Christmas trees are the crowning glory of any Christmas decor. Now available in frosted fir, tinsel gold, pre-lit and even upside down, there’s sure to be a Christmas tree to suit the style of your home or your holiday theme.

What do I look for when shopping for artificial Christmas trees?

Real Christmas trees aren’t easy to come by in Australia and New Zealand, which is just one of the reasons artificial Christmas trees are so popular. These days, artificial trees look like the real deal – even a white Christmas tree can look dipped in snow. They’re also great for allergy sufferers, require little to no care, and will last you years.

Artificial Christmas trees come in an array of styles. If you want a traditional look, don’t go past the ever-popular green Christmas tree. A white Christmas tree, on the other hand, can look sleek and elegant when topped with blue, gold or silver decorations. For convenience, a LED Christmas tree comes pre-lit, so you don’t have to untangle last year’s fairy lights. Little to no room in your home? A small Christmas tree could make the centrepiece of your dining table.

What size Christmas tree is right for me?

Before you purchase a Christmas tree, ensure you have decided where it will go and how much room you want it to take up. A small apartment may only be able to cater to a small Christmas tree – if this is the case for you, consider replacing a vase of flowers with a potted miniature fir tree.

If you want a big tree, leave at least 15 centimetres from the top of the tree to the ceiling. This will allow enough room for a tree topper, too. Also consider the diameter of the space you will be filling, so you don’t end up with a Christmas tree that hugs your walls. A good guide can often be found in the description of artificial Christmas trees – if you’re space is tight, look for keywords like slim or narrow, for example.
