Steve Evets (born Steven Murphy; 26 July 1959) is an English actor and musician, who found fame in the leading role in the 2009 film Looking for Eric.
Born in Salford, Greater Manchester, Evets joined the Merchant Navy after leaving school, but was kicked out after three years, after jumping ship twice in Japan and spending his eighteenth birthday in a Bombay brothel.
In 1987 Evets was stabbed through the liver, lung and diaphragm, glassed in the face and had his throat cut in a pub brawl on Mother's Day 1987. He spent time on a life support machine.
Evets briefly worked delivering pipes alongside his acting career, and as an electrician. As there was already a Steve Murphy on the books of Equity, he decided on the stage name Steve Evets, "The first thing that popped into my head was 'Steve' backwards ... so I put that on the form."
His name is a palindrome.
Evets early acting work included a street theatre company formed with two friends. He moved into theatre work, and had small roles in several television series such as See No Evil: The Moors Murders, Casualty, Life on Mars, The Cops, Shameless, and Emmerdale.
Éric Daniel Pierre Cantona (French pronunciation: [e'ʁik kɑ̃to'na]; born 24 May 1966) is a French actor and former international footballer for the French national team. He played for Auxerre, Martigues, Marseille, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Nîmes and Leeds United before ending his career at Manchester United where he won four Premier League titles in five years and two League and FA Cup Doubles.
A large, physically strong, hard-working, and tenacious forward, who combined technical skill and creativity with power and goalscoring ability, Cantona is often regarded as having played a key role in the revival of Manchester United as a footballing force in the 1990s and he enjoys iconic status at the club. He wore the number 7 shirt at Manchester United with his trademark upturned collar. Cantona is affectionately nicknamed by Manchester United fans as "King Eric", and was voted as Manchester United's greatest ever player by Inside United magazine. Set against his achievements in football was a poor disciplinary record for much of his career, including a 1995 conviction for a 'kung-fu' assault on a fan, and at a press conference following his initial conviction Cantona gave his famous "seagulls" statement. His disciplinary record, however, was much improved after he returned from the eight-month suspension right up to his retirement as a player two years later.
Stephen or Steven /ˈstiːvən/ is a masculine first name, derived from the Greek name Στέφανος (Stéfanos), in turn from the Greek word "στέφανος", meaning "wreath, crown, honour, reward", literally "that which surrounds or encompasses". In ancient Greece, a wreath was given to the winner of a contest (from which the crown, symbol of rulers derived). The use of the noun was first recorded in Homer's Iliad. The name is significant to Christians: according to the Book of Acts in the New Testament, Saint Stephen was a deacon who was stoned to death and is regarded as the first Christian martyr. The name has many variants, which include Stephan, Stevan, Stefan and Stevon.
In Middle English, the name Stephen or Stephan was pronounced as a bi-syllabic word — Step-hen or Step-han — much like a Scandinavian surname. Steve was pronounced as it is in Modern English. This etymological usage began a decline in the mid-19th century.
Steve is the common short form, while various diminutives such as Stevie and Ste are also used. Many family names are derived from Stephen: the most common are Stephens/Stevens and Stephenson/Stevenson (others include Stephen, Stephan, Staphan, Stefan, Stevin and Stever).
Looking for Eric is a 2009 British-French film about the escape from the trials of modern life that football and its heroes can bring for its fans. It was written by screen writer Paul Laverty and directed by the English director Ken Loach. The film's cast includes the former professional footballer Eric Cantona and the former bass guitarist with The Fall, Steve Evets.
Loach said of the film, "We wanted to deflate the idea of celebrities as more than human. And we wanted to make a film that was enjoying the idea of what you and I would call solidarity, but what others would call support for your friends really, and the old idea that we are stronger as a team than we are as individuals."
Kenneth "Ken" Loach (born 17 June 1936) is an English film and television director.
He is known for his naturalistic, social realist directing style and for his socialism, which are evident in his film treatment of social issues such as homelessness (Cathy Come Home) and labour rights (Riff-Raff and The Navigators).
Loach was born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, the son of Vivien (née Hamlin) and John Loach.
Loach's ten contributions to the BBC's Wednesday Play anthology series include the docudramas Up the Junction (1965), Cathy Come Home (1966) and In Two Minds (1967). They portray working-class people in conflict with the authorities above them. Three of his early plays are believed to be lost films. His 1965 play Three Clear Sundays dealt with capital punishment, and was broadcast at a time when the debate was at a height in the United Kingdom.Up the Junction, adapted by Nell Dunn from her book with the assistance of Loach, deals with an illegal abortion while the leading characters in Cathy Comes Home, by Jeremy Sandford, are affected by homelessness, unemployment, and the workings of Social Services. In Two Minds, written by David Mercer, concerns a young schizophrenic woman's experiences of the mental health system. Tony Garnett began to work as his producer in this period, a professional connection which would last until the end of the 1970s.

A typical actor's passive aggressive argument. We'd just finished shooting a short film with Steve Evets (Looking for Eric, Wuthering Heights, Rev) when a local actor Will Travis "Trevor" (Where the heart is, Casualty, This is England) turned up with his girlfriend. Will had told me he was planning to wind Steve up so I kept the camera rolling. The background is that Will should have been in Looking for Eric but Steve crashed his car filming a roundabout scene and Will's part was cut.
British actor Steve Evets encourages the production of low-budget films which, like The Blair Witch Project, may turn into box-office hits.

The Moods release of Joy, their powerful new single, ahead of UK tour. Joy is accompanied by a thought-provoking short film starring actor and musician Steve Evets, who found fame in the leading role in 2009 film looking for Eric, and formerly played Bass for The Fall. Shot on location in Salford and Manchester, the story follows two wildly different characters as an average day unravels and they both meet dramatic and contrasting fates. It’s an emotional story with a hopeful ending, and it will stay with you long after you’ve watched it. As well as Evets, the video, directed and filmed by Croftwerk Productions, features established local actors Nicole Evans, John Mackie and radio broadcaster James Stannage. London Press Conference for Ken Loach's film Looking For Eric. In attendance were: director Ken Loach, actors Eric Cantona and Steve Evets, along with screenwriter Paul Laverty.
Steve Evets and Eric Cantona answer questions about the movie
Eric Cantona was an extraordinary player not only because of his skills and charisma. More importantly, he embodied the opposition to a total commodification and sanitization of soccer—its transformation in pure entertainment, reassuringly void of any real emotional commitment and of any collective display of cultural solidarity. Cantona understood that play, irony, and the carnivalesque are inherently subversive acts, that could and should undermine—or at least resist—the construction of a passive audience and a docile society, paralyzed by fear of imagined threats and willing to accept widening inequality and appalling injustice. A few short clips were taken from the 2009 movie Looking for Eric (directed by Ken Loach, starring Eric Cantona and Steve Evets).

Valamikor a 80-as években találtam egy könyvet, amiben ABBA-átiratok voltak zongorára.

Symptoms of life, our disbelief
Punished for severed hope
Outcast in life for having an opinion of our own
Sometimes things have to be said
No matter what the cost we spend
Can't force tradition
It won't come from suffering
Won't be a victim
In this bloody system
Lost soul you'll burn for your believe
Cast in the city of dis
I know the world has a way to work out on it's own
Don't need the insanity
Faith must be earned
I can live, with myself
I have faith, in myself
Can't force your own ways of tradition
It won't come from the suffering of victims
Can't believe in this filthy bloody system
Fires won't burn our right to have opinions
I can live, with myself
