Comparing the Minolta Maxxum 50mm f/1.4 and f/1.7 - Sample Images

In this vlog we compare two affordable, well-built, quality 50mm lenses, the Minolta Maxxum f/1.4 and f/1.7. We mount them on identical Sony A77's so you can see a comparison between the two lenses on the exact same shots and set up. There are additional sample images from both lenses at the end of the video. If you're in the market for a good 50mm lens for the Sony A Mount system, you might want to have a look at both of these excellent choices. The 50mm f/1.7 is priced around $50 USD used, truly a great bargain for a mighty fine lens. And the f/1.4 will set you back around $175-$200 USD. There's not much difference in the quality of the two lenses, they are both outstanding. You will see slightly sharper images from the f/1.4 and it is a little sharper in low light is well. Minolta

Minolta Co., Ltd. was a Japanese worldwide manufacturer of cameras, camera accessories, photocopiers, fax machines, and laser printers. Minolta was founded in Osaka, Japan, in 1928 as Nichi-Doku Shashinki Shōten (日独写真機商店, meaning Japanese-German camera shop). It is perhaps best known for making the first integrated autofocus 35mm SLR camera system. In 1931, the company adopted its current name, an acronym for “Mechanism, Instruments, Optics, and Lenses by Tashima.”

It was not until 1933 that the brand name appeared on a camera, a copy of the Plaubel Makina simply called "Minolta." In 2003, Konica Corporation merged with Minolta to form Konica Minolta.

On January 19, 2006, Konica Minolta announced that it was leaving the camera and photo business and that it would sell a portion of its SLR camera business to Sony as part of its move to pull completely out of the business of selling cameras and photographic film.

We mount them on identical Sony A77's so you can see a comparison between the two lenses on the exact same shots and set up. There are additional sample images from both lenses at the end of the video. If you're in the market for a good 50mm lens for the Sony A Mount system, you might want to have a look at both of these excellent choices. In this vlog we compare two affordable, well-built, quality 50mm lenses, the Minolta Maxxum f/1.4 and f/1.7. We mount them on identical Sony A77's so you can see a comparison between the two lenses on the exact same shots and set up. There are additional sample images from both lenses at the end of the video. If you're in the market for a good 50mm lens for the Sony A Mount system, you might want to have a look at both of these excellent choices. The 50mm f/1.7 is priced around $50 USD used, truly a great bargain for a mighty fine lens. And the f/1.4 will set you back around $175-$200 USD. There's not much difference in the quality of the two lenses, they are both outstanding. You will see slightly sharper images from the f/1.4 and it is a little sharper in low light is well. Well, I don't think there is a right answer to this question but there is a camera I tend to recommend more often than others as an all around good starter camera for those looking to try out analogue film. It's the Minolta X-700. For the money I think it is a great bargain and in this video I show off my copy of the Minolta X-700, talk about why I like it, and run through a quick slideshow of some of my images made with the Minolta X-700.
