Le Lac d'Annecy, à 30 min de l'aéroport de Genève, a gagné sa renommée internationale grâce aux efforts fournis dès les années 60 par les communes riveraines du lac pour le sauver d'une pollution galopante.

Annecy
Annecy (French pronunciation: [an.si]; Arpitan: Èneci or Ènneci) is the greatest city of Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. It lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, 35 kilometers (22 mi) south of Geneva.
Nicknamed Pearl of French Alps in Raoul Blanchard's monography describing its location between lake and mountains, the city controls the northern entrance to the lake gorge. Due to the lack of available land, its resident population stagnates with 52 029 inhabitants intramural in 2013. However, its urban area, with 221 000 inhabitants, is on the 5th regional position, just behind Geneva-Annemasse urban area, which counts 292 000 inhabitants, in the northern department.
Switching from counts of Geneva's dwelling in the 13th century, to counts of Savoy's in the 14th century, the city became the capital of the Savoy province in 1434 during the prerogative of Genevois-Nemours until 1659. Its role increased in 1536, during the Calvinist Reformation of Geneva, while the bishop took refuge in Annecy. St Francis de Sales gave Annecy its role of advanced citadel of the Catholic Counter-Reformation. The annexation of Savoy will link the city to France in 1860.

Lake Annecy
Lake Annecy (French: Lac d'Annecy) is a perialpine lake in Haute-Savoie in France.
It is the third largest lake in France, after the Lac du Bourget and Lac de Grand-Lieu, if the French part of Lake Geneva (which is also partly in Switzerland) is excluded. It is known as "Europe's cleanest lake" because of strict environmental regulations introduced in the 1960s. It is a popular tourist destination known for its swimming and water sports.
The lake was formed about 18,000 years ago, at the time the large alpine glaciers melted. It is fed by many small rivers from the surrounding mountains (Ire, Eau morte, Laudon, Bornette and Biolon), and from a powerful underwater source, the Boubioz, which enters at 82 m depth.
Towns and villages around the lake
A cycle path goes partially around Lake Annecy past Sevrier and St Jorioz to Ugine. It has an aim to reach Albertville. The lake is around 14 km long.

Le Lac d'Annecy, à 30 min de l'aéroport de Genève, a gagné sa renommée internationale grâce aux efforts fournis dès les années 60 par les communes riveraines du lac pour le sauver d'une pollution galopante. Il attire depuis de nombreux visiteurs grâce à la qualité de l'environnement mais aussi pour la découverte du charme de la vieille ville d'Annecy et de son patrimoine culturel (l'Agglomération d'Annecy a obtenu en 2003 le label reconnu de Villes et Pays d'Art et d'Histoire) et l'attrait des nombreux villages pittoresques du tour du lac.
