Backcountry

A backcountry area in general terms is a geographical region that is remote, undeveloped, isolated, or difficult to access.

A backcountry region can be close to urban areas if it is not immediately accessible by vehicle, at relatively high altitude, or not generally frequented by human visitors.

Terminology

Backcountry versus wilderness

While the term "backcountry" is roughly comparable to the term "wilderness", they are not necessarily equivalent. "Wilderness" implies more the condition, whereas "backcountry" implies more the position.

There is some debate about the accessibility of people by means other than human power. While wilderness is a state of mind that implies pristine and untouched landscapes, backcountry serves as areas of land explored exclusively by human power. Wilderness exists in many places, including the backcountry.

In New Zealand, "backcountry" often refers to land that is not accessible by public access. For example, it is common for a farmer to have some remote parts of his land left in scrubland or forest. This is often adjacent to other areas of backcountry which are yet to be developed or protected from development. Trampers and other explorers sometimes need to get farmers' permission to access parts of the national parks of New Zealand or other natural phenomena, if they intend to pass over backcountry. Hunters can ask for permission from farmers to hunt in their backcountry.

Red Bull

Red Bull is an energy drink sold by Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, created in 1987. In terms of market share, Red Bull is the highest-selling energy drink in the world, with 5.387 billion cans sold in 2013.

Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz was inspired by an existing energy drink named Krating Daeng, which was first invented and sold in Thailand. He took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of Westerners, and, in partnership with Chaleo Yoovidhya, founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987 in Chakkapong, Thailand. In Thai, daeng means red, and krating is the large bovine called "gaur". Red Bull is sold in a tall and slim blue-silver can, while Krating Daeng is in a gold shorter can. The two are different products, produced separately.

The Red Bull company slogan is "Red Bull gives you wings", and the product is marketed through advertising, events (Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, Red Bull Air Race, Red Bull Crashed Ice), sports team ownerships (RB Leipzig, FC Red Bull Salzburg, Red Bull Brasil, New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Toro Rosso), celebrity endorsements, and music, through its record label Red Bull Records.

Missy Peregrym

Melissa "Missy" Peregrym (born June 16, 1982) is a Canadian actress and former fashion model. She made her feature film debut in the 2006 gymnastics comedy drama Stick It, played a recurring role as Candice Wilmer on the NBC television series Heroes, and starred in The CW television series Reaper. She starred as Officer Andy McNally on the ABC and Global Television Network series Rookie Blue.

Early life

Peregrym was born in Montreal to Rev. Darrell Peregrym, a minister, and Vanessa Peregrym, a housewife. She describes herself as having been a tomboy while growing up.

Career

Aged 18, Peregrym began her professional career with the Lizbell Agency. It was during her early modelling career that she was encouraged by her agency to move over to commercials. Due to this shift from print to screen, she did commercials for Mercedes-Benz, Sprint Canada, and the Olympics. In 2000, Peregrym made her acting debut in an episode of the Canadian based television series Dark Angel. Building upon her debut role, she performed in guest star roles on The Chris Isaak Show, Black Sash, Jake 2.0, Smallville, Tru Calling, Life as We Know It, Andromeda, Heroes, and in the made-for-television film Call Me: the Rise and Fall of Heidi Fleiss.

IFC Films

IFC Films is an American film distribution company based in New York City. It is an offshoot of IFC owned by AMC Networks. It distributes independent films and documentaries under the IFC Films, Sundance Selects and IFC Midnight brands. It operates the IFC Center.

History

IFC has several ventures in video on demand (VOD), available through cable television pay-per-view, Apple iTunes, and formerly Blockbuster's Movielink. 2006, IFC launched IFC First Take combining a limited theatrical release with video on demand being available the same day, the films included would be shown at IFC owned IFC Center, as well as other theaters, Landmark Theatres were the first outside theaters announced. That same year, In 2006, IFC Films began distributing some films to Apple iTunes. The first batch were thirteen films with nominations in the Film Independent Spirit Awards. In a March 2008 panel discussion, IFC Film's Arianna Bocco stated that all its films would be released through First Take. That same year, IFC launched IFC Festival Direct, a platform for video on demand distribution, for films that aren't slated for a theatrical release in the United States, the idea of Festival Direct was to remove the term direct-to-video. in 2010, it was announced that IFC Films would be launching a division titled IFC Midnight, the division would focus on releasing horror, sci-fi, thrillers, erotic arthouse, and action.
