A single-lens reflex camera (SLR) typically uses a mirror and prism system (hence "reflex", from the mirror's reflection) that permits the photographer to view through the lens and see exactly what will be captured, contrary to rangefinder cameras where the image could be significantly different from what will be captured. When the shutter button is pressed the mirror will adjust allowing the light to pass through on to the film, resulting in the image being presented.

A reflex camera is a camera that permits the photographer to view the image that will be seen through the lens, and therefore to see exactly what will be captured, contrary to viewfinder cameras where the image could be significantly different from what will be captured. A single-lens reflex camera typically uses a mirror and prism system (hence "reflex", from the mirror's reflection) to accomplish this. The mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera achieves the same result by providing the photographer with a digitally captured image. The twin-lens reflex camera provides both a viewfinder image and the reflected image from the actual camera lens.

http://theartofphotography.tv http://twitter.com/tedforbes Twin Lens Reflex cameras reached their height of popularity during the 1940s - the 1960s and were quite the camera of choice amongst professionals and serious amateurs. These cameras were used by photographers as diverse as Diane Arbus and David Bailey. The image quality of these cameras is still competitive with modern optics as these cameras can be an excellent value for the money if you don't mind manual operation keeping them maintained. Should you buy a Bridge Camera or a Digital SLR? Is changing from a bridge camera to a DSLR an upgrade - or are they just different? There are arguments for and against both of them and most of it depends on who you are and what you like because all digital cameras take great quality images. I like the compact nature of bridge cameras (and compact cameras for that matter) but personally I find them complicated compared to a DSLR. But that's me! In this video I'm going to have a go with a Canon G10 lent to me by a friend and see how I get on with it compared to my old Nikon D300 DSLR. And don't forget - I'm not into 'tech' - I just want to see how easy it is to get the photo I see in my head out through my arms and into the camera. Mike Browne

A digital single-lens reflex camera (also called a digital SLR or DSLR) is a digital camera combining the optics and the mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor, as opposed to photographic film. The reflex design scheme is the primary difference between a DSLR and other digital cameras. In the reflex design, light travels through the lens, then to a mirror that alternates to send the image to either the viewfinder or the image sensor. The alternative would be to have a viewfinder with its own lens, hence the term "single lens" for this design. By using only one lens, the viewfinder presents an image that will not perceptibly differ from what is captured by the camera's sensor. This video is targeted to blind users. Rollei, Yashica, Mamiya and others made many top-end twin lens reflex (TLR) cameras from the 1930s through the 1980s. For about 20 years in the 1940s and 1950s, Ricoh made a line of TLR cameras called the Diacords. Short for DIA-mond and ***-cord (a suffix used by other TLR makers to indicate trim level), the Diacords were inexpensive but very high-quality cameras. Diaflex may have been a better name had Ricoh kept in line with the trim level designation. With other makes, -cord cameras represented budget or mid-range TLRs. They performed well but lacked some of the features of the high-end -felx cameras. The Diacords had almost or all of the trim assets found on -flex suffix cameras made by other manufacturers, but with a much lower price. The Ricohmatic 225 was the first non-Diacord-na...
