John the Evangelist (also John the Theologian or John the Divine; Greek: Εὐαγγελιστής Ἰωάννης) is traditionally regarded as the author of the Gospel of John, and other Johannine works in the New Testament: the three Epistles of John and the Book of Revelation.
The word "evangelist" means "writer of a gospel", from the Greek word for gospel, ευαγγελιον (or in Latin, evangelium).
The Gospel of John refers to an otherwise unnamed "disciple whom Jesus loved", who "bore witness to and wrote" the Gospel's message. The composer of the Gospel of John seemed interested in maintaining the internal anonymity of the author's identity, though interpreting the Gospel in the light of the Synoptic Gospels and considering that the author names (and therefore is not claiming to be) both Peter and James, it has generally been accepted that the author either was the Apostle John or was pretending to be.
Christian tradition says that John the Evangelist was the Apostle John. The Apostle John was a historical figure, one of the "pillars" of the Jerusalem church after Jesus' death. He was one of Christ's original Twelve apostles and is thought to be the only one to have lived into old age and not be killed for his faith. John is associated with the city of Ephesus, where he is said to have lived and been buried. Some believe that he was exiled (around 95 AD) to the Aegean island of Patmos, where he wrote the Book of Revelation. However, this is a matter of debate, with some attributing the authorship of Revelation to another man, called John of Patmos or to John the Presbyter.
Saint John or St. John usually refers to John the Apostle of the Bible.

St. John, the Evangelist, who is referred in the Gospel as, "the beloved disciple” was a Galilean, brother to St. James the Greater, both of whom were fishermen. As his disciple, Jesus showed St. John particular affection above all the rest. He was allowed to rest on Our Savior's bosom at the Last Supper. As Jesus hung dying on the Cross he confided the care of His holy Mother to St. John. St. John was the only one of the Apostles who did not forsake the Savior in the hour of His Passion and Death. He wrote his Gospel, about sixty-three years after the Ascension of Christ, also after the other Evangelists He was brought to Rome and, according to tradition, was cast into a caldron of boiling oil by order of Emperor Domitian. We aren't taking Christmas off! This week, the hosts discuss the feast of St. John the Evangelist, one of the two saints to whom many Masonic lodges are dedicated.
St. John, Apostle and Evangelist St. John the Apostle, the son of Zebedee and Salome, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. John was called to be an Apostle by our Lord in the first year of His public ministry. He is considered the same person as John the Evangelist, John of Patmos and the Beloved Disciple. John's older brother was St. James the Great, another one of Jesus' Twelve Apostles. Jesus referred to the brothers as "Boanerges," meaning "sons of thunder." John is believed to be the longest living apostle and the only not to die a martyr's death. John, along with Peter and James, were the only witnesses of the raising of Daughter of Jairus, and the closest witnesses to the Agony in Gethsemane. John was the one who reported to Jesus they had "'forbidden' a non-disciple from cast...

What are some common misunderstandings about D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones? What was most of his ministry spent on? Mrs. Lloyd-Jones says, “No one will understand my husband, who does not know that he was first a man of prayer and then an evangelist.” Pastors Mark Dever and John MacArthur sit with Lloyd-Jones’ biographer, Iain Murray, and his grandson, Jonathan Catherwood, to discuss the life of this pastor-evangelist whom evangelicalism owes so much to. See more panels at www.t4g.org.

Purchase at heritagebooks.org With a “gutless orthodoxy,” Christians today quickly affirm biblical truth regarding evangelism and mission, but, author Jeremy Walker reminds us, “we cannot pretend that we know and believe the truth about men, souls, heaven, hell, and salvation unless it is making a difference in the way we think, feel, pray, speak, and act.” How do Christians develop this sense of urgency to see lost sinners saved? What motivates our evangelism? We must have the character of the brokenhearted evangelist, the David of Psalm 51, who recognizes the greatness of his own sin, looks to God for forgiveness, then recognizes his undeniable obligation to teach transgressors God’s ways. In an engaging style and with pastoral warmth, Walker urges Christians to exercise their obligation...

I took her out of her world
And put her into mine
I took away what she knew
Had treasured over time
Let's sail away, baby
I can't explain what I see
Let's sail away, baby
Please try and follow me
I took her out of her home
A cabin near the woods
And took her to this desert
With threatening neighbourhoods
Well I believe, baby
I thought it was better for us
Yes I believe, baby
There was gold in that dust
And now I see, baby
I put distance into your own life
Let's sail away, baby
Let's sail into this life
She drove a Golf white diesel
She drove me through the streets
She took me into her world
Of parks and wooden seats
And I remember, baby
I remember it all
Yes I remember, baby
I remember it all
Let's sail away, baby
I thought it was better for us
And I believe, baby
I believe in us
Let's sail away, baby
I can't explain what I see
And I believe, baby
I believe, I believe, I believe
And I remember, baby
I remember it all
And I believe, baby
