Canterbury (i/ˈkæntərbri/, /-bəri/, or /-bɛri/) is a historic English cathedral city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, which lies at the heart of the City of Canterbury, a local government district of Kent in the United Kingdom. It lies on the River Stour.
The Archbishop of Canterbury is the primate of the Church of England and the worldwide Anglican Communion owing to the importance of St Augustine, who served as the apostle to the pagan Kingdom of Kent around the turn of the 7th century. The city's cathedral became a major focus of pilgrimage following the 1170 martyrdom of Thomas Becket. A journey of pilgrims to his shrine served as the frame for Geoffrey Chaucer's 14th-century classic The Canterbury Tales.
Canterbury is a popular tourist destination: consistently one of the most-visited cities in the United Kingdom, the city's economy is heavily reliant upon tourism. The city has been occupied since Paleolithic times and served as the capital of the Celtic Cantiaci and Jute Kingdom of Kent. Many historical structures fill the area, including a city wall founded in Roman times and rebuilt in the 14th century, the ruins of St Augustine's Abbey and a Norman castle, and the oldest extant school in the world, The King's School. Modern additions include the Marlowe Theatre and the St Lawrence Ground, home of the Kent County Cricket Club. There is also a substantial student population, brought about by the presence of the University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University, the University for the Creative Arts, and the Girne American University Canterbury campus. Canterbury remains, however, a relatively small city in terms of geographical size, when compared with other British cities.
The Canterbury Tales (Middle English: Tales of Caunterbury) is a collection of 24 stories that runs to over 17,000 lines written in Middle English by Geoffrey Chaucer. In 1386 Chaucer became Controller of Customs and Justice of Peace and then three years later in 1389 Clerk of the King's work. It was during these years that Chaucer began working on his most famous text, The Canterbury Tales. The tales (mostly written in verse, although some are in prose) are presented as part of a story-telling contest by a group of pilgrims as they travel together on a journey from London to Canterbury in order to visit the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral. The prize for this contest is a free meal at the Tabard Inn at Southwark on their return.
After a long list of works written earlier in his career, including Troilus and Criseyde, House of Fame, and Parliament of Fowls, The Canterbury Tales is near-unanimously seen as Chaucer's magnum opus. He uses the tales and the descriptions of its characters to paint an ironic and critical portrait of English society at the time, and particularly of the Church. Chaucer's use of such a wide range of classes and types of people was without precedent in English. Although the characters are fictional, they still offer a variety of insights into the customs and practices of the time. Often, such insight leads to a variety of discussions and disagreements to people in the 14th century. For example, although a variety of social classes are represented in these stories and all pilgrims on a spiritual quest, it is apparent that they are more concerned with worldly things than spiritual. Structurally, the collection resembles The Decameron, which Chaucer may have read during his first diplomatic mission to Italy in 1372.
Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, Kent, is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site. It is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, currently Justin Welby, leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion; the archbishop, being suitably occupied with national and international matters, delegates the most of his functions as diocesan bishop to the Bishop suffragan of Dover, currently Trevor Willmott. Its formal title is the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Christ at Canterbury.
Founded in 597, the cathedral was completely rebuilt from 1070 to 1077. The east end was greatly enlarged at the beginning of the twelfth century, and largely rebuilt in the Gothic style following a fire in 1174, with significant eastward extensions to accommodate the flow of pilgrims visiting the shrine of Thomas Becket, the archbishop who was murdered in the cathedral in 1170. The Norman nave and transepts survived until the late fourteenth century, when they were demolished to make way for the present structures.

The women of France decide to work to pay his ransom. After being released, Du Guesclin goes to Spain, where he defeats the troops of the King of Navarre. Appointed Constable of France, he wages war unceasingly to rid France of the English occupiers. He dies one evening following his last victory outside Châteauneuf-de-Randon.

The Canterbury Tales (Italian: I racconti di Canterbury) is a 1972 Italian film directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini and based on the medieval narrative poem The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. It is the second film in Pasolini's "Trilogy of Life", the others being The Decameron and Arabian Nights. It won the Golden Bear at the 22nd Berlin International Film Festival. The adaptation covers eight of the 24 tales and contains abundant nudity, sex and slapstick humour. Many of these scenes are present or at least alluded to in the original as well, but some are Pasolini's own additions. The film sometimes diverges from Chaucer. For example, "The Friar's Tale" is significantly expanded upon: where the Friar leads in with a general account of the archdeacon's severity and the summoner's corr...

Eagle Video Productions has now created unique aerial footage using the EagleCam drone, which is a flying video camera, for tourists wishing to visit Canterbury to get a "birds eye view" of the Cathedral. The choir consists of 25 boy choristers between the ages of eight and thirteen, and 12 lay clerks. There has been a choir at Canterbury Cathedral for 1400 years. The camera then flies outside, up th...

Six people out in the forest never seemed like anything would go wrong
And that’s what we said. This is a one-time thing and not what we do every day, all day.
Tell me what you want me to be.
Please tell me I’m a friend for real.
Well, things are creeping up and it’s information
That I don’t really want to find out.
We are away in a dream fetching food for all.
Fearing to face what we know is upon us all.
Just empty hands on the bars of a rusty bike.
Fear in the face as our powerful minds think alike.
Six friends all out in the open, don’t you do it if you think something would go wrong.
That’s what the man said. Don’t be afraid of flames at all,
When fire’s burning, it can still burn your hands.
If it’s life at its very best
For it just to question everything you hold close to your chest.
It’s creeping up and it’s information
That I don’t really want to find out.
Oh, I think I’m about to trip and fall,
Think I’m about to lose it all.
Exposing reflections or greater aspects/expansions [?]
We should look in the mirror,
But not at the same time.
Time, it doesn’t exist at all,
I think I either lost it all
Or never found it all.
We are away in a dream fetching food for all.
Fearing to face what we know is upon us all.
Just empty hands on the bars of a rusty bike.
Fear in the face as our powerful minds think alike.
Oh, I think I’m about to trip and fall,
Think I’m about to lose it all.
Exposing reflections or greater aspects as if
We should look in the mirror
But not at the same time.
Time, it doesn’t exist at all,
I think I either lost it all
Or never found it all.
