Cindy Pickett (born April 18, 1947) is an American actress.
She is known for her 1970s role as Jackie Marler-Spaulding on the CBS soap Guiding Light; her role as Dr. Carol Novino on the television drama St. Elsewhere in the 1980s; for her critically acclaimed performance as the real-life Kay Stayner, the mother of a boy who was kidnapped for several years, in the dramatic TV movie I Know My First Name Is Steven; and for her cinematic roles and performances as Valerie St. John in Roger Vadim's little-known 1980 erotic cult film, Jeux de Nuit / Night Games, for which she would have the leading role, and as the tough-as-nails and heroic Dr. Jane Norris in the 1989 sci-fi-horror film DeepStar Six.
Pickett, however, is best known to audiences for her lighter turn as Katie Bueller, Matthew Broderick's loving and unsuspecting mother, in the 1986 classic American comedy movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Pickett made a major departure from her soap opera image when she played the central role in the 1980 erotic film Jeux de Nuit / Night Games, directed by Roger Vadim. It was a sexually charged role involving numerous nude scenes, however the film went unnoticed and did not boost Pickett's career. In the 1981 mystery/crime drama Margin for Murder, Pickett played the role of Velda, Mike Hammer's (Kevin Dobson) loyal and devoted secretary. She played "Jackie Marler" on the soap opera The Guiding Light from 1976 to 1980, "Vanessa Sarnac" on the ABC weekly TV series Call to Glory from 1984 to 1985, and she appeared on the hospital drama TV series St. Elsewhere from 1986 to 1988. In 1991 she played the part of Addy Mathewson in the TV movie/pilot Plymouth, which at the time was considered to be one of the most expensive such movies ever made.

The minivan segment may be shrinking as crossovers explode in popularity, but the Dodge Caravan is still one of the best-selling vehicles in Canada. Giving credit where credit is due, the Caravan, along with its twin the Plymouth Voyager, created the minivan segment more than 30 years ago. With Chrysler launching an all-new minivan, the Pacifica, this year, we thought we'd look back 25 years to the launch of the second-generation Plymouth Voyager, which, just like the Pacifica today, was built in Windsor, Ont. The biggest difference for 1991 was the addition of a V6 engine, with Graeme Fletcher noting the 3.3-litre "produces a healthy 150 horsepower and 180 lb.-ft. of torque," a far cry from the Pacifica's 3.6-litre V6 that which makes 287 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque. In the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis, creative impulses and new technologies have combined to change the way we view global currencies. Digital cash, like Bitcoin, has opened up opportunities for the world’s poor who rarely have access to traditional banking. Will future global currencies do to banking what Skype did for phone calls and the internet did for information? What are the potential economic and cultural ramifications? Dr. William Luther, an alumnus of Capital University, went on to earn his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics at George Mason University. Dr. Luther is primarily interested in questions of currency acceptance and the role governments play in determining commonly accepted media of exchange. Along these lines, he has written extensively on the monetary regimes of...

"Amerika" Miniseries, 1987 "Amerika" -- suggesting a Russified name for the United States -- is an American television miniseries that was broadcast in 1987 on ABC. It starred Kris Kristofferson, Mariel Hemingway, Sam Neill, Robert Urich, and a 17-year-old Lara Flynn Boyle in her first major role. Not wanting to depict the actual coup, ABC Entertainment president Brandon Stoddard instead chose to set the action of the miniseries ten years after the event, focusing on the demoralized American people a decade after the Soviet conquest. The intent, he later explained, was to explore the American spirit under such conditions, not to portray the conflict of the Soviet takeover. Described in promotion...

Episode #147: Filmed in 2006 at Industria Studios, New York, photographer Laurie Simmons directs scenes for her first film, "The Music of Regret," starring Meryl Streep. A longtime friend of Simmons and married to a sculptor herself, Streep conveys the difficulties and advantages of leaving a solitary studio practice to work with dozens of crew and collaborators on a motion picture. Laurie Simmons stages photographs and films with paper dolls, finger puppets, ventriloquist dummies, and costumed dancers as 'living objects', animating a dollhouse world suffused with nostalgia and colored by an adult's memories, longings, and regrets. Her work blends psychological, political and conceptual approaches to art making, transforming photography's propensity to objectify people, especially women...
