LUCKNOW: Counted among the 10 most dangerous fish in the world, a pair of Pterios fish is the latest addition to Lucknow zoo.
Commonly known as lionfish, these small marine creatures are red, white and cream in colour with black bands and possess venomous spiky fins. Known for their stripes and unique tentacles, lionfish are originally found in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Zoo director Anupam Gupta said because these fish look so different from the other fish, they attract a lot of attention.
"This is for the first time that Lucknow zoo has got these fish. Both of them are young, and lionfish usually have a lifespan ranging five to 15 years. Initially, after being brought to the zoo, they were kept in a closed environment before being put on display for the public," he said.
