Ernesto Valverde is the new FC Barcelona coach. The 53 year old former Barça player was previously Athletic Club Bilbao coach and he will take over for the 2017/18 season.
This will be Ernesto Valverde’s second spell at the Club, his first coming as a player between 1988 and 1990. The new Barça coach won the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the Copa del Rey in his two seasons as part of Johan Cruyff’s squad, playing 29 games and scoring 10 goals in official competition.
As a coach Valverde has a wealth of experience in Spain and abroad. He has had two spells as coach at both Athletic Club Bilbao and Greek team Olympiacos as well as having coached at Espanyol, Villarreal and Valencia. In his career he has helped his teams to no less than six trophies, five with Olympiacos and one with Athletic Club.

Ernesto Valverde, de 53 años (nacido el 9 de febrero de 1964 en Viandar de la Vera, Cáceres), será el nuevo entrenador del FC Barcelona. El ex jugador azulgrana llega procedente del Athletic Club, y se hará cargo del primer equipo culé a partir de la temporada 2017/18. Valverde, que será presentado el próximo jueves, llega con su segundo entrenador, Jon Aspiazu, y el ex azulgrana José Antonio Pozanco, que será el preparador físico.
Esta será la segunda etapa de Ernesto Valverde en la entidad azulgrana después de haber vestido la camiseta culé como jugador las temporadas 1988/89 y 1989/90. Dos cursos en los que el de Cáceres levantó una Recopa de Europa en la primera campaña como azulgrana y una Copa del Rey la segunda temporada. Como técnico, el Barça tenía entonces a Johan Cruyff al frente del equipo. Ernesto Valverde disputó 29 partidos con el Barça y marcó 10 goles oficiales.
Como entrenador, Valverde tiene una amplia experiencia a nivel nacional –el Athletic Club en dos etapas, el Espanyol, el Villarreal y el Valencia– y ha tenido dos experiencias internacionales en Grecia, también en dos etapas llenas de éxito. El nuevo entrenador del Barça inició su trayectoria en los banquillos en las categorías inferiores del Athletic Club la temporada 1997/98 al frente del Cadete B, y precisamente ahora llega procedente del club vasco tras cuatro cursos en el primer equipo y con seis títulos bajo el brazo como técnico (5 con el Olympiacos y uno con el Athletic).

Ernesto Valverde
Ernesto Valverde Tejedor (Spanish pronunciation: [erˈnesto βalˈβerðe]; born 9 February 1964) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a forward, and the current coach of Athletic Bilbao.
He played for six teams in a 14-year professional career, including Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, going on to have an extensive spell as a manager and also being in charge of the latter club.
Over the course of ten seasons he amassed La Liga totals of 264 games and 68 goals, adding 55/9 in Segunda División.
Playing career
Valverde was born in Viandar de la Vera, Cáceres, Extremadura. After having made his professional debuts in Segunda División – Deportivo Alavés and Sestao Sport Club – he was transferred to RCD Español in 1986, making his La Liga debut on 31 August in a 1–1 away draw against Atlético de Madrid. In a season that included a second stage he ended with 43 league appearances, scoring seven goals; in his final year he was part of the side that lost the 1988 UEFA Cup on penalties, to Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

FC Barcelona
Futbol Club Barcelona (Catalan pronunciation: [fubˈbɔɫ ˈkɫub bərsəˈɫonə]), also known as Barcelona and familiarly as Barça, is a professional football club, based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

In international club football, Barcelona has won five UEFA Champions League titles, a record four UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, a shared record five UEFA Super Cup, a record three Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and a record three FIFA Club World Cup trophies. Barcelona was ranked first in the IFFHS Club World Ranking for 1997, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2015 and currently occupies the second position on the UEFA club rankings. The club has a long-standing rivalry with Real Madrid; matches between the two teams are referred to as El Clásico.

Ernesto Valverde is the new FC Barcelona coach. The 53 year old former Barça player was previously Athletic Club Bilbao coach and he will take over for the 2017/18 season.
This will be Ernesto Valverde’s second spell at the Club, his first coming as a player between 1988 and 1990. The new Barça coach won the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the Copa del Rey in his two seasons as part of Johan Cruyff’s squad, playing 29 games and scoring 10 goals in official competition.
As a coach Valverde has a wealth of experience in Spain and abroad. He has had two spells as coach at both Athletic Club Bilbao and Greek team Olympiacos as well as having coached at Espanyol, Villarreal and Valencia. In his career he has helped his teams to no less than six trophies, five with Olympiacos and one with Athletic Club.

Ernesto Valverde, de 53 años (nacido el 9 de febrero de 1964 en Viandar de la Vera, Cáceres), será el nuevo entrenador del FC Barcelona. El ex jugador azulgrana llega procedente del Athletic Club, y se hará cargo del primer equipo culé a partir de la temporada 2017/18. Valverde, que será presentado el próximo jueves, llega con su segundo entrenador, Jon Aspiazu, y el ex azulgrana José Antonio Pozanco, que será el preparador físico.
Esta será la segunda etapa de Ernesto Valverde en la entidad azulgrana después de haber vestido la camiseta culé como jugador las temporadas 1988/89 y 1989/90. Dos cursos en los que el de Cáceres levantó una Recopa de Europa en la primera campaña como azulgrana y una Copa del Rey la segunda temporada. Como técnico, el Barça tenía entonces a Johan Cruyff al frente del equipo. Ernesto Valverde disputó 29 partidos con el Barça y marcó 10 goles oficiales.
Como entrenador, Valverde tiene una amplia experiencia a nivel nacional –el Athletic Club en dos etapas, el Espanyol, el Villarreal y el Valencia– y ha tenido dos experiencias internacionales en Grecia, también en dos etapas llenas de éxito. El nuevo entrenador del Barça inició su trayectoria en los banquillos en las categorías inferiores del Athletic Club la temporada 1997/98 al frente del Cadete B, y precisamente ahora llega procedente del club vasco tras cuatro cursos en el primer equipo y con seis títulos bajo el brazo como técnico (5 con el Olympiacos y uno con el Athletic).
