WSOR may refer to:
The Wisconsin and Southern Railroad (reporting mark WSOR) is a Class II regional railroad in southern Wisconsin and northeastern Illinois. It operates former Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) and Chicago and North Western Transportation Company (C&NW) trackage, mostly acquired by the state of Wisconsin in the 1980s.
Within Wisconsin, WSOR connects with four western Class I railroads: BNSF Railway, Canadian National Railway, Canadian Pacific Railway and Union Pacific Railroad. Through trackage rights over Metra, WSOR accesses Chicago to connect with the two eastern Class I railroads, CSX Transportation and the Norfolk Southern Railway. WSOR also has access to harbor facilities in Prairie du Chien, and transload facilities are located in Milwaukee, Janesville, Madison, and Oshkosh. 22 grain elevators have located rail load-out facilities on the WSOR system.
For train operation purposes, the WSOR system is divided into two divisions, the Northern Division and the Southern Division. The Northern Division is essentially the original WSOR trackage from 1980, with a few new lines that have been added around the Milwaukee area since the 1990s. It includes the line northwest from Milwaukee to Horicon, where it splits into branches to Cambria and Oshkosh, as well as a line from Milwaukee north to Kiel. The Southern Division includes the lines acquired from the Wisconsin and Calumet Railroad in 1992, centered on Madison and Janesville, as well as several lines acquired in the 1990s in the Madison area. The two divisions are not physically connected with WSOR owned trackage, but trackage rights over a short section of Wisconsin Central Ltd. from Waukesha to Slinger provide a link between the two divisions.
The Thornapple River (GNIS ID #1075813) is an 88.1-mile-long (141.8 km)tributary of Michigan's longest river, the Grand River. The Thornapple rises in Eaton County, Michigan and drains a primarily rural farming area in Central Michigan. It joins the Grand in Ada, Michigan, 10 miles (16 km) east of Grand Rapids.
The Thornapple, a major Grand River tributary, is about 88 miles (142 km) long. Its headwaters are located about 7 miles (11 km) east of Charlotte, Michigan in Eaton County's Eaton township (only 7 miles (11 km) west of the Grand River at Eaton Rapids). It flows generally west and north through Eaton and Barry counties, before entering the Grand in Kent County. The Grand ultimately flows into Lake Michigan at Grand Haven, approximately 70 miles (110 km) down stream. The Thornapple is described as "An easygoing stream that meanders through low southwest Michigan woodlands." The Thornapple itself has a major tributary in the Coldwater River. The Thornapple is the only major left tributary of the Grand River.
31 March 2017 - Janesville, Wisconsin Wisconsin & Southern Roundhouse Tour Inside the old roundhouse in the WSOR yard in Janesville, WI, mechanical know-how keeps the railroad on the move. Today, the shop crew gives a tour to the next generation of railroaders from Michigan Technological University's Railroad Engineering and Activities Club (REAC). First up, an overview of an SD40-2, in the shop to have its wheels cut back to the desired profile. What are the main parts of a diesel-electric locomotive? What makes the engine so robust? Those questions and more, in this 502nd episode of the Thornapple River Rail Series. NOTE: this film was taken and published with the permission of the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad. All individuals on the tour wore proper PPE and had authorization to ...
WAMX 4174 leads a quartet of WAMX SD40-2s and 100 loads of grain down the CP's C&M; Sub and pass the Milwaukee Airport Amtrak Depot on a warm but breezy Wisconsin spring morning. It was neat that All 4 units were painted in WSOR's great red and grey scheme and all 100 cars were the new 5201 cu.ft capacity.
The WSOR L463 Madison to Reedsburg job has a hefty train in tow as they clatter through Waunakee, then pause to set out a covered hopper for the Landmark Services Co-op in Dane. Then they pass under a road bridge in Lodi with friendly waves from the crew, and lastly are seen crossing County Highway J just north of Lodi. I tried to get them at the Lake Wisconsin bridge, but the ferry took so long they were already most of the way across by the time I was ready to set up.
WSOR CEO Bill Gardner commissioned this retrospective look at WSOR's first 30 years of service and what it has meant for Wisconsin business and citizens in honor of WSOR's hundreds of employees. The program was first shown at an employee luncheon December 18, 2010.
I went out with a few friends to catch a rare daylight run of a 33 hour late WSOR train. The day before the train got screwed over by CP and was stuck for another day. Good thing a crew which me and my friends knew so we managed to get some nice horn action from them. The leader was WAMX 4223, Taken 12/21/16.
WSOR unit grain train Eastbound on the Canadian Pacific C&M; Sub coming through the Milwaukee Intermodal Station a little after 10:00 am on 2/9/2017.
Every year or so, WSOR and Operation Lifesaver run a demonstration train in the Madison area so local media and law enforcement can see firsthand the kind of idiocy train crews have to deal with on a daily basis. We get two examples on video in the very first shot. First, a truck stops under the gate on University Bay Drive and has to back up fast as it comes down on the cab. Then, the guy with the backpack strolls across the tracks nowhere near a crossing, with an approaching train in sight. Both locomotives on the train are unique on the WSOR system. Leading westbound is WAMX 4219, an SD40 built for CP in 1966 and upgraded to SD40-2 standards. It was brought onto WSOR rails by parent company Watco just a few weeks ago. The second runby is at the depot in Middleton, near the end of the...

Wisconsin & Southern has moved about 16 of these "Windmill" trains from Janesville (received from the UP) to Cambria, WI, transporting wind turbine parts for a wind farm under construction near Cambria. The parts are unloaded and trucked to their final site. This particular train was about 6300 feet long and consisted entirely of blades. East of Palmyra, the train encountered a severe thunderstorm that later caused damage in the Milwaukee area.
31 March 2017 - Janesville, Wisconsin Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Wheel Changeout Steel wheels on steel rails is a great way to move a lot of freight, but those wheels better be circular! From time to time, wheels must be changed out due to defects, particularity for flat spots. Usually the result of the car being dragged with the brakes still applied, the spots are cause for concern as they can do damage to track and lead to wheel failures. For this two-bay covered hopper, a wheel impact detector, a high-tech piece of wayside defect detection, caught it leaving Chicago thumping along. So when the car arrived at the Wisconsin & Southern's Janesville yard, it was kicked to the repair track for a new set of wheels. Watch as the carmen show off the wheel replacement process to the next...
I?ve sworn, my love
I?ve been reborn, my love
Don?t be forlorn, my love
I?ve torn my heart
Do not mourn my depart
I?ve been reborn, my love
I'm watching you
There's nothing they can do
Now, I'm reborn, my love
Yeah, you must believe
You?ll live on without me
I?m leaving all my love
I am awake and you are only dreaming
You?ll be okay and you will find some meaning
You will not break, though, you'll buckle with feelings
I am awake and you are only dreaming
Don?t fear my friend 'cause there is no real end
I?ve been reborn, my love
I?m happy here, I have nothing to fear
I?m getting all the love, oh, yeah
So, shed a tear for all the happy years
And just move on, my love
I?ll ride this crowd and when your time comes 'round
We?ll need all our love
I am awake and you are only dreaming
You?ll be okay and you will find some meaning
You will not break, though, you'll buckle with feelings
I am awake and you are only dreaming
I am awake and you are only dreaming
You?ll be okay and you will find some meaning
You will not break, though, you'll buckle with feelings
