A Royal Household or Imperial Household in ancient and medieval monarchies formed the basis for the general government of the country as well as providing for the needs of the sovereign and his relations.
Among many of these households there are certain great offices which have become, in course of time, merely hereditary. In most cases, as the name of the office would suggest, they were held by those who discharged personal functions about the sovereign. Gradually, in ways or for reasons which might vary in each individual case, the office alone survived, the duties either ceasing to be necessary or being transferred to officers of less exalted station.
In the modern period, royal households have evolved into entities which are variously differentiated from national governments. Most modern households have become merely titular.
The royal households of such of European monarchies have a continuous history since medieval times.

The Imperial Household Agency (宮内庁, Kunai-chō) is an agency of the government of Japan in charge of state matters concerning the Imperial Family and also keeping of the Privy Seal and State Seal of Japan. From around the 8th century AD up to the Second World War, it was named the Imperial Household Ministry (宮内省, Kunai-shō).
The agency is unique among conventional government agencies and ministries, in that it does not directly report to the Prime Minister at the cabinet level, nor is it affected by legislation that establishes it as an Independent Administrative Institution.
The Agency is headed by the Grand Steward and he is assisted by the Vice-Grand Steward. The main organization elements are:
The current Grand Steward is Noriyuki Kazaoka.
Imperial is that which relates to an empire, emperor, or the concept of imperialism.
Imperial or The Imperial may also refer to:
Akihito (明仁, born 23 December 1933) ( English pronunciation ) is the reigning Emperor of Japan (天皇, Tennō), the 125th Emperor of his line according to Japan's traditional order of succession. He acceded to the Chrysanthemum Throne on 7 January 1989.
In Japan, the Emperor is never referred to by his given name, but rather is referred to as "His Majesty the Emperor" (天皇陛下, Tennō Heika) which may be shortened to "His Majesty" (陛下, Heika). In writing, the Emperor is also referred to formally as "The Reigning Emperor" (今上天皇, Kinjō Tennō). The Era of Akihito's reign bears the name "Heisei" (平成), and according to custom he will be renamed "Emperor Heisei" (平成天皇 Heisei Tennō; see "posthumous name") by order of the Cabinet after his death. At the same time, the name of the next era under his successor will also be established.
Akihito is the eldest son and the fifth child of the Emperor Shōwa (Hirohito) and Empress Kōjun (Nagako). Titled Prince Tsugu (継宮, Tsugu-no-miya) as a child, he was raised and educated by his private tutors and then attended the elementary and secondary departments of the Peers' School (Gakushūin) from 1940 to 1952. Unlike his predecessors in the Imperial Family, he did not receive a commission as an Army officer, at the request of his father, Hirohito.

His Majesty Emperor Akihito, 82 years old, and 81-year-old Empress Michiko got married in April 1959. The two met during a tennis tournament at Karuizawa in 1957, where the then commoner Michiko emerged victorious against Akihito’s team. The Kyoto Imperial Palace was the home of the Japanese Emperor from the late 12th century until 1869. You can see several impressive art works in addition to the buildings, which have been rebuilt several times over the centuries. The most recent palace was rebuilt in 1855 after a fire. The area is in the middle of the Kyoto Imperial Park, which itself used to have residences of high court nobles near the Emperor. Next to it is also the Sento Imperial Palace, a former retirement villa. Formerly the only way to see the Imperial Palace was through a one hour, led by the nose tour from the Imperial Household Agency, and twice a year with the freedom of just walking in. But today you do not need the tour, although they are also available. Entrance is free but you cannot actually enter the bu...

On March 28, 2002, I went on an English-speaking tour of the Kyoto Imperial Palace which served as the official residence of the Japanese emperor and his family until it was moved to Tokyo at the start of the Meiji era in 1868. This 23-minute video captures highlights of that tour. In a few cases, I included captions for a few of the palace structures that were different from what was provided by the tour guide. In 1495 a new disease hit Europe. It was deadly, devastating and attacked those who were promiscuous, well-heeled and well-travelled. But what was Syphilis and where had it come from? The traditional view has been that syphilis was part of "the Columbian exchange" – one of the things, along with tobacco and the potato, that the New World gave the Old. Arriving in Spain in the 1490s with Columbus and his crew, this destructive new plague spread quickly across Europe, leaving no country, no city, no royal household untouched. But what if this assumption is wrong? There is evidence of syphilis in skeletons dug from sites in France, Italy and England. Bones found in a medieval graveyard in Hull show signs of the ravages of syphilis. But if syphilis was present in Europe before Columbus went to...

The PMR (Personal Mobile Radio) service is a European standard for licence free chanelised walkie talkies. The standard is simple, it uses 8 frequencies, the radios are cheap and power is limited to 500mW. It is virtually identical to the US Family Radio Service (FRS) except that it uses a slightly different set of frequencies. One issue with PMR is that the radios use pretty rubbish rubber ducky type antennas and as a type approved system they cannot be user replaced. Rubber duck antennas are a compromise antenna. In order for them to be smaller and durable they waste some transmission power. In this video I will show you how to replace the supplied rubber ducky antenna with a much better dipole for improved receive performance. This will also improve transmit performance, but don't use...
