An military airbase (sometimes referred to as a military airfield, military airport, air force station, air force base or short airbase) is an aerodrome used by a military force for the operation of military aircraft.
An airbase typically has some facilities similar to a civilian airport—for example air traffic control and firefighting. Some military aerodromes have passenger facilities; for example RAF Brize Norton in England has a terminal used by passengers for the Royal Air Force's flights by TriStar to the Falkland Islands. A number of military airbases also have a civil enclave for commercial passenger flights, e.g. Beijing Nanyuan Airport (China), Ibaraki Airport (Japan), Burlington International Airport (USA).
Some airbases have revetments, hardened aircraft shelters, or even underground hangars, to protect aircraft from enemy attack. Combat aircraft require storage of aircraft ordnance. An airbase may be defended by anti-aircraft weapons and force protection troops.
In baseball, a force is a situation when a baserunner is compelled (or forced) to vacate his time-of-pitch base—and thus try to advance to the next base—because the batter became a runner. A runner at first base is always forced to attempt to advance to second base when the batter becomes a runner. Runners at second or third base are forced only when all bases preceding their time-of-pitch base are occupied by other baserunners and the batter becomes a runner.
A forced runner's force base is the next base beyond his time-of-pitch base. Any attempt by fielders to put a forced runner out is called a force play. Think of forced runners as bumper cars. If with a runner on first, the batter hits a ground ball, the batter must run to first, and since two runners are not allowed to stay on one base at one time, the runner who was on first to begin with is now bumper-carred by the advancing batter over to second. If there already was a runner on second as well, that runner is now bumper-carred over to third, and so on. If a runner is bumper-carred over to the next base by the advancing batter or by another runner who was bumper-carred by the advancing batter, then that runner is considered to have been forced to advance to the next base. If, however, with a runner on third, for example, the batter hits a ground ball, the batter must run to first, but the runner on third, not having been bumper-carred by the batter, is not forced to advance and can stay where he is if he elects to.
An air force, also known in some countries as an air army, is in the broadest sense, the national military organization that primarily conducts aerial warfare. More specifically, it is the branch of a nation's armed services that is responsible for aerial warfare as distinct from an army, navy, or a marine corps. Typically, air forces are responsible for gaining control of the air, carrying out strategic and tactical bombing missions, and providing support to land and naval forces.
The term "air force" may also refer to a tactical air force or numbered air force, which is an operational formation either within a national air force or comprising several air components from allied nations. Air forces typically consist of a combination of fighters, bombers, helicopters, transport planes and other aircraft.
Many air forces are also responsible for operations of the military space, intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), and communications equipment. Some air forces may command and control other air defence assets such as anti-aircraft artillery, surface-to-air missiles, or anti-ballistic missile warning networks and defensive systems. Some nations, principally Russia, the former Soviet Union and countries who modelled their militaries along Soviet lines, have an air defence force which is organizationally separate from their air force.

Dover (/ˈdoʊvər/; French: Douvres) is a town and major ferry port in the home county of Kent, in South East England. It faces France across the strait of Dover, the narrowest part of the English Channel, and lies south-east of Canterbury; east of Kent's county town Maidstone; and north-east along the coastline from Dungeness and Hastings. The town is the administrative centre of the Dover District and home of the Dover Calais ferry through the Port of Dover. The surrounding chalk cliffs have become known as the White Cliffs of Dover.
Its strategic position has been evident throughout its history: archaeological finds have revealed that the area has always been a focus for peoples entering and leaving Britain. The name of the town derives from the name of the river that flows through it, the River Dour. The town has been inhabited since the Stone Age according to archaeological finds, and Dover is one of only a few places in Britain – London, Edinburgh, and Cornwall being other examples – to have a corresponding name in the French language, Douvres.
Dover Air Force Base or Dover AFB (IATA: DOV, ICAO: KDOV, FAA LID: DOV) is a United States Air Force base located 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of the city of Dover, Delaware.
Dover AFB is home to the 436th Airlift Wing (436 AW) of the Air Mobility Command (AMC), known as the "Eagle Wing", and the AMC-gained 512th Airlift Wing (512 AW) of the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC), referred to as the "Liberty Wing". It was the only base to solely operate the massive C-5 Galaxy, with two active flying squadrons (the 3rd Airlift Squadron, which now operates the C-17 Globemaster III, and 9th Airlift Squadron) and two Air Force Reserve flying squadrons (the 326th Airlift Squadron and the 709th Airlift Squadron).
Dover AFB is also the home for the largest military mortuary in the Department of Defense, and has been used for processing military personnel killed in both war and peacetime; the remains of those killed overseas are traditionally brought to Dover before being transferred to family. The Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs has also been used to identify remains of civilians in certain exceptional circumstances: in 1978 for the victims of the Jonestown mass murder/suicide, in 1986 for identifying the remains of the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger, and in 2003 for the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia. It was also a major site for identifying the remains of military personnel killed in the 9/11 attacks. During the night of October 28, 2009, before making a decision on the committal of further troops to Afghanistan, President Barack Obama visited the base to receive the bodies of several American soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

This was a college project I did showing what the 92 Mikes(Mortuary Affairs) do at Dover Air Force Base. I am a former 92M, and there's not much on the internet demonstrating what we do. Although this does not cover the field portion, it does show how we care for the remains of fallen soldiers once they arrive at the military mortuary facilities. The video was put together with clips from "Taking Chance," and the song is "Fallen Not Forgotten" by Ray Boltz.

Also, the White House also issued a warning today to Iran, following the test launch of a ballistic missile.
With President Obama and the First Family descending on Chicago on Tuesday, January 10th for the President's Farewell Address at McCormick Place, on Sunday, we were lucky enough to witness 2 U.S. Air Force Air Mobility Command ( USAF AMC ) Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft arrive at Chicago - O'Hare International / Int'l Airport ( IATA : ORD / ICAO : KORD ). Based on the radar tracking data, it appears that both departed from Joint Base Andrews in Prince George's County, Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C. Both aircraft, 06-6165 "Spirit of the Constitution" and 06-6166, are based at Dover Air Force Base ( Dover AFB / DOV / KDOV ) in Dover, Delaware. If you're interested in World War 2 and the Air War over Europe, this video shows the Bombers that won the war, (at great cost) and how tough our servicemen were. This museum is free, not crowded on weekdays, full of attentive veterans who will give you a guided tour. I'd have loved it even if I wasn't with my lovely daughter and three of my wonderful grandchildren.
USAF Thunderbirds Aerial Performance 2009 Dover AFB Open House & Airshow Dover AFB, Delaware Sunday June 21, 2009 IN THIS VIDEO, watch as the Thunderbirds fly their aerial performance, switching from their low show to the high show towards the end of the performance, as the clouds gave way to some blue sky over show center. What was interesting in this performance was that by the time their ceremony was over, the six jets were ready to go and the flying took place within five minutes of the ending of the ceremony, due to the jets being parked on the other side of Dover AFB. Like what you've seen? If you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all air...

On Friday August 7, 2009 the Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover AFB received the newest aircraft to their collection, a KC-135E Stratotanker. The Stratotanker was flown in from McGuire AFB and made a flyby over Dover AFB's Runway 19, followed by circling the AMC Museum prior to landing on Runway 1 at Dover. The aircraft's most recent assignment was with the 108th Air Refueling Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, based at McGuire AFB. Following its landing, the KC-135 taxied in front of the museum and received a water cannon salute from the Dover AFB crash rescue. The crew deplaned, and a small ceremony took place. Speaking in the ceremony were Jim Leech - curator of the Air Mobility Command Museum, Senator Tom Carper (D-DE), 436th Airlift Wing Commander Col. Dwight Sones, and the 1...
Everyone's leaving
The house is in mess
You and your magic friend
Chose to confront me folding the air into a dark affair
We need an air force
To gather the pieces, the love and the fear
I made your skin crawl on this night
Oh, my love
Lock up the doors
There's no easing the pain
Losing a life of games
Brought to impostures and comfort in death
You walk alone, my friend
We need an air force
To gather the pieces, the love and the fear
I made your skin crawl on this night
Oh, my love
Take off these sad clothes I need you to feel my despair Breaking the atmosphere
All of your talk of the dead will not stop
Breathe me like toxic love
We need an air force
To empty the streets with their naked machines
You made my skin crawl on this night
Oh, my love
We won't be air borne
Caught with the dust and the salt on the floor
We need an air force in this life
