-emerged with Ono in 1980 with the new album Double Fantasy. He was murdered three weeks after its release.
"Come Together" is a song by the Beatles written by John Lennon but credited to Lennon–McCartney. The song is the opening track on the album Abbey Road and was released as a double A-sided single with "Something", their 21st single in the United Kingdom and 26th in the United States. The song reached the top of the charts in the US and peaked at number four in the UK.
The song's history began when Lennon was inspired by Timothy Leary's campaign for governor of California against Ronald Reagan, which promptly ended when Leary was sent to prison for possession of marijuana:
It has been speculated that each verse refers cryptically to one of the Beatles. It has also been suggested that the song has only a single "pariah-like protagonist" and Lennon was "painting another sardonic self-portrait".
Lennon played rhythm guitar and sang the vocal, McCartney played bass, Harrison played lead guitar, and Starr played drums. It was produced by George Martin and recorded at the end of July 1969 at Abbey Road Studios. In the intro, Lennon says: "shoot me", which is accompanied by his handclaps and McCartney's heavy bass riff. The famous Beatles' "walrus" from "I Am the Walrus" and "Glass Onion" returns in the line "he got walrus gumboot", followed by "he got Ono sideboard". Bluesman Muddy Waters is also mentioned in the song.
"Meat City" is a song written by John Lennon, released as the 12th and final track on his 1973 album Mind Games. The song is also the B-side of the single "Mind Games", and is included on the 2010 album, Gimme Some Truth.
Lennon began to write "Meat City" soon after he moved to New York City. The song began as boogie entitled "Shoeshine" but by late 1971 it began to take its final form, albeit with improvised lyrics. A demo was made by Lennon on 10 September 1971, called "Just Give Me Some Rock 'n' Roll", while Lennon was recording the soundtrack to an unreleased film, Clock. By late 1972, Lennon had rewritten the lyrics and finished developing the melody.
Authors Ben Urish and Ken Bielen suggest that "Meat City" "has no deep meaning but demonstrates that Lennon could still fashion a perfectly fine rocker if he wanted." The first part of the song reflects Lennon's excitement over the vitality of New York, America, and rock 'n' roll, despite being repulsed by some of the city's madness. Music critic Johnny Rogan interprets some of the lyrics as a parody on jive talk as well as on American consumerism. As an example, he gives the lines:
The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960. With members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they became widely regarded as the foremost and most influential act of the rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several genres, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements in innovative ways. In the early 1960s, their enormous popularity first emerged as "Beatlemania", but as the group's music grew in sophistication, led by primary songwriters Lennon and McCartney, they came to be perceived as an embodiment of the ideals shared by the counterculture of the 1960s.
The Beatles built their reputation playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg over a three-year period from 1960, with Stuart Sutcliffe initially serving as bass player. The core of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison went through a succession of drummers, most notably Pete Best, before asking Starr to join them. Manager Brian Epstein moulded them into a professional act and producer George Martin enhanced their musical potential. They gained popularity in the United Kingdom after their first hit, "Love Me Do", in late 1962. They acquired the nickname "the Fab Four" as Beatlemania grew in Britain over the following year, and by early 1964 they had become international stars, leading the "British Invasion" of the United States pop market. From 1965 onwards, the Beatles produced what many consider their finest material, including the innovative and widely influential albums Rubber Soul (1965), Revolver (1966), Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), The Beatles (commonly known as the White Album, 1968) and Abbey Road (1969).
When John and Yoko moved to New York City in August 1971, they initially stayed at the St Regis Hotel. While there John recorded several song demos, including a song named Shoeshine. The piece was a simple boogie rocker, including snippets from Gary US Bonds' Quarter To Three. It also featured the lines "Just got to give me some rock 'n' roll/Well the people were dancing like they were mad", which Lennon reworked for Meat City two years later. In the early summer of 1973 John recorded home demos of several songs which ended up on Mind Games, one of which was Meat City.He taped two versions on an electric guitar; it was a blues-based boogie, and contained a riff which he later used towards the end of another song,Steel And Glass.

Lennon Remembered' was a half-hour television tribute to John Lennon, produced by CNN and broadcast on Superstation TBS in 1981 on the first anniversary of his murder. The documentary was produced, written and directed by David Guilbault. (Digitized from an old VHS copy). ----- On December 8th in 1980, when John Lennon was murdered, I was producing a two-hour live show on CNN, called "Take Two". We, of course, devoted the entire program that day to the news of his killing, his life and his music. A year later, for the anniversary of his death, I was tasked to produce a half-hour tribute that aired on WTBS. My budget was zero, so I literally had to beg or borrow every piece of footage I could get my hands on and put the show together quickly. Still, it was a labor of love. With what ...

According to Dr. Horowitz's research, published on the Internet and in The Book of 528: Prosperity Key of LOVE, the 528Hz frequency is associated with the "center of the musical-mathematical matrix of creation" as "pure tone LOVE." This video had been previously posted on the Internet, and was removed for unknown reasons. Then a most bizarre thing happened, some of the recordings of Lennon on YouTube were ...

Arkells sing “I ain’t going to fear the New Year, no,no…” and this year, they are putting that mandate into motion. Formed in 2006 in Hamilton, ON, the band recorded and released their debut EP “Deadlines” in 2007. The six songs bring the listener rock as it should be; catchy, raw and unbridled. Arkells have succeeded in blending traditional blues hooks mixed with rock heavy riffs, and a hint of soul on the side. From the strum of the first chord, the music ignites into a fury of addictive and muscular cadence, taking hold of the listener in all the right ways. The five piece band is made up of Tim Oxford on drums, Dan Griffin on keys, Mike DeAngelis on guitar, Nick Dika on bass and Max Kerman on guitar and vocals (though all members layer their voices on most songs). Nearly 5 Years ago I visited Paris for two days and made this film. It is a very special place and I could see and sense the challenges it faced but equally admired the diversity of it's population and freedom it allowed it’s’ people to express. It's a very sad day for all of us as this very freedom has been attacked in such a callous way by just a few people. We must not let them win and so we must all stand together to never let this happen ever again. ----------- I thought I'd relax and catch a weekend in Paris with my family, just a few photos and videos for the album. When I got there I just couldn't resist. I found myself live on national TV as a roller blader 'Taig Khris' jumped off the Eiffel Tower in midst of thousands of people, chased by a gangster as he and his friends played ...

"The Day John Lennon Died" (documentary 2010) is a look at Lennon and his death through archival footage and interviews. Someone once said to me when politicians are assassinated it's one thing, but "when they start killing the artists," it's a bad sign. John Lennon's loss was certainly devastating, and I'm not sure it could have been avoided. Perhaps it might have been delayed, though. He was a man who loved New York, loved walking down the street. He didn't have bodyguards, and he signed autographs outside of the Dakota. Part of the problem is that the security people at the Dakota apparently let people "hang out" there -- a mistake -- and another is that Lennon didn't always enter or leave the Dakota by driving directly in or out of the garage. So as the completely obsessed Mark Davi...

It was good that we filmed it, though. The film is powerful now. What we said then could have been said now. In fact, there are things that we said then in the film, which may give some encouragement and inspiration to the activists of today. Good luck to us all. Let's remember WAR IS OVER If We Want It. The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder: John, Paul, Tom & Ringo brings together captivating interviews with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr.

In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview. Fastforward to present day and using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon’s every word. Raskin marries traditional pen sketches by James Braithwaite. James Braithwaite is an illustrator, animator, and director based out of Montreal Canada. James’s first animation, “I Met the Walrus” won best short animation from the American Film Institute, and was nominated for an Academy Award in 2008. The film has since been nominated for an Emmy, and has won two awards at the Banff Television Awards.
