Syria (i/ˈsɪ.rɪə/; Arabic: سوريا or سورية, Sūriyā or Sūrīyah), officially the Syrian Arab Republic, is a country in Western Asia. De jure Syrian territory borders Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest, but the government's control now extends to approximately 30–40% of the de jure state area and less than 60% of the population.
A country of fertile plains, high mountains, and deserts, Syria is home to diverse ethnic and religious groups, including Syrian Arabs, Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds, Circassians,Mandeans and Turks. Religious groups include Sunnis, Christians, Alawites, Druze, Mandeans, Shiites, Salafis, and Yazidis. Sunni Arabs make up the largest population group in Syria.
In English, the name "Syria" was formerly synonymous with the Levant (known in Arabic as al-Sham), while the modern state encompasses the sites of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the 3rd millennium BC. Its capital Damascus is among the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. In the Islamic era, Damascus was the seat of the Umayyad Caliphate and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Sultanate in Egypt.
Radio is the use of radio waves is to carry information, such as sound, by systematically modulating some property of electromagnetic energy waves transmitted through space, such as their amplitude, frequency, phase, or pulse width. When radio waves strike an electrical conductor, the oscillating fields induce an alternating current in the conductor. The information in the waves can be extracted and transformed back into its original form.
Radio systems need a transmitter to modulate (change) some property of the energy produced to impress a signal on it, for example using amplitude modulation or angle modulation (which can be frequency modulation or phase modulation). Radio systems also need an antenna to convert electric currents into radio waves, and vice versa. An antenna can be used for both transmitting and receiving. The electrical resonance of tuned circuits in radios allow individual stations to be selected. The electromagnetic wave is intercepted by a tuned receiving antenna. A radio receiver receives its input from an antenna and converts it into a form usable for the consumer, such as sound, pictures, digital data, measurement values, navigational positions, etc. Radio frequencies occupy the range from a 3 kHz to 300 GHz, although commercially important uses of radio use only a small part of this spectrum.

Damascus (Arabic: دمشق Dimashq IPA: [ˈdiːmaːʃq]) is the capital and the second-largest city of Syria after Aleppo. It is commonly known in Syria as ash-Sham (Arabic: الشام ash-Shām) and nicknamed as the City of Jasmine (Arabic: مدينة الياسمين Madīnat al-Yāsmīn). In addition to being one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Damascus is a major cultural and religious center of the Levant. The city has an estimated population of 1,711,000 as of 2009.
Located in southwestern Syria, Damascus is the center of a large metropolitan area of 2.6 million people (2004). Geographically embedded on the eastern foothills of the Anti-Lebanon mountain range 80 kilometres (50 mi) inland from the eastern shore of the Mediterranean on a plateau 680 metres (2,230 ft) above sea-level, Damascus experiences a semi-arid climate because of the rain shadow effect. The Barada River flows through Damascus.
First settled in the second millennium BC, it was chosen as the capital of the Umayyad Caliphate from 661 to 750. After the victory of the Abbasid dynasty, the seat of Islamic power was moved to Baghdad. Damascus saw a political decline throughout the Abbasid era, only to regain significant importance in the Ayyubid and Mamluk periods. During Ottoman rule, the city decayed while maintaining a certain cultural prestige. Today, it is the seat of the central government and all of the government ministries.

Syrian Girl is a Sunni Muslim from Damascus in her late 20s, now living in Australia. She has a very popular YouTube channel, which she calls anti-neocon, anti-NWO and anti-Zionist. Our conversation begins with a comparison of Shiite and Sunni Muslims, and then we look at what life was like in Syria before the beautiful country in the heart of the Fertile Crescent was destabilized. Syrian Girl describes Syria’s relationship with its neighboring countries before the Zio-west invaded the Middle East, and she explains the oil pipeline conflict between Iran, Qatar and Syria that brought a money hungry war to the region. Then, we get into why Syria has been invaded, and we cover the eight reasons why the NWO hates Syria and the Socialist Nationalist ideals of the Ba’ath Party. We talk about the...

Travel video about destination Aleppo in Syria. Sturdy walls and gates protect the ancient historic city of Aleppo in Syria. The narrow lanes in the old town, and its many historic buildings, have retained all the character and charm of a mediaeval metropolis. The city has a flourishing economy which is mainly due to its favourable location at the junction of several important trading routes. In 1169 the Umayyade Mosque was re-built at the command of the Zengid monarch, Nureddin, but only its impressive forty five metre high minaret has survived to the present day. The Baits are true architectural gems of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, noble and often palatial-looking buildings that once belonged to the city’s elite classes. Today Aleppo shines out once again in the glory of its ...

Prior to the Syrian Conflict, Travel Tales visited the famed city of Aleppo, Syria losing themselves in a labyrinth of bustling passageways and chatting with merchants and locals. They described their experience a 'magical and memorable' and lucky for us they have gathered up some of their travel videos to share with all of us. So on behalf of Travel Tales, enjoy a excerpt of their time in Aleppo, once Syria's largest and most populated city which sits in the north-western portion of the country close to Turkey's southern boarder and one of the longest inhabited cities with some scholars claiming it dates back to the 6th millennium BC. While it's history is long and vast we offer just a glimpse of life in the ancient metropolis with their video. Video presented by TenMoreSteps Video cre...

Travel video about destination Damascus in Syria. Damascus is the capital of Syria and is a symbol of culture in the Near East. A hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast, the strategically located city was once the capital of the Umayyad.Cannons, the busts of various presidents and military vehicles are displayed in the large courtyard of the Takiyeh Mosque, an ancient Dervish monastery complex. Built in 1554 and designed by Ottoman master architect, Sinan, it also includes an adjoining inn for the numerous pilgrims who travelled to Mecca. Damascus has always been much prized: by the pharaohs and the Babylonian monarch, Nebukadnezar, and later, Alexander The Great. Then came Persian, Roman and Islamic emperors followed by the Crusaders and Mongols. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on ...

Travel video about destination Palmyra in Syria. Set amid the desert savannah of Syria are the proud remains of the unique and mysterious metropolis of Palmyra. The legendary ancient city was built in this vicinity due to the existence of an oasis, Tadmur, and today around thirty thousand people live in the surrounding area. The shortest and fastest route from the Mediterranean to Mesopotamia and Persia travels directly past the Tadmur Oasis thus it was only a question of time until an important trading post was founded there and later a flourishing cultural and economic centre developed. Close to the former Agora, the central square in which the city’s inhabitants held their weekly market since the first century A.D., is one of Palmyra’s architectural landmarks, the Tetrapylon. Travel video about destination Palmyra in Syria. The ruins of the ancient city of Palmyra rise up into the desert sky of Syria. The Hadrian Gate was built in the second century A.D. and highlights the glorious past of this once important trading metropolis in the Near East.Flanked by columns, a majestic twelve hundred metre long avenue was once Palmyra’s main street. As with many of the city’s other buildings it also has an impressive theatre that dates back to the second century A.D. and was discovered in the 1950’s. For some years it has once again served as a place of entertainment as each spring it features a festival. Close to the Agora, once a farmer’s market, is Palmyra’s striking main landmark, the Tetrapylon that forms the junction between the main avenue and a side road that lead...

Take a tour of Ancient City of Bosra in Bosra, Syrian Arab Republic -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. The half-standing ruins of this dark-stoned city rise out of the southern Syrian landscape. Nearly deserted today, Bosra has a great deal of history from thousands of years of habitation by different cultures. The city is at least old enough to have appeared in historical documents from the fourteenth century BC. Early in the first millennium AD, Bosra became a part of the Roman Empire, which is the strongest influence seen at work in the ruins. Since then, it has been the territory of the Byzantine Empire and the Arabs who swept in during the seventh century. Among the ruined city's Roman and Christian structures, the fortified...

This is a cleaned version of a rare recording from radio in Syria. I assume it is dated back to around 1955-1960, not sure. The original record had other radio frequencies mixing in due to AM radio broadcast (those of my age would know what I am talking about!), rendering this rare and beautiful recitation unenjoyable. I cleaned it and thought to myself, why keep it to yourself alone, share it on youtube so maybe some other Mostafa Ismael fan / collector will benefit from it, so here it is...

J'écris sur ce que j'endure
Les petites morts, sur les blessure
J'écris ma peur
Mon manque d'amour
J'écris du coeur
Mais c'est toujours
Sur ce que je n'ai pas pu dire
Pas pu vivre, pas su retenir
J'écris en vers
Et contre tous
C'est toujours l'enfer
Qui me pousse
Rassure-toi
Ça me paraît moins difficile
Rassure-toi
