Rheinmetall MG 3
The MG 3 is a German general-purpose machine gun chambered for the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge. The weapon's design is derived from the World War II era MG 42 universal machine gun that fired the 7.92×57mm Mauser round.
The MG 3 was standardized in the late 1950s and adopted into service with the newly formed Bundeswehr, where it continues to serve to this day as a squad support weapon and a vehicle-mounted machine gun. The weapon and its derivatives have also been acquired by the armed forces of over 30 countries. Production rights to the machine gun were purchased by Italy (MG 42/59), Spain, Pakistan (MG 1A3), Greece, Iran, Sudan and Turkey.
History
Production of the first postwar variant of the MG 42 chambered in a standard NATO caliber (designated the MG 1) was launched in 1958 at the Rheinmetall arms factory as requested by the Bundeswehr. Shortly thereafter, the machine gun was modified, receiving a chrome-lined barrel and sights properly calibrated for the new round; this model would be named the MG 1A1 (known also as the MG 42/58).

MG 3
The MG 3 is a supermini car produced by the Chinese company MG Motor in two generations from 2008 onwards. The first generation, marketed as the MG 3 SW, is based on the British-made Rover Streetwise, which itself was similar to the Rover 25, while the second generation introduced in 2011 is marketed simply as the MG 3 and is based on a new platform.
First generation
The first generation MG 3 SW is essentially a rebadged version of the Rover Streetwise, which had ceased production in April 2005 after the bankruptcy of predecessor organisation MG Rover. It started production in 2008 at SAIC's Chinese factory in Pukou, Nanjing.
The MG 3 SW is only on sale in the Chinese market and cannot be exported by SAIC.
Second generation
The new MG 3 was showcased at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show in the form of the MG Zero concept car. The new model uses an all-new automotive platform with a wheelbase of 2.5 m, featuring MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear axle. The development work took place in the United Kingdom, with production initially in China. The car went on sale in China in the spring of 2011. Engine options at launch consist of a choice of 1.3 (1343 cc) and 1.5-litre (1498 cc), rated at 68 kW (91 bhp) and 80 kW (107 bhp) respectively, with either a five-speed manual transmission or an Italian AMT transmission called e-shift. The MG3 supermini has a low insurance (group 4E) and over a million personalisation options.

MG3’s latest hatchback rolls up with a super cheap starting price of just £18,000! The question is, if you’re looking for a budget car as your next set of wheels, should you consider it over other affordable options like the Dacia Duster?
For starters, let’s check out the design. On the outside, the MG3 is relatively smart. There is nothing too outlandish or unique about it, but it looks pretty appealing. There’s a large opening in the lower part of the front end, and along the side there are creases to give it some definition. There’s also a set of smart taillights at the back. It may not be that unique, but it’s certainly not offensive in any way.
However, unlike the exterior, the interior is far more unique. Given the price it’s still fairly well built, with leatherette included across the dash and other cabin areas. There may be some scratchy plastic when you reach a bit lower, but it’s to be expected on a car that is so affordable. There’s an infotainment screen on the centre of the dash and some physical buttons, and the seats are pretty comfortable, too.
When it comes to performance, there’s only one option available. It’s a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine coupled with an electric motor. It’s not a conventional set-up, with the petrol engine largely used to power the motor. However, all you need to know is that it can produce 194hp, and hit 60mph in just 8 seconds.
There are two trim levels to choose from, and the top-of-the-range car costs just £21,000! So is it a must-buy? Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

When the Bundeswehr was formed, it chose to simply continue using the MG42 as its standard GPMG. This was initially done by converting older MG42s to 7.62x51mm NATO as the MG1 (adopted in 1958), but progressed to production of a brand new version of the gun by Rheinmetall (adopted in 1968). The MG3 included improvements to the belt feed system, added integral antiaircraft sights, and allowed a rate of fire between 700 and 1300 rpm depending on the choice in bolt, buffer and booster. It was the standard German MG until finally being replaced by the MG5 in 2012 - and it is/was in use by nearly 4 dozen other countries as well. Today we are going to compare this transferrable, C&R; MG3 to an original MG42 to see the improvements that were made.

This is the all-new MG3!
MG3’s latest hatchback rolls up with a super cheap starting price of just £18,000! The question is, if you’re looking for a budget car as your next set of wheels, should you consider it over other affordable options like the Dacia Duster?
For starters, let’s check out the design. On the outside, the MG3 is relatively smart. There is nothing too outlandish or unique about it, but it looks pretty appealing. There’s a large opening in the lower part of the front end, and along the side there are creases to give it some definition. There’s also a set of smart taillights at the back. It may not be that unique, but it’s certainly not offensive in any way.
However, unlike the exterior, the interior is far more unique. Given the price it’s still fairly well built, with leatherette included across the dash and other cabin areas. There may be some scratchy plastic when you reach a bit lower, but it’s to be expected on a car that is so affordable. There’s an infotainment screen on the centre of the dash and some physical buttons, and the seats are pretty comfortable, too.
When it comes to performance, there’s only one option available. It’s a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine coupled with an electric motor. It’s not a conventional set-up, with the petrol engine largely used to power the motor. However, all you need to know is that it can produce 194hp, and hit 60mph in just 8 seconds.
There are two trim levels to choose from, and the top-of-the-range car costs just £21,000! So is it a must-buy? Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

If we're being honest, this could be the best value car in the market today. Starting at under P700,000, and topping out at just under P1,100,000, the MG 3 is a fine little hatchback for the price, but wait, there's more. The top of the line variant comes with a hybrid system. Not only will it be coding free until 2030, but it'll also return some amazing fuel economy, or so we're told. Rheinmetall MG 3
The MG 3 is a German general-purpose machine gun chambered for the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge. The weapon's design is derived from the World War II era MG 42 universal machine gun that fired the 7.92×57mm Mauser round.
The MG 3 was standardized in the late 1950s and adopted into service with the newly formed Bundeswehr, where it continues to serve to this day as a squad support weapon and a vehicle-mounted machine gun. The weapon and its derivatives have also been acquired by the armed forces of over 30 countries. Production rights to the machine gun were purchased by Italy (MG 42/59), Spain, Pakistan (MG 1A3), Greece, Iran, Sudan and Turkey.
History
Production of the first postwar variant of the MG 42 chambered in a standard NATO caliber (designated the MG 1) was launched in 1958 at the Rheinmetall arms factory as requested by the Bundeswehr. Shortly thereafter, the machine gun was modified, receiving a chrome-lined barrel and sights properly calibrated for the new round; this model would be named the MG 1A1 (known also as the MG 42/58).
