Che is a two-part 2008 biopic about Argentine Marxist revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Benicio del Toro.
Rather than follow a standard chronological order, the films offer an oblique series of interspersed moments along the overall timeline. Part One is entitled The Argentine and focuses on the Cuban Revolution from the landing of Fidel Castro, Guevara, and other revolutionaries in Cuba to their successful toppling of Fulgencio Batista's dictatorship two years later.
Part Two is entitled Guerrilla and focuses on Guevara's attempt to bring revolution to Bolivia and his demise. Both parts are shot in a cinéma vérité style, but each has different approaches to linear narrative, camerawork, and the visual look.

Ernesto "Che" Guevara (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈtʃe ɣeˈβaɾa]; June 14, 1928 – October 9, 1967), commonly known as el Che or simply Che, was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, guerrilla leader, diplomat, and military theorist. A major figure of the Cuban Revolution, his stylized visage has become a ubiquitous countercultural symbol of rebellion and global insignia in popular culture.
As a young medical student, Guevara traveled throughout South America and was radicalized by the poverty, hunger, and disease he witnessed. His burgeoning desire to help overturn what he saw as the capitalist exploitation of Latin America by the United States prompted his involvement in Guatemala's social reforms under President Jacobo Árbenz, whose eventual CIA-assisted overthrow at the behest of the United Fruit Company solidified Guevara's political ideology. Later, in Mexico City, he met Raúl and Fidel Castro, joined their 26th of July Movement, and sailed to Cuba aboard the yacht Granma, with the intention of overthrowing U.S.-backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. Guevara soon rose to prominence among the insurgents, was promoted to second-in-command, and played a pivotal role in the victorious two-year guerrilla campaign that deposed the Batista regime.

Patricia Conde: Mexican photography has great recognition in the world, and here I brought a history of techniques and the best of the best that I have. And I decided to bring these unique pieces and start from this, to the newest, to the more contemporary [art]. I started with only the mid-career artists, who never had a gallery that represented them, but slowly I have moved towards archives because they look for me and I have access to these archives and also to the most contemporary young proposals.
I have Héctor García, Rodrigo Moya, who had the opportunity to shoot Che [Guevara]. [Che] was available for only 20 minutes and [at that time] there were only rolls of 24 frames, so [Moya] only had the chance of taking 24 shots. This is one of them. I have, of course, Graciela de Iturbide, Francisco Mata, who is a great and recognized artist in our country, and I have [Enrique] Metinides. He started in the press very, very young, at the age of 9 – 10 years-old, and these are the first photographs he took. I brought this beautiful mosaic, which are unique pieces too.
Kati Horna, she was at Jeu de Paume and the Museo Amparo, and she is going to the Reina Sofia, and [other] important museums all over the world. Carlos Jurado who is having a [retrospective] in Centro de la Imagen very soon, and Manual Ramos, who was working with the revolution during the very first decade of the 20th century.
I am the only gallery specialized in photography, and I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to meet wonderful people who have archives, so they look for me to carry them to some places like [AIPAD] or Paris Photo, or places like that in which they can be seen and known, so I am starting to build some names. These names are very important in Mexico: for the professors, for people who know, but maybe they are not known as well. That is why I bring them.
Patricia Conde Galeria is the only gallery in Mexico that specializes in photography and represents primarily Mexican mid career and emerging photographers.

Pour cette édition 2015, les rencontres de la photographie d’Arles proposent du 6 juillet au 20 septembre de repenser la photographie comme un art qui constamment puise autour de lui, devenant une pratique d’une richesse infinie.
Musique, édition, internet, théâtre : autant de pistes que la photographie empreinte pour être tour à tour terrain d’expérimentation, œil, capteur de notre société contemporaine.
Toutes ces pratiques sont présentées jouant ensemble au sein des différents lieux de la ville, du centre historique aux bâtiments plus modernes.
Cette édition 2015, sous une nouvelle direction et une nouvelle présidence, fait de la photographie un vecteur de décloisonnement des pratiques artistiques, tout ceci au nom de l’amour de l’image visuelle.

TOTAL RECORDS
La musique est mise à l’honneur dans l’atelier des forges avec une sélection de disques vinyles qui part leur pochette ont marqué l’histoire de la photographie. C’est en déambulant dans cet espace que l’on perçoit l’importance visuelle du vinyle. Ces trente centimètres de coté semblent offrir une infinité de possibilités pour le photographe découpant, retouchant, collant des éléments entre eux.

Thierry Bouët part en expédition dans le monde du net afin de récolter les objets vendus sur le site internet Le Bon Coin. Il prend contact avec les différent vendeurs et de cette relation née une collaboration originale. La Grande Halle pare donc ses murs de ces symboles communautaires contemporains qui évoquent un nouveau type de relation entre les hommes.

C’est dans l’Eglise des Frères-Prêcheurs que la musique de Mathieu Chedid se met à résonner avec les images vives en couleur et en esprit de Martin Parr. La bande-son réalisée par Mathieu Chedid nourrit l’oreille du spectateur tandis que les photographies de Martin Parr tantôt agrandies et projetées assouvissent son œil. C’est un doux mélange qui s’opère entre la poésie des mots de Mathieu Chedid et l’humour sans faille des personnages et des situations capturés par Martin Parr.
Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich : hommage aux Maîtres de la photographie
Sandro Miller rend un hommage aux grands photographes qui l’on inspiré tandis que John Malkovich montre ici sa capacité à se donner corps et âme aux divers rôles que le photographe lui donne allant de Che Guevara à Andy Warhol. Les deux artistes et amis se jouent des personnages qui ont fait l’histoire le temps d’un cliché. Une très belle performance à découvrir dans l’Abbaye de Momtmajour.

STEPHEN SHORE
Dans l’espace Van Gogh c’est une relecture de l’histoire de la photographie qui se joue au travers d’une rétrospective consacrée au photographe Américain, Stephen Shore. Il s’agit de montrer à quel point un grand maitre de la photographie peut toujours être étonnant. C’est grâce à la mise en avant de certaines de ces séries oubliées, telle Uncommon Places, que l’on réévalue la photographie contemporaine.
IMPONDERABLE
L’exposition impondérable est un essai d’estimation de l’incalculable : les croyances. C’est au travers de cette exposition très personnelle que Tony Oursler présente un ouvrage présentant les archives familiales qu’il a lui-même collectée constituée d’objets matériels et immatériels. Le film en 4D retrace, lui, le fonctionnement conflictuel des croyances.

du 6-11 juillet
Durant 6 jours au magasin électrique, est menée une réflexion sur la pratique de l’édition, de plus en plus mise en avant par les artistes et les photographes.
Ces 6 jours permettent de montrer qu’au travers du livre, la photographie peut atteindre l’apogée de son épanouissement, de sa richesse. La question est de savoir si le livre n’est finalement pas malgré ses délimitations, son nombre de pages, son cadrage, un lieu de grande liberté pour la photographie.

Dans l’espace Van Gogh c’est une relecture de l’histoire de la photographie qui se joue au travers d’une rétrospective consacrée au photographe Américain, Stephen Shore. Il s’agit de montrer à quel point un grand maitre de la photographie peut toujours être étonnant. C’est grâce à la mise en avant de certaines de ces séries oubliées, telle Uncommon Places, que l’on réévalue la photographie contemporaine.
IMPONDERABLE
L’exposition impondérable est un essai d’estimation de l’incalculable : les croyances. C’est au travers de cette exposition très personnelle que Tony Oursler présente un ouvrage présentant les archives familiales qu’il a lui-même collectée constituée d’objets matériels et immatériels. Le film en 4D retrace, lui, le fonctionnement conflictuel des croyances.

After several years working in the field of radio broadcasting, and some videos made by me with footage from movies and third parties, I decided to use a module called Principles of Video Production to produce a mini documentary. My previous experience, the lectures, and practical sessions have given me the ground from where to start, and how to approach a task like this. In the documentary, I have used my own video camera, a Panasonic MiniDV NV-EX3, and all the footage has been shot by me in a trip I did to Cuba.
All this footage was shot without the intention of being edited eventually. The idea was born after viewing some videotapes from my trips, and then selecting this little interview to the keeper of the statue of Maximo Gomez, in La Havana, Cuba. Using editing techniques, retouching, and post-production, I tried to make this mini documentary as appealing as possible for the viewer.
Right at the end of the interview, something unexpected happened. The keeper changed the subject completely. Suddenly he started talking about Che Guevara, and how he and his troops took a fortress called El Morro by force. You can feel the passion he puts in the story, and I came up with the idea of supporting that moment with some footage of that very important event in the Cuban Revolution.

The edition is a massive composition of both the most powerful rushes of the road-trip and some audio narratives, famous south-american leaders and our interviewees, that inspired us all along our 25 000 kms.
