" Arbeitskreis fuer Heimat-, Denkmal- und Geschichtspflege" can be translated to the English language as "Work Group for the Cultivation of Local History, Heritage and Monuments". It is a private association that is supported by the rural community of St.Georgen/Gusen and focuses in a large extent on commemorational endeavors on the former KL Gusen I, II & III concentration camps. It is currently the only group actively working on the commemoration of this complex.
The KZ Mauthausen-GUSEN mirror provides comprehensive general information about the largest, most brutal concentration camp complex on Austrian territory.
The complex has been forgotten because
of its high mortality, the neighborhood of the Mauthausen central camp
and the exploitation of the installations by Allied troops in the years
after liberation. The knowledge presented about that forgotten KL Gusen
I, II & III camps is re-collected in an international endeavor by
survivors as well as those living in the shadow of the former camps.
It should provide a basis for further research activities worldwide.
