Start Again

"Start Again" is the second solo single from Australian singer Conrad Sewell. The song is co-written by Sewell and Jamie Hartman. The song laments the loss of a lover and the fervent hope to get back off to a fresh start. It was released in the United States and Australia on March 10.

The song was almost given to Kylie Minogue but Sewell decided "it didn't sound like a Kylie song" and forged ahead with his own version of the composition.

In an interview on Joy 94.9, Sewell said he recorded the track in one take and was driven by "pure emotion" that just "came easily". Sewell said, "I need to be singing soulful music like this!"

Promotion

On March 11, Sewell performed the song live on The Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda and Elvis Duran named him the show's artist of the month. His song was also featured on a preview of the Australian TV show Home and Away.

Conrad Sewell

Conrad Ignatius Mario Maximilian Sewell (born 31 March 1988) is an Australian singer and songwriter from Brisbane, Australia who attended St. Laurence's College from 1998 to 2005. Sewell is best known for his vocals on Kygo's single "Firestone" and his number-one single "Start Again". At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015, he won Song of the Year for "Start Again" and it was nominated in two other categories: Breakthrough Artist and Best Pop Release.

Career

Early career

Growing up in Brisbane, Sewell started pursuing a music career from a young age, sending around demos since he was 8 years old. Sewell is the brother of singer Grace, who is best known for her 2015 cover of "You Don't Own Me".

In 2004, Sewell auditioned for season 2 of Australian Idol, but did not pass the audition stage. He later tried his luck with short-lived rock band Sons of Midnight.

He spent years recording songs in garages and working to save money to move to the United Kingdom where pop music was more accepted. At the age of 18, Sewell moved to the U.K. to record a demo.

Ryan Dolan

Ryan Dolan (born 22 July 1985) is an pop singer from Strabane in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He is known for representing Ireland in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest with "Only Love Survives".

Career

2013-present: Eurovision Song Contest and Frequency

His song "Only Love Survives" won Ireland's Eurosong 2013 song contest, and Dolan went on to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden. He performed the song in the first semi-final at Malmö Arena on 14 May 2013, and qualified for the final after finishing in the top ten. In the final, held on 18 May 2013, Dolan finished last in the final, receiving only five points from three different countries. He released his debut album Frequency on 13 May 2013. In the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, he was one of the five members of the Irish jury.

Personal life

During an interview on RTE Radio 1 in February 2014, Dolan came out as gay. He said, "In school I was confused about who I was, and it was really hard for me growing up because of that. It was hard to deal with because I knew that I was gay, but I couldn't get the courage to talk to someone about it".
