Tesla is down selling its upcoming Model 3 with an internal comparison tool.

Details of the American electric car maker's upcoming mass-market Model 3 have leaked online with the Tesla Model 3 Owners Club forum publishing what it claims is a comparison chart for dealers to upsell customers into a larger, far more expensive Model S.

The leaked chart shows the Model 3 has a battery range of more than 346km and of a 0-60 miles per hour (0-97km/h) time of 5.6 seconds, which stacks up to previously released information.

Tesla has made a point of trying to make the Model 3 appear to be quite inferior to the Model S by comparing its features to the better equipped, much larger and more expensive Model S.

The Model 3 will only get one smaller, albeit still large 15-inch touchscreen compared to the S' 17-inch touchscreen and digital dashboard and the 3 also misses out on a power tailgate. The 3 will also have far less scope for customisation with only 100 configurations available compared to the more than 1500 for the S.

On top of that, the chart shows the boot space for the 3 is only 396L compared to 850L for the Model S.

While the documents appear to show some plausible information, Tesla may be a bit ambitious with its statement that orders made now will be available by mid-2018, and it may be trying to cool the market for its highly anticipated Model 3.
