Mount Eden

Mount Eden is a suburb in Auckland, New Zealand whose name honours George Eden, 1st Earl of Auckland. It is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) south of the Central Business District (CBD). Mt Eden Road winds its way around the side of Mount Eden Domain and continues to weave back and forth as it descends into the valley; it runs south from Eden Terrace to Three Kings. Mt Eden village centre is located roughly between Valley Road and Grange Road. The domain is accessible on foot from many of the surrounding streets, and by vehicle from Mt Eden Road. The central focus of the suburb is Maungawhau / Mount Eden, a dormant volcano whose summit is the highest natural point on the Auckland isthmus.

History

Pre-European

In pre-European times Mount Eden was utilised as a fortified hill pa by various Māori tribes. The pa is thought to have been abandoned around 1700 AD after conflict between the resident Waiohua people and the Hauraki tribes The earth ramparts and terraces from this period contribute to the distinctive outline of the hill today.

Mt Eden (band)

Mt Eden (also known as Mt. Eden and formerly named Mt Eden Dubstep) are a dubstep and edm production duo from New Zealand consisting of Jesse Cooper and Harley Rayner. Mt Eden's most well-known songs are their original "Sierra Leone" (a remix of Freshlyground's "I'd Like"), Mt Eden remix of Delerium's "Silence" and Lisa Miskovsky's "Still Alive" which is currently their most viewed song on YouTube with more than 40 million views combined, however, previous uploads of "Sierra Leone" have reached over 29 million views before being removed.

Mt Eden started gaining popularity when their remix of Freshlyground's "I'd Like", "Sierra Leone", went viral on YouTube in 2009. They currently have 100 million combined video views and over 235 thousand subscribers on their YouTube channel, as well as more than 325,047 "likes" on their Facebook page.
Mt Eden is currently signed with Ultra Music for a multi-album record deal.

Ruby Frost

Ruby Frost (born 1987) (born Jane de Jong) is a New Zealand singer and songwriter from Auckland. In 2009, she won the nationwide music competition MTV 42Unheard, giving her a recording contract with Universal Music New Zealand. Since then she has performed showcases at CMJ in New York and The Viper Room in LA; toured with Mt Eden, Cut Copy, Evermore and Van She; and opened for acts including Diplo, Nero, Kimbra, Digitalism and Garbage. She was one of the four judges in season one of The X Factor NZ, and was the runner-up mentor when her act Whenua Patuwai came second in the competition.

Early singles

In December 2011, Ruby Frost released her debut single "Moonlight" on bFM, which went to #1 and stayed in the radio station's top 10 for 10 consecutive weeks. The accompanying video was directed by Veronica Crockford-Pound.

Ruby Frost's song "O That I Had" (off her debut, self-released EP) was remixed by Mt Eden in 2010, receiving over one million views on YouTube
