Peru (i/pəˈruː/; Spanish: Perú [peˈɾu]; Quechua: Piruw [pɪɾʊw];Aymara: Piruw [pɪɾʊw]), officially the Republic of Peru (Spanish: República del Perú ), is a country in western South America. It is bordered in the north by Ecuador and Colombia, in the east by Brazil, in the southeast by Bolivia, in the south by Chile, and in the west by the Pacific Ocean. Peru is an extremely biodiverse country with habitats ranging from the arid plains of the Pacific coastal region in the west to the peaks of the Andes mountains vertically extending from the north to the southeast of the country to the tropical Amazon Basin rainforest in the east with the Amazon river.
Peruvian territory was home to ancient cultures spanning from the Norte Chico civilization in Caral, one of the oldest in the world, to the Inca Empire, the largest state in Pre-Columbian America. The Spanish Empire conquered the region in the 16th century and established a Viceroyalty with its capital in Lima, which included most of its South American colonies. Ideas of political autonomy later spread throughout Spanish America and Peru gained its independence, which was formally proclaimed in 1821. After the battle of Ayacucho, three years after proclamation, Peru ensured its independence. After achieving independence, the country remained in recession and kept a low military profile until an economic rise based on the extraction of raw and maritime materials struck the country, which ended shortly before the war of the Pacific. Subsequently, the country has undergone changes in government from oligarchic to democratic systems. Peru has gone through periods of political unrest and internal conflict as well as periods of stability and economic upswing.
Pedro Pablo Kuczynski Godard (born October 3, 1938), better known simply as PPK, is a Peruvian public administrator, economist, and politician. He was Prime Minister of Peru from 2005 to 2006.
Kuczynski worked in the United States before entering Peruvian politics. He served as Minister of Energy and Mines in the early 1980s under President Fernando Belaúnde Terry, and as Minister of Economy and Finance and Prime Minister under President Alejandro Toledo in the 2000s.
Kuczynski was a presidential candidate in the 2011 Peruvian presidential election, coming in third place. His opponents Ollanta Humala Tasso and Keiko Fujimori went on to the June 5, 2011 runoff election, in which Humala was elected.
Kuczynski is of Polish and Jewish descent. He is the son of Maxime Hans Kuczynski born near Poznań, who was one of the earliest public health leaders in Peru. He received his early education at Markham College in Lima, Peru, and Rossall School in Lancashire, England. He won a foundation scholarship to study at Exeter College, Oxford and graduated with a degree in politics, philosophy and economics in 1960. Later, he received the John Parker Compton fellowship to study public affairs at Princeton University in the United States, where he received a master's degree in 1961. He began his career at the World Bank in 1961 as a regional economist for six countries in Central America, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Spanish/Nat The presidents of Peru and of Ecuador have met in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires to discuss the decades-old border dispute between the two countries. The two held meetings at the private residence of their host, President Carlos Menem. Afterwards, the leaders spoke positively of the reunion and expressed the hope that a solution would be found in the not too distant future. Ecuador's Jamil Mahuad arrived first for his audience with President Carlos Menem in the Argentinian leader's private residence. Top of the agenda was the 50-year long border dispute between Peru and Ecuador. The conflict dates back to 1941 when the two countries fought a war along the Pacific coast at a time when their jungle border was undefined. Earlier this month, both leaders...
At the age of 77, former World Bank economist Pedro Pablo Kuczynski is taking on the presidency of Peru. The technocrat is to steer the country through the next five years - a term in which he hopes to breathe new life into Peru's ailing economy. The challenge facing the ex-prime minister is no mean feat. His election victory rested on a slender majority of just 41,000 votes over right-leaning opponent Keiko Fujimori. What's more, her Popular Force Party "gained an absolute majority in Peru'… READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2016/07/28/pedro-pablo-kuczynski-peru-s-new-president-faces-plethora-of-problems What are the top stories today? Peru – a land of extremes and intrigue – principally known for being home to the most important archaeological site in all of the Americas, offers in reality so much more. Its landscapes range from high Andean peaks, to sultry Amazon rainforests, from high altitude deserts and wild windswept coasts. Of course its great to travel with the Incas from Cusco to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu, but its also possible to get off the beaten track, to explore remote ruins of the cloud warriors in the north, or afro-Peruvian beats along the pacific coast. Most of all it’s a diverse country that offers something for everyone. But for many, a trip to Peru will begin in Cusco. As the ancient Inca capital, and the political power base in colonial times, Cusco has its fair share of sites. Sitting in a na...

In Cusco, and the Sacred Valley, magnificent ruins await the adventurous traveler. The most famous of all is Machu Picchu. Cusco is the former capital of the Inca Empire of the Sun. Since the 16th century, Spanish colonial buildings were built atop former Inca Palaces, of which only the foundations remain. Examples in the central Plaza de Armas are the Cusco Cathedral and La Compañia church. Another striking example is Qorikancha, the former golden courtyard of the Temple of the Sun. The Spanish used stones from Sacsayhuaman, an Inca stronghold overlooking the city. In the Urubamba Valley, or Sacred Valley, visitors can see the mysterious Moray Terraces and the pre-Inca Salt Mines of Maras. Ollantaytambo is a living Inca city and its towering ruins form the start of the Inca Trail to Ma...

https://www.expedia.com/Lima.d178277.Destination-Travel-Guides Lima gives access to the mystical city of Machu Picchu in the Andes, Lake Titicaca in the highlands, the lush Amazon jungle and Peru’s coastal desert. But, before you go to see all of this, it’s worth exploring the capital first. Just like Peru’s landscapes, Lima is a city of contrasts: rich and poor, ancient and modern, practical and elegant, fascinating and entertaining. In Lima’s Historic Center is the Plaza de Armas, also known as the Plaza Mayor. This is where the Spanish explorer founded Lima and the Lima Cathedral, contains the tomb of Francisco Pizarro. Next door, the Government Palace is still the official seat of government today. Outside of the city center are many more visitor attractions. The Bajada de los Baños...

Peru is hands down my most favorite country in South America. There's so much to do here other than Machu Picchu. First I started off going to the other old cities in the North in Trujillo, spend a few days relaxing in Huachaco, and then a full blown hiking and climbing mountains in Huaraz for 2 weeks. Huaraz is by far the best place to do alpine trekking and mountaineering second to only the Himalayas. The alpines here are stunning and not too difficult to climb. In Huaraz, I went to Laguna 69, summited Mateo, trekked Santa Cruz independently and went way up to 5000m to see a glacier. I could spend like a month just in Huaraz. It's like a little Kathmandu here but with much less tourists! After Huaraz, I went down to Huacachina for some rest time, went up into the sky in Ica to see the...

I didn't know much about Ecuador except the Galapagos islands so as I arrived in Quito, my initial planned was to be in the country for 2 weeks and move on to Peru. What I did not realize though was the how much more to Ecuador than it is advertise. Did you know that there are more bird species in Ecaudor than in North America and Europe combined!? Did you know that Ecuador has one of the most concentrated numbers of volcano in an area!? Did you know that there are so many volcanos here, you can be busy hiking them for weeks!? Did you know that you can go off and hike 3 - 4 volcanoes right from Quito and came back and sleep in the city? Me neither! Ecuador is truly a hikers' and nature lover's paradise! Instead of spending only 2 weeks, I spent a whole month traveling around Ecuador. I ...

This Spanish colonial city in the northern desert of Peru is a vibrant place, with colorful architecture and proud Latino traditions. The surrounding desert coast is dotted with the ancient ruins of lost civilizations. Some 2,000 years ago, long before the first Incas arrived, the Moche people and later the Chimú, managed to cultivate the arid Moche Valley and build thriving cities such as Chan Chan, made entirely from adobe bricks. These pre-Columbian civilizations also created the mighty Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon, wove reed boats for fishing, dug canals for irrigation and designed refined jewelry and pottery.
