SAS or Sas may refer to:
The Special Air Service (SAS) is a special forces unit of the British Army. The SAS was founded in 1941 as a regiment, and later reconstituted as a corps in 1950. This special forces unit undertakes a number of roles including covert reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, direct action, hostage rescue and human intelligence gathering.
The corps presently comprises 22 Special Air Service Regiment, the regular component, under the operational command of United Kingdom Special Forces, and 21 (Artists) Special Air Service Regiment (Reserve) and 23 Special Air Service Regiment (Reserve), which are reserve units under the operational command of 1st Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Brigade.
The Special Air Service traces its origins to 1941 and the Second World War, and was reformed as part of the Territorial Army in 1947, named the 21st Special Air Service Regiment (Artists Rifles). 22 Special Air Service Regiment, part of the regular army, later gained fame and recognition worldwide after successfully assaulting the Iranian Embassy in London and rescuing hostages during the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege, lifting the regiment from obscurity outside the military establishment.
Air service may refer to:
The Special Air Service Regiment, officially abbreviated SASR though commonly known as the SAS, is an elitespecial operations force of the Australian Army. Formed in 1957, it was originally modelled on the British SAS sharing the motto, "Who Dares Wins", and draws on the experiences of Australian Services Reconnaissance Department, independent companies, Coastwatchers and M and Z Special Units during World War II. Based at Campbell Barracks, in Swanbourne, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, the regiment is a direct command unit of the Special Operations Command. It has been involved in operations in Borneo during the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation, the Vietnam War, Somalia, Kuwait, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as many other peacekeeping missions. It also provides a counter-terrorist capability, and has been involved in a number of domestic security operations.
A direct command unit of Special Operations Command, the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) is a special forces unit of the Australian Army and "is tasked to provide special-operations capabilities in support of the Australian Defence Force. This includes providing unique capabilities to support sensitive strategic operations, special recovery operations, advisory and training assistance, special reconnaissance, precision strike and direct action". The SASR is primarily structured to conduct covert long-range reconnaissance and surveillance in small teams in enemy-controlled territory, while commando units are utilised to conduct raids in larger groups. In addition to warfighting during conventional conflicts, the regiment is also tasked with maintaining a specialist counter-terrorist capability. Other capabilities include training local or indigenous forces, recovery of Australian citizens and humanitarian assistance. The SASR is also trained in counter-insurgency operations.
Who Dares, Wins (Latin: Qui audet adipiscitur; French: Qui ose gagne; Italian: Chi osa vince; Portuguese: Quem se atreve, ganha; German: Wer wagt, gewinnt) is a motto made popular by the British Special Air Service. It is normally credited to the founder of the SAS, David Stirling. Among the SAS themselves it is sometimes humorously corrupted to "Who cares [who] wins?". May have a much earlier attribution from a medieval Arabic source recently translated:
The catchphrase "He Who Dares, Wins" was commonly used by Del Boy in British sitcom Only Fools and Horses.
The motto has been used by twelve elite special forces units around the world that in some way have historical ties to the British SAS.
An early statement of the idea is 'τοῖς τολμῶσιν ἡ τύχη ξύμφορος' ("fortune favours the bold") from the Ancient Greek soldier and historian Thucydides.

The Special Air Service is the world's most famous combat unit, with the motto 'Who Dares Wins', but the story of how it came into existence has been, until now, a closely guarded secret. For the first time, the SAS has agreed to open up its archive and allow Ben Macintyre to reveal the true story of their formation during the darkest days of World War Two. With unprecedented access to the SAS secret files, unseen footage and exclusive interviews with its founder members, this series tells the remarkable story behind an extraordinary fighting force. Episode one tells the story of the founding of the SAS in the heat of the north African desert in 1941. Babycakes, your in a foreign land
Uncle Sam does the best he can
You're in the army now
Oh-oh, you're in the army, now
Now you remember what the draftman said
Nothing to do all day but stay in bed
You're in the army now
Oh-oh, you're in the army, now
Verse 1
Mega:
This is thuggery, yo I'm thuggin', see
Nurses said I need 3 months of recovery
(That's what they said)
They was loving me, plus they was rubbing me
Shit, I'll shoot a sucker free just to show 'em I'm
sucker-free
Slewin' the booth, pursuin' the truth
You're in the army now, I'm the one recruitin' the
troops
So yeah (yeah)
This is a leadership, hop on this leader ship
But you ain't leading shit
No, you ain't a leader prick
I been had metal on my hip
Way before I got into beef and got metal in my hip
Ah, calm you crooks, you gwaan and shook
You don't wanna go to war like Sadaam and Bush, you're
puss
Yo my weapon long (Brraat)
We can get it on (Brraat)
It's some Blitzkreig, Vietnam, Desert Storm
And, and, when you thought I passed away
I'm on the operatin' table for like half a day
See I'm a soldier
Hook
S.A.S.
Loading the Glock
Reload and it's cocked to pop
Whether you know it or not, shit
(You're in the army)
Yo it's war in these little streets
North, south, or west, it feels like the middle east
All the ballin's over
This is a commemoration for my fallen soldiers, yeah
Who Dares Win, so strat me clown
I spray these rounds until you niggaz can't be found
Verse 2
Mayhem:
I remember days I was pitchin' crack, tryna duck
squalie
Now I'm a Diplomat, and a rap artist
Find me where my niggaz at
Turn the block, Barney
And Blood, when them triggers clap, you will not harm
Your boy getting loot for days
I breeze by you, cologne smell like Joop & Haze
Me, Adamu, troops who blaze
Them Rugers, K's
One phonecall, moves is made
Rep 9-Treezy gang, that's a shout to the set
Got clout and bagauettes, I'm about my respect
So, get prepared if you scared
Cuz this shit here make niggaz disappear
It's all timin', rhymin', grindin', shinin'
Dipset bitch, read in between them diamonds
A few O's spare, I move those, yeah
With two guns on me like "Nigga, who goes there"
I'm in the army
Hook
Verse 3
Juelz Santana:
Reportin' to you guys, reportin' to you live (from
where)
From the corner, that's my bitch, I'm on her (Yes)
I hug her, I love her, I trust her with my life
Like a brother, like a mother, like a wife
And nuthin' else
The kid struggled to get to stardom
Now I'm on, it's on, yeah it's big trouble in little
Harlem
Fuck fightin' a war, catch me fightin' on tour
Least I know who I'm fightin', what I'm fightin' him
They say we shouldn't fight for colors on a rag
Well, we shouldn't, like we shouldn't fight for colors
on a flag
America, open your eyes to the facts
There's a war goin' on and it's not in Iraq
Uh-uh, Bush smerkin' (yup)
The hood's hurtin' (yup)
It's a drought, nobody getting good work in (yup)
Fiends is cranky, I'm seeing lately
Hustlers, plottin', watchin' and seeming shaky
In the army
