Police investigate human remains found in Queensland drain

Police have set up a crime scene in central Queensland after human remains were found in a stormwater drain.

Police have closed off Gladstone Benaraby Road at Toolooa, just south of Gladstone, after council workers discovered the remains in a drain off the road just after 8am.

A police spokesman said they were treating the remains as human and had set up a crime scene in the area.

Police were in the process of putting a camera into the stormwater drain to evaluate the scene.

It is understood forensic officers would attempt to extract the body from the drain today, police said.
