Joan Jett (born Joan Marie Larkin; September 22, 1958) is an American rock guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer and occasional actress, best known for her work with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, preceded by success with The Runaways, including their hit song "Cherry Bomb". The Blackhearts' record "I Love Rock 'n' Roll", was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 from March 20 to May 1, 1982. Their other popular recordings include "Crimson and Clover", "I Hate Myself for Loving You", "Do You Wanna Touch Me", "Light of Day", "Love Is All Around" and "Bad Reputation".
Jett has a mezzo-soprano vocal range. She has three albums that have been certified Platinum or Gold, and has been a feminist icon throughout her career. She is considered by the Toronto Sun as the Queen of Rock ‘n Roll. She is also known as the Godmother of Punk. In 2015, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Joan Marie Larkin was born September 22, 1958 at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. She is the oldest of three children. Her father sold insurance; her mother was a secretary. Her family were Protestant and attended church, but were not particularly religious. Her family moved to Rockville, Maryland, in 1967 where she attended Randolph Junior High and Wheaton High School. Jett got her first guitar at the age of 14. She took some guitar lessons, but quit soon after when the instructor kept trying to teach her folk songs. Her family then moved to West Covina, California, in Los Angeles County, providing Jett the opportunity to pursue her musical endeavors.

Plot: In 1975, San Fernando Valley teen Joan Larkin reinvents herself as Joan Jett, a guitarist who wants to form an all-girl punk band. She pitches the idea to a sleazy manager, Kim Fowley, who pairs her with a drummer and then searches for a face: he finds Cherie Currie, at 15 the perfect jailbait image for his purpose; by luck, she can sing. Two others round out the band, "The Runaways." Fowley books a tour, signs them to Mercury Records, and packs them off to crowds in Japan. Seeds of conflict sprout early: Fowley puts Cherie front and center in the publicity, she's soon strung out on pills and vodka, and jealousies arise. Without adult supervision, where can Joan and Cherie end up?

"I Hate Myself For Loving You" is a 1988 song from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and the first single from the album Up Your Alley. The song reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, Jett's third single to reach the Top 10, but her first since "Crimson And Clover" in 1982. Former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor played the guitar solo in the song. One of the backing vocalists featured on the Up Your Alley album was Louie Merlino, later the founder of the band Beggars & Thieves. Merlino did backing vocals on countless songs that were written or co-written by Desmond Child. When Las Vegas, Nevada-based band Sin City Sinners has Merlino singing with them, it is not uncommon for them to cover this song. For this song, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts received a nomination at the 31st Grammy Awar...

Jackie Fuchs, formerly of The Runaways, discusses how her alleged rape by Kim Fowley has been denied by bandmates Joan Jett and Cherie Curie, and how the event rippled through the scene in terrible ways. Following the Huffington Post article about the assault, Fuchs has come under heavy scrutiny that has gotten her support from rape survivors, and criticism from disbelievers and skeptics, but she explains how her truth has helped set her (and others) free in this highlight from the Crime Time interview with Mike Cavalluzzi, hosted by Allison Hope Weiner. One of the very first full - segment sit down TV interviews from Joan Jett. This rare video features Joan Jett on Roseanne Show, a short-lived late-night mish-mash of everything/anything one could think of featuring Roseanne Barr/Arnold/Etc. Although Roseanne tends to lean toward the eccentric, she asks some very probing questions and is generally interested in Joan and has been a fan for a long time. This interview has generated quite a bit of controversy, but it is what it is, as so is Roseanne and Joan Jett. They make no apologies for it. I have always loved this off-beat and interesting interview. I hope you do as well. Mikey

Mikey

I proudly wear a T-Shirt with that printed on the front at many of the gigs that I photograph around Melbourne Rock Central. I am extremely proud of that fact! Sure I liked Bowie, Slade, T-Rex, Sweet and so forth but it was a photograph of a leather clad Suzi Quatro that was the first poster that I ever stuck up on my bedroom wall. It was a visceral connection that got my motor...

Tell me what
Would you like me to do
Tell me, dear
What can I do for you
Tell me what
Now don't be shy
You're my guy
What can I do for you
I would be so ashamed
If you hesitate
To call my name
Yeah, yeah
Tell me what
Would you like me to do
Tell me, dear
What can I do for you
I would be so ashamed
If you hesitate
To call my name
Yeah, yeah
Tell me what
Would you like me to do
