The Edsel was an automobile marque that was planned, developed, and manufactured by the Ford Motor Company during the 1958, 1959, and 1960 model years. With the Edsel, Ford had expected to make significant inroads into the market share of both General Motors and Chrysler and close the gap between itself and GM in the domestic American automotive market. But contrary to Ford's internal plans and projections, the Edsel never gained popularity with contemporary American car buyers and sold poorly. The Ford Motor Company lost millions of dollars on the Edsel's development, manufacturing and marketing. The very word "Edsel" became a popular symbol for a commercial failure.
Ford Motor Company became a publicly traded corporation on January 17, 1956, and thus was no longer entirely owned by members of the Ford family. The company was now able to sell cars according to current market trends following the sellers' market of the postwar years. Ford's new management compared the company's roster of makes with that of General Motors and Chrysler, and concluded that Lincoln was competing not with Cadillac, but with Oldsmobile, Buick and DeSoto. Ford developed a plan to move Lincoln upmarket, with the Continental broken out as a separate make at the top of Ford's product line, and to add a premium/intermediate vehicle to the intermediate slot vacated by Lincoln.
The Edsel Ranger is an automobile that was produced and sold by Edsel in the 1958, 1959 and 1960 model years. It was built on the shorter, narrower Edsel platform, shared with Ford and Edsel Pacer models.
The Ranger was the base trim option for Edsel in its first and second years as an automotive marque. It was available in two-door coupes, four-door sedans, and two and four-door hardtops with a convertible also offer in 1960.
Ranger is one of two of Edsel's model nameplates re-used by Ford, Villager being the other.
The Ranger's base trim appointments included arm rests, a cigarette lighter, rear-view mirror, two coat hangers and black rubber floor mats. On the exterior, Rangers received chrome around the rear quarter panel cove molding. Two-tone paint was also optional. The main visual cue that makes it possible to tell the difference between most Rangers and the upmarket Pacer was the lack of stainless trim on the front doors and fenders. A very rare, optional, Ranger-only door trim was available from dealers early in the model year to be used together with the Pacer fender trim. A basic heater (as a US$92 option) and radio (at US$95) were available, and air conditioning was optional as well (at $417), along with seat belts, warning lights, automatic trunk opener, and rear door child safety lock covers.
The Ford Motor Company (commonly referred to as simply Ford) is an American multinational automaker headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. It was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated on June 16, 1903. The company sells automobiles and commercial vehicles under the Ford brand and most luxury cars under the Lincoln brand. Ford also owns Brazilian SUV manufacturer, Troller, and Australian performance car manufacturer FPV. In the past it has also produced tractors and automotive components. Ford owns a 2.1% stake in Mazda of Japan, an 8% stake in Aston Martin of the United Kingdom, and a 49% stake in Jiangling of China. It also has a number of joint-ventures, two in China (Changan Ford Mazda and Ford Lio Ho), one in Thailand (AutoAlliance Thailand), one in Turkey (Ford Otosan), and one in Russia (Ford Sollers). It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is controlled by the Ford family, although they have minority ownership.
Ford introduced methods for large-scale manufacturing of cars and large-scale management of an industrial workforce using elaborately engineered manufacturing sequences typified by moving assembly lines; by 1914 these methods were known around the world as Fordism. Ford's former UK subsidiaries Jaguar and Land Rover, acquired in 1989 and 2000 respectively, were sold to Tata Motors in March 2008. Ford owned the Swedish automaker Volvo from 1999 to 2010. In 2011, Ford discontinued the Mercury brand, under which it had marketed entry-level luxury cars in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East since 1938.
The Edsel Roundup is a station wagon that was produced and sold by Edsel in 1958. Like the Villager and Bermuda station wagons, the Roundup was built on a 116-inch (2,946 mm) wheelbase shared with Ford's station wagons, as well as core body stampings. It had an approach angle of 21° and an overall length of 205.42 in.
The Roundup represented the base trim level available within the Edsel brand for a station wagon, and was only available during Edsel's introductory year of 1958. The Roundup was available only as a six-passenger two-door station wagon. The Roundup came with black rubber flooring, armrests, front and rear ashtrays, dome and courtesy lights, and a white vinyl headliner. A split-back front seat was standard to allow access to the back seat. In place of roll-down rear windows, the Roundup used sliding windows.
To further separate the Roundup from the Ford Ranch Wagon on which it was based, the Roundup received Edsel's front fascia and grille assembly, as well as unique boomerang-shaped taillights. The shape of the taillights posed a problem when used as turn indicators – the left hand taillight appeared as an arrow pointing right and vice versa from a distance.
A trademark, trade mark, or trade-mark is a recognizable sign, design, or expression which identifies products or services of a particular source from those of others, although trademarks used to identify services are usually called service marks. The trademark owner can be an individual, business organization, or any legal entity. A trademark may be located on a package, a label, a voucher, or on the product itself. For the sake of corporate identity, trademarks are being displayed on company buildings.
A trademark identifies the brand owner of a particular product or service. Trademarks can be licensed to others; for example, Bullyland obtained a license to produce Smurf figurines; the Lego Group purchased a license from Lucasfilm in order to be allowed to launch Lego Star Wars; TT Toys Toys is a manufacturer of licensed ride-on replica cars for children. The unauthorized usage of trademarks by producing and trading counterfeit consumer goods is known as brand piracy.
The owner of a trademark may pursue legal action against trademark infringement. Most countries require formal registration of a trademark as a precondition for pursuing this type of action. The United States, Canada and other countries also recognize common law trademark rights, which means action can be taken to protect an unregistered trademark if it is in use. Still common law trademarks offer the holder in general less legal protection than registered trademarks.

With pregnant Rita in pain and Miguel pleading, Edsel reluctantly gives in not knowing the consequences of his decision. A short trip becomes a headache as he dodges accidents and garbage bins while the incessant arguing of the dysfunctional couple tests his patience. After he kicks the couple out and drives away, his conscience gets the best of him. He takes them back in. At the hospital, a cold heart warms when Edsel receives a gift from grateful father-to-be Miguel. Later that evening, parked back in his spot, Edsel again sits alone. Plot: Founded in 1910 just outside of the city limits of Gilbert located in Lanville County, Texas, the Chicken Ranch has for generations been known as the best whorehouse in Texas for its wholesome fun, strict moral code and cleanliness, all perpetuated by its original owner, Miss Wulla Jean. Seven years ago, Miss Wulla Jean passed on, leaving the Chicken Ranch to her favorite working girl, Miss Mona Stangley, who wants to keep the same traditions of Miss Wulla Jean. The Chicken Ranch has always had the unofficial blessing of the local authorities, who see the ranch providing an important community service, one which most in local authority have used at one time or another in their life. In fact, Miss Mona and Lanville County Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd have been in a relationship for years, Ed Earl who is Miss Mona's protector, albeit one with a hot temper and good ol' boy attitude that doesn't exactly match the needs of his law upholding position. That blessing may change when television personality and consumer watchdog, Melvin P. Thorpe, one of the most powerful men in the state, starts an on-air exposé of the illegal activities at the Chicken Ranch, the exposé which includes Ed Earl's role in letting it happen. Ed Earl and Miss Mona's relationship goes through some difficult times on how to deal with this issue, especially with the upcoming annual party night with the players following the Thanksgiving Day football game between the University of Texas and Texas A&M;, this party which is arguably the Chicken Ranch's busiest night of the year and one filled with tradition for the ranch and the participating schools. Will the Chicken Ranch be able to remain open especially in light of a spineless Governor who sways to the direction of polls, and will Ed Earl and Miss Mona's relationship be able to withstand the pressure?

For this video, we hop in Jordan's beautiful Edsel Ranger- often considered the biggest automotive failure in history due to the cost of development verses the number it sold. It was my first time ever driving a classic with the "three on the tree" shifting format with clutch and all. It was a really fantastic time. Thanks for watching and stay awesome! "Strictly for Stunts" is one of several promotional films produced by Ford Motor Company to promote the 1958 Edsel automobile. In September 1957, Ford introduced their new medium-price car, the Edsel. After three disastrous years of sales failure and massive losses, Ford discontinued the Edsel. One of the largest product flops in history, the few remaining Edsels are now prized by collectors. Ford also produced three travelogues to showcase the Edsel: Okenfenokee Interlude, What a Vacation, and West to the Tetons. A highly regarded one hour musical special "The Edsel Show" starring Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, and Louis Armstrong was presented live on CBS-TV October 13, 1957. "The Edsel Show" and all three travelogues are available on my YouTube channel.

Howard Stableford talks to Jim Thornberry as he shows him his unique and rare Ford Edsel, and gives us a brief history.
RSKustoms 58 Edsel, we have done a lot of work new paint job, new cherry bombs and bellfowers and it sounds great.
1958 Edsel Roundup. Only 963 ever built. The Roundup was unique and was a 1 year model only. It was a 2 door wagon and had sliding glass side windows. Its design was an answer to compete with Chevrolets Nomad Wagon. With an engine that delivers over 300 H.P. it was an impressive machine. This Ford Edsel Roundup has remained hidden and unknown for decades. This car was not known to still exist. The car has its original paint, original mileage and is still exactly as it came from the factory in 1957 when it was delivered new at R.J. Edsel in Philadelphia Pa. It is still rolling on its last set of 1960s bias ply tires that are in amazing condition. The oil change sticker are still in the door. The assembly line number is still on the fire wall, (#119). along with the grease pen paint code (...
This is the VOA Special English Technology Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish The Ford Motor Company built several versions of the Edsel from nineteen fifty-eight to nineteen sixty. Ford ended production of the car after just three model years because of weak sales. The Edsel has been described as a "colossal failure" -- that is what the name has even come to mean in popular language. But the Edsel has also been described as "a car ahead of its time." John Heitmann is a history professor at the University of Dayton in Ohio and vice president of the Society for Automotive Historians. He says: "It was a car that was controversial in styling. Its horseshoe-shaped grill is still remembered today. The Edsel is kind of the example of the car t...
www.CarGuyLuke.com 5/4/14...Just saw this in person yesterday and it blew my mind. In what can be best described as a 2000 sq ft litterbox, I opened this barn to find almost 10 cars that seemed to have been parked 30 years ago...so tightly that it was hard to get between them. The most amazing cars in the lot were an 1958 Edsel Pacer Convertible (1 of 1876 Produced), and a 1966/67 Dodge Charger. Both of these cars appeared to have been in pristine condition when parked. The seller's agent told me that they are in the process of removing the cars from the barn and going though them in preparation for selling them. Amazing!!!

Betty passes up lots of great stuff and sticks with the curtain and gets a Zonk; a 14-year old Edsel. Back then, a car that old was considered really old, and any Edsel was worthless, but today it's another story; According to current collector car price guides, that wagon in the condition you see it would be worth somewhere between $4,000 and $5,000.
This video was recorded at the Edsel Owner’s Club National Meet July 29-August 2, 1987, thirty years after the launch of the Edsel brand. The honored guests were Roy Brown, Head Stylist of the 1958 Edsel and C Gayle Warnock, Public Relations Director for the Edsel Division of Ford Motor Company. At this gathering of Edsel enthusiasts and collectors, these men shared fascinating details about the development and marketing of The Edsel. The 1958 Edsel automobile was launched as a new brand by Ford Motor Company on September 4, 1957. Heralded as the greatest new car ever produced, the Edsel instead failed miserably, nearly bankrupting Ford Motor Company. The Edsel brand was discontinued due to disastrous sales shortly after the introduction of drastically restyled 1960 models. This video det...
