A Bruce Weber photo is as distinctive as it is ordinary, as familiar as it is mysterious, as nostalgic as it is modern. We look at six things you didn’t know about Bruce Weber.
Once described by Interview magazine as presenting “an idealised version of America, one that’s both tantalising close and impossibly romantic” Weber has created a new standard for photography. His diverse body of work spanning five decades ranges from campaigns for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Abercrombie and Fitch in the 80s and 90s that made him a household name to magazine covers and more. As prolific as he is diverse, Weber has shot everything from travel photography to high fashion shoots for Versace and Louis Vuitton to portraitures of David Bowie, Kate Moss and Jane Goodall.
It was Weber that spearheaded the rise of the image of “all-American” beauty with his campaigns for Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Capturing the zeitgeist of a moment is no easy feat and with his deceptively simple photography Weber transformed both these fashion brands but also tapped into a collective consciousness that demanded or longed for a new standard of beauty and way of exploring sexuality. Weber’s singular vision featuring strapping, athletic often barely dressed, beautiful young men and women, carefree and prosperous appeared everywhere form giant billboards in financial districts of New York to the glossy pages of men’s fashion magazines, fuelled the fantasies of a new generation. Its hard to know whether Weber through some innate sense of the time created these fantasies or if his dreamy look at the gilded and golden American youth merely catered to them in a way that lined up neatly with already existing desires. At any rate, Weber did more to transform the image of Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren than anyone else and along the way, moved countless polo shirts and boxer shorts and changed the idea of male sexuality forever.
Today Weber has over thirty books to his name, including the All American series, many monographs, an ever increasing number of film credits and well over sixty exhibitions globally. Not only can he boast of producing some of the most progressive and controversial campaigns within the fashion industry, but he can also claim that his one of a kind vision of American youth has stood the test of time and has formed the backbone of some of fashion’s most well known brands internationally. As the fashion industry gathers together in London to celebrate at the British Fashion Awards, they will also be gathering to honour Bruce Weber, photographer extraordinaire with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator.

Kate Moss
Kate Moss (born 16 January 1974) is an English model. Born in Croydon, Greater London, she was discovered in 1988 at age 14 by Sarah Doukas, founder of Storm Model Management, at JFK Airport in New York City.
Moss rose to fame in the early 1990s as part of the heroin chic fashion trend. She is known for her waifish figure, and role in size zero fashion. She received an award at the 2013 British Fashion Awards to acknowledge her contribution to fashion over 25 years.
Moss has had her own clothing range and has been involved in musical projects. She has won accolades for modelling. In 2007, TIME named her one of the world's 100 most influential people. She has inspired cultural depictions including a £1.5m ($2.8m) 18 carat gold statue of her, sculpted in 2008 for a British Museum exhibition.
She began dating Jefferson Hack in the early 2000s and they have a daughter, Lila Grace Moss Hack. She later dated musician Pete Doherty. She is married to Jamie Hince, guitarist for the Kills. She received media scrutiny for her party lifestyle and drug use. Drug allegations beginning in late 2005 led to her being dropped from fashion campaigns. She was cleared of charges and resumed modelling. In 2012, she came second on the Forbes top-earning models list, with estimated earnings of $9.2 million in one year.

Calvin Klein
Calvin Klein Inc. is an American fashion house founded by the fashion designer Calvin Klein. The company is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan, New York City and is currently owned by PVH.
History
The early years
In 1968, Klein founded Calvin Klein Limited, a coat shop in the York Hotel in New York City, with $10,000. The first Calvin Klein collection was a line of "youthful, understated coats and dresses" featured at the New York City store, Bonwit Teller.
In September 1969, Klein appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine.
1970s
By 1971, Klein had added sportswear, classic blazers, and lingerie to his women's collection.
In 1973, he received his first Coty American Fashion Critics' Award for his 74-piece womenswear collection - the youngest recipient at that time. Klein won the award again in 1974 and 1975. By 1977, annual revenues had increased to $30 million (equivalent to $117 million in 2016), and Klein had licenses for scarves, shoes, belts, furs, sunglasses, and sheets. Klein and Schwartz were making $4 million each. After the company signed licenses for cosmetics, jeans, and menswear, Klein's annual retail volume was estimated at $100 million (equivalent to $390 million in 2016). In 1978, Klein claimed sales of 200,000 pairs of his famous jeans the first week they were on the market. By 1981, Fortune figured Klein's annual income at $8.5 million a year. In the mid-1970s, he had created a designer-jeans craze by putting his name on the back pocket. Klein's design assistant at the time, Jeffrey Banks, has claimed credit for the logo garments, stating that he had the logo from a press folder silkscreened onto the sleeve of a brown T-shirt as a present for Klein. The gift was assumed by Schwartz to be part of the upcoming line, and similar logo shirts formed the uniform for the front-of-house staff at Klein's next catwalk show, leading to buyer demand.

A Bruce Weber photo is as distinctive as it is ordinary, as familiar as it is mysterious, as nostalgic as it is modern. We look at six things you didn’t know about Bruce Weber.
Once described by Interview magazine as presenting “an idealised version of America, one that’s both tantalising close and impossibly romantic” Weber has created a new standard for photography. His diverse body of work spanning five decades ranges from campaigns for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Abercrombie and Fitch in the 80s and 90s that made him a household name to magazine covers and more. As prolific as he is diverse, Weber has shot everything from travel photography to high fashion shoots for Versace and Louis Vuitton to portraitures of David Bowie, Kate Moss and Jane Goodall.
It was Weber that spearheaded the rise of the image of “all-American” beauty with his campaigns for Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Capturing the zeitgeist of a moment is no easy feat and with his deceptively simple photography Weber transformed both these fashion brands but also tapped into a collective consciousness that demanded or longed for a new standard of beauty and way of exploring sexuality. Weber’s singular vision featuring strapping, athletic often barely dressed, beautiful young men and women, carefree and prosperous appeared everywhere form giant billboards in financial districts of New York to the glossy pages of men’s fashion magazines, fuelled the fantasies of a new generation. Its hard to know whether Weber through some innate sense of the time created these fantasies or if his dreamy look at the gilded and golden American youth merely catered to them in a way that lined up neatly with already existing desires. At any rate, Weber did more to transform the image of Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren than anyone else and along the way, moved countless polo shirts and boxer shorts and changed the idea of male sexuality forever.
Today Weber has over thirty books to his name, including the All American series, many monographs, an ever increasing number of film credits and well over sixty exhibitions globally. Not only can he boast of producing some of the most progressive and controversial campaigns within the fashion industry, but he can also claim that his one of a kind vision of American youth has stood the test of time and has formed the backbone of some of fashion’s most well known brands internationally. As the fashion industry gathers together in London to celebrate at the British Fashion Awards, they will also be gathering to honour Bruce Weber, photographer extraordinaire with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator.

A Bruce Weber photo is as distinctive as it is ordinary, as familiar as it is mysterious, as nostalgic as it is modern. We look at six things you didn’t know about Bruce Weber.
Once described by Interview magazine as presenting “an idealised version of America, one that’s both tantalising close and impossibly romantic” Weber has created a new standard for photography. His diverse body of work spanning five decades ranges from campaigns for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Abercrombie and Fitch in the 80s and 90s that made him a household name to magazine covers and more. As prolific as he is diverse, Weber has shot everything from travel photography to high fashion shoots for Versace and Louis Vuitton to portraitures of David Bowie, Kate Moss and Jane Goodall.
It was Weber that spearheaded the rise of the image of “all-American” beauty with his campaigns for Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Capturing the zeitgeist of a moment is no easy feat and with his deceptively simple photography Weber transformed both these fashion brands but also tapped into a collective consciousness that demanded or longed for a new standard of beauty and way of exploring sexuality. Weber’s singular vision featuring strapping, athletic often barely dressed, beautiful young men and women, carefree and prosperous appeared everywhere form giant billboards in financial districts of New York to the glossy pages of men’s fashion magazines, fuelled the fantasies of a new generation. Its hard to know whether Weber through some innate sense of the time created these fantasies or if his dreamy look at the gilded and golden American youth merely catered to them in a way that lined up neatly with already existing desires. At any rate, Weber did more to transform the image of Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren than anyone else and along the way, moved countless polo shirts and boxer shorts and changed the idea of male sexuality forever.
Today Weber has over thirty books to his name, including the All American series, many monographs, an ever increasing number of film credits and well over sixty exhibitions globally. Not only can he boast of producing some of the most progressive and controversial campaigns within the fashion industry, but he can also claim that his one of a kind vision of American youth has stood the test of time and has formed the backbone of some of fashion’s most well known brands internationally. As the fashion industry gathers together in London to celebrate at the British Fashion Awards, they will also be gathering to honour Bruce Weber, photographer extraordinaire with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator.
