907 Baths

Long, indulgent bubble baths can be one of life’s great indulgences, and if you are planning a bathroom makeover then a new bath can transform the atmosphere and appearance of your bathroom. The size and style of your bathroom will help you make your choice. For smaller bathrooms, corner baths or compact baths can be a great space-saving option, or shower baths can be a convenient compromise if you haven’t got space for both a bath and a shower. Opting for a bath that is part of a bathroom suite is a great idea for a neat, uniform look to your bathroom, and these days bathroom suites are available in almost every style and colour. If you have the room and if baths are an important part of your downtime, then freestanding baths, whether roll top, slipper or claw foot, are the ultimate luxurious investment. If you want your bath to make a statement as the focal point of your bathroom (or even your bedroom), then opt for a bath in a striking material: cast iron baths, stone baths and copper baths could be the stunning centrepiece you’re looking for. How big should my bath be?

Bath tubs vary in size and are often standardised in bathroom suites for smaller British bathrooms. They are typically available in the following sizes:
standard: 1700mm x 700mm and 1700mm x 750mm
corner: 1400mm x 1400mm
large: 1800mm x 800mm or 900m-1200mm x 1000mm
While floor space is an essential consideration, the size of your bath also needs to be able to accommodate the people in it! Baths made for two are supremely indulgent; double-ended baths with taps and overflow in the middle offer comfort for shared bathing than single-ended baths, or for extra relaxation and a spa-like feel you might consider roomy whirlpool baths.

Should I have a shower bath?

Shower baths offer the best of both worlds for compact bathrooms. Rectangular baths can be easily fitted with showers and flat shower screens, or for a more roomy shower you may prefer specially designed shower baths. For this option, you can choose between the contemporary lines of an L-shaped bath or the soft curves of a P-shaped bath, both of which are extra spacious (and kind on your elbows).

What material should I choose for my bath?

Acrylic baths are a popular choice for good reason - they come in many designs, are lightweight and retain heat (so no more cold backs when you laze in your tub). Fibreglass- or resin-reinforced acrylic baths are long-lasting and hardwearing option, making them comparable to steel baths at a lower price point.

Steel baths are every bit as strong as they sound. Made from pressed steel and coated in enamel, these are hard-wearing, resilient and hygienic. Steel is also recyclable, so this makes an eco-friendly choice for the environmentally conscious.

Cast iron baths are a classic choice for lovers of roll top baths. Cast iron baths offer traditional elegance and claw-foot baths can make a stunning statement feature in your bathroom. Cast iron baths can be painted to suit your decor, but they are very heavy so just bear in mind your floor may need extra reinforcement.

Copper baths tend to be lighter than their metal counterparts, and are also available in roll top and clawfoot designs. Their polished copper surface lend character to period and modern bathrooms alike, and heat up quickly and retain warmth for the perfect soak.

Stone resin baths could make the perfect sleek centrepiece for your contemporary bathroom. Warmer to the touch than natural stone, the combination of limestone and resin makes these baths extra durable with superior insulation.
