The Waterboys are a band formed in 1983 by Mike Scott. The band's membership, past and present, has been composed mainly of musicians from Scotland, Ireland and England, with Edinburgh, London, Dublin, Spiddal, New York and Findhorn serving as homes for the group. They have explored a number of different styles, but their music is a mix of Celtic folk music with rock and roll. They dissolved in 1993 when Scott departed to pursue a solo career. They reformed in 2000, and continue to release albums and tour worldwide. Scott emphasises a continuity between The Waterboys and his solo work, saying that "To me there's no difference between Mike Scott and the Waterboys; they both mean the same thing. They mean myself and whoever are my current travelling musical companions."
The early Waterboys sound was dubbed "The Big Music" after a song on their second album, A Pagan Place. This style was described by Scott as "a metaphor for seeing God's signature in the world." It either influenced or was used to describe a number of other bands, including U2,Simple Minds, In Tua Nua, Big Country and the Hothouse Flowers In the late 1980s the band became significantly more folk influenced. The Waterboys eventually returned to rock and roll, and have released both rock and folk albums since reforming. Their songs, largely written by Scott, often contain literary references and are frequently concerned with spirituality. Both the group and its members' solo careers have received much praise from both rock and folk music critics, but The Waterboys as a band has never received the commercial success that some of its members have had independently.
"Because the Night" is a song written by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith that was first released in 1978 as a single off the Patti Smith Group album Easter. It rose to #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as #5 in the United Kingdom, and helped propel sales of Easter to mainstream success—even as Smith was deciding to retire from a life of constant touring. In 1987, the song was ranked #116 on NME magazine's list of "The Top 150 Singles of All Time". It remains one of the best known songs of Smith's catalog.
The song was originally recorded by Bruce Springsteen during sessions for his Darkness on the Edge of Town album. He was not satisfied with it and later declared he already knew he wasn't going to finish it since it was "a[nother] love song"; the Patti Smith Group was working on Easter in the studio next door, with engineer/producer Jimmy Iovine working on both albums. Iovine gave Smith a tape of the song, she recast it, only retaining the chorus "Because the night belongs to lovers", and it was included on Easter, becoming the first single released from that album. Though it was never released on any of Springsteen's studio albums, in concert beginning with his Darkness Tour Springsteen would often perform the song with his own lyrics. The song was first performed live at a Patti Smith concert at CBGB's in New York City on December 30, 1977, with Springsteen joining on vocals and guitar. The only two commercially released recordings of a Springsteen version of the song were in the 1986 box set Live/1975–85, where Smith was listed as co-writer; and the 2010 compilation album The Promise (using the original recording from the Darkness on the Edge of Town sessions, but using Smith's lyrics).
Providence is the capital and most populous city in Rhode Island. Founded in 1636, it is one of the oldest cities in the United States. It is located in Providence County, and is the third-largest city in the New England region after Boston and Worcester. Providence has a city population of 179,154 and is part of the 38th-largest metropolitan population in the country, with an estimated population of 1,604,291, exceeding that of Rhode Island by about 60%, as it extends into southern Massachusetts. This can be considered in turn to be part of the Greater Boston commuting area, which contains 7.6 million people. The city is situated at the mouth of the Providence River, at the head of Narragansett Bay.
Providence was founded by Roger Williams, a religious exile from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He named the area in honor of "God's merciful Providence", which he believed was responsible for revealing such a haven for him and his followers to settle. After becoming one of the first cities in the country to industrialize, Providence became noted for its jewelry and silverware industry. Today, the city of Providence is home to eight hospitals and seven institutions of higher learning, which has shifted the city's economy into service industries, though it still retains significant manufacturing activity.
Lapush is an American rock band, formed in 2002 in St. Louis, Missouri.
After releasing several singles and one EP independently, Lapush signed to New York-based label, 456 (Universal Music Group) in 2005. The label is co-owned by Carson Daly and Jonathan Rifkind.
Their music features a melding of American and European influences.
The band's discography consists of two studio albums, one EP and 10 singles. Lapush made their network television debut on Last Call with Carson Daly on NBC (December 2005) performing two songs; Quit You Now and Tout Le Monde. Their debut album, Someplace Closer To Here, reached No. 15 on the Alternative/Specialty Albums Chart. The second single from that record, Aurora, reached No. 15 on the Alternative/Specialty Singles Chart and also appeared in the television show Moonlight on CBS.
Lapush formed in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2002 by brothers Thom Donovan and Stephen Donovan. The original lineup consisted of: Thom Donovan (guitar and vocals), Stephen Donovan (guitar and vocals), Kevin Bachmann (bass), Casey Bazzell (keyboards and vocals) and Brett Voelker (drums). The band was named after La Push, Washington; a small community in Washington state. The name La Push is an infusion of the French la bouche, meaning "mouth", into Chinook Jargon. It describes the town's location at the mouth of the river. Instead of separating 'La Push', the band would simply combine the two into one word, 'Lapush'.

The Whole of the Moon ----------------------- I pictured a rainbow You held in your hands I had flashes But you saw then plan I wondered out in the world for years While you just stayed in your room I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon! You were there at the turnstiles With the wind at your heels You stretched for the stars And you know how it feels To reach too high Too far Too soon You saw the whole of the moon! I was grounded While you filled the skies I was dumbfounded by truths You cut through lies I saw the rain-dirty valley You saw brigadoon I saw the crescent You saw the whole of the moon! MIKE SCOTT is the Scottish bandleader of the legendary group The Waterboys. The band has just released its first new album in half a decade 'An Appointment With Mr. Yeats' which takes classic poems of the classic Irish poet W.B. Yeats and puts them in modern musical settings. The new album connects with the power and immediacy of Waterboy's classics like This Is the Sea (1985) and Fisherman's Blues (1988), unfolding with colorful vividness that has characterized Scott's single-minded body of work during the course of the last three decades. Scott has been on quite a creative roll in recent years, having authored an enthusiastically received memoir, Adventures of a Waterboy, while the new album is the result of two decades of dedication and a lifelong fascination with Yeats' poetry.

What do you say to the child
Whose god is in the T.V.?
And what do you say to the man
Who blames the world on T.V.?
They don't even know how to sing my song
But they won't even try it
With me, with me, with me
Who is standing over playing like
The teacher
Harnessing the learned
Who try but can't leave her
I want to beg the liars to lay down
Their sirens
That play like the angels
To my deep desire
Free my son
Let him walk right through the rain
Free my son
Make him waterboy
Free my son
There he stands down on the shore
Free my son
What do you say to the man
Who treats her like a mother?
And what do you say to the man
Who treats him like a father?
"Come and see my heart. Come inside
And learn"?
Come and see my soul, it's like yours,
I say it's just like yours"?
Who is making over
Idolizing princes banishing the dreamers with
Barbed-wire fences
And telling all the children who run to
Her feet
That they have no vision
And love's all diseased
