The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile (French pronunciation: [aʁk də tʁijɔ̃f də letwal], Triumphal Arch of the Star) is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. It stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle (originally named Place de l'Étoile), at the western end of the Champs-Élysées. It should not be confused with a smaller arch, the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, which stands west of the Louvre. The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.
The Arc de Triomphe is the linchpin of the Axe historique (historic axis) – a sequence of monuments and grand thoroughfares on a route which runs from the courtyard of the Louvre to the Grande Arche de la Défense. The monument was designed by Jean Chalgrin in 1806 and its iconographic program pits heroically nude French youths against bearded Germanic warriors in chain mail. It set the tone for public monuments with triumphant patriotic messages.
Paris (UK: /ˈpærɪs/ PARR-iss; US: i/ˈpɛərɪs/ PAIR-iss; French: [paʁi]) is the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the région parisienne, "Paris Region". The City of Paris has an area of 105 km² (41 mi²) and a population of 2,241,346 (2014 estimate) within its administrative borders essentially unchanged since 1860.
Since the 19th century, the built-up area of Paris has grown far beyond its administrative borders; together with its suburbs, the whole agglomeration has a population of 10,550,350 (Jan. 2012 census).Paris' metropolitan area spans most of the Paris region and has a population of 12,341,418 (Jan. 2012 census), or one-fifth of the population of France. The administrative region covers 12,012 km² (4,638 mi²), with approximately 12 million inhabitants as of 2014, and has its own regional council and president.
Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic people called the Parisii, who gave the city its name. By the 12th century, Paris was the largest city in the western world, a prosperous trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe. In the 18th century, it was the centre stage for the French Revolution, and became an important centre of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts, a position it still retains today.

Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle (French: [ʃaʁl də ɡol]; 22 November 1890 – 9 November 1970) was a French general, resistant, writer and statesman. He was the leader of Free France (1940–44) and the head of the Provisional Government of the French Republic (1944–46). In 1958, he founded the Fifth Republic and was elected as the 18th President of France, until his resignation in 1969. He was the dominant figure of France during the Cold War era and his memory continues to influence French politics.
Born in Lille, he graduated from Saint-Cyr in 1912. He was a decorated officer of the First World War, wounded several times and later taken prisoner at Verdun. He tried to escape with a fellow prisoner, but failed several times. After the war ended, he was released. During the interwar period he advocated mobile armoured divisions. At the beginning of the Second World War, he led an armoured division which counterattacked the invading German army, before being appointed to the French Government as Under-Secretary for War. Refusing to accept his government's armistice with Nazi Germany in 1940, de Gaulle exhorted the French population to resist occupation and to continue the fight against Axis powers in his Appeal of 18 June. He led a government in exile and the Free French Forces against the Axis. Despite frosty relations with Britain and especially the United States, he emerged as the undisputed leader of the French resistance. He became Head of the Provisional Government of the French Republic in June 1944, the interim government of France following its Liberation. As early as 1944, de Gaulle introduced a dirigist economic policy, which included substantial state-directed control over a capitalist economy. It contributed to thirty years of unprecedented growth.

I’ve recently moved back to Paris and have been able to rediscover this city. Paris is often represented by monuments, but videos didn’t seem to show the atmosphere, the people. As a city, the pace is varied which I tried to highlight with timelapse and slow motion. It’s a series of moments captured to show what Paris is to me. It's a moment in time. Shot with a canon 7D and 17-55mm lens.

Take a tour of Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. One of the most popular sights in Paris is the gleaming white Arc de Triomphe. This famous monument is much larger than many realize; in 1919, a biplane flew through it. The Arc lies at a convergence of many of the major avenues of Paris. It was commissioned by Napoleon to commemorate those who have fought for France. There are four relief sculptures, one on each "leg" of the Arc, that celebrate France's military. Underneath the Arc is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, laid after World War 1. There is a museum inside, as well as a magnificent view of Paris from the roof.
Paris, the cosmopolitan capital of France, is one of the largest agglomerations in Europe, with 2.2 million people living in the dense, central city and almost 12 million people living in the whole metropolitan area. Located in the north of France on the river Seine, Paris has the reputation of being the most beautiful and romantic of all cities, brimming with historic associations and remaining vastly influential in the realms of culture, art, fashion, food and design. Dubbed the City of Light (la Ville Lumière) and Capital of Fashion, it is home to the world's finest and most luxurious fashion designers and cosmetics, such as Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent, Guerlain, Lancôme, L'Oréal, Clarins, etc. A large part of the city, including the River Seine, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If it's your first time to Paris, you'll probably want to spend some time at the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, and Notre-Dame, but don't miss out on lesser-known jewels like the Musée Rodin, the Musée de l'Orangerie, and the many markets. There's no way you'll get to do it all — museum-touring, shopping, cemetery-perusing, district-exploring, opera-attending — so plan your own itinerary, group sightseeing nearby attractions together and see Paris on your own terms. I highly recommend using Viator to book your tours, excursions and museum passes ahead of time which is what we did, see: https://www.viator.com/raf/ME3I9ONO1 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Personal Branding Strategies | Real Talk with Carlos Gil Episode 3" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5m4xPhnIxM -~-~~-~~~-...

On the banks of the river Seine in northern France, Paris attracts 42 million visitors a year, making it the most visited city in the world. Beginning at the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Élysées runs along the Historic Axis. This grand avenue is where Parisians come to eat, drink, shop, enjoy the theater and celebrate life. It merges into the largest square in Paris, the Place de la Concorde. A short stroll away is the world's most visited museum, the Musée du Louvre, and modern art at the Centre Pompidou. The neighborhood of Montmartre, with its winding streets, was once home to Picasso, Dali and Van Gogh There's no more famous Parisian icon than the Eiffel Tower, which can be seen from all over the city. Blink and you may miss something, but that's kind of what it was like being there too. It was a very efficient trip. 7/7: SFO --> ORD Our original itinerary did not include Chicago. There was a crash at SFO the day before we left, so our flight was delayed at origin and we missed our connection from ORD. 7/7 - 7/8: Chicago, ORD --> AMS The next direct flight from O'Hare to Schiphol (Amsterdam) was a full 24 hours later, so we decided to make the best of it by exploring the cultural splendors of Chicago. In the morning, we took the 'L' downtown to the Chicago Art Institute. Sooo much famous stuff there. On our way back, w...
