Microsoft Surface Pro 5 launch event kicks off at 4.30PM IST today; here’s how to follow it live

Microsoft is all geared up to launch a new product at its event in China today. The product launch follows the company’s recently concluded annual developer conference where it detailed its vision for the near future. It is expected that the company will announce the Surface Pro 5 at the event. The event kick starts at 4AM PT (4.30PM IST). It is to be noted that Microsoft will not be live streaming the event but only live blogging. If you want to closely follow the launch event, you can check the company’s blog here ,and also scout its social media handles for the latest update.

Thanks to Surface chief Panos Panay, the speculations ended yesterday when he posted an image of four Surface keyboards on Instagram, along with a caption that read “30 hours to go.” The next iteration of Microsoft’s premium line of hybrid device is evidently going to run Windows 10 and if past leaks are to be believed, the successor to the Surface Pro 4 might be simply called ‘Surface Pro’, without any number to signify the generation.

Serial leakster, Evan Blass revealed images of the purported laptop and based on those, there is not going to be any change to the design language if compared to the Surface Pro 4 that was launched two years ago. Only tweaks are said to be internal as Microsoft aims to take on Apple. ALSO READ: Microsoft Surface Pro 5 might launch with Intel’s seventh-generation ‘Kaby Lake’ processors: Report

Recently, Panay hinted that the company wasn’t planning on a Surface Pro 5 until there was any meaningful change to warrant a new product launch. He further said that the company did not want to launch a new product with just upgraded specifications and label it the next-generation Surface Pro.

Although today’s event is unlikely to be Surface Pro 5-centric, if the previous reports are anything to go by, the newer device would not boast dramatic changes other than housing Intel’s latest Kaby Lake processor. Microsoft’s Paul Thurrott revealed in his April tweet that the Surface Pro 5 will not change the Surface Connect power connector and would only include the new Intel processor.
