Vampire Weekend is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 2006. They are currently signed to XL Recordings. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Ezra Koenig, drummer and percussionist Chris Tomson and bassist and backing vocalist Chris Baio. The band's first album Vampire Weekend (2008) – which included the singles "Mansard Roof", "A-Punk", "Oxford Comma", "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" and "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance" – was acclaimed by critics for its world music influences. Their following album, Contra (2010), was similarly acclaimed and garnered strong commercial success. Their third studio album, Modern Vampires of the City (2013), won the group a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2014.
The band members met while enrolled at Columbia University, beginning with a rap collaboration between Koenig and Tomson named "L'Homme Run". They bonded over a shared love of punk rock and African music, and Koenig toured with The Dirty Projectors during a period of experimentation with African music, inspiring the band to incorporate world sounds into their earliest work. The band chose the name "Vampire Weekend" from the title of a short film project Koenig worked on during the summer between freshman and sophomore years in college. While home for the summer, Koenig watched a 1980s vampire film (The Lost Boys) and was inspired to make a Northeastern version of the film in which a man named Walcott travels to Cape Cod to warn the mayor that vampires are attacking the United States. Koenig abandoned the project after two days. The band began playing shows around Columbia University, starting with a battle of the bands at Lerner Hall. After graduating from college, the band self-produced their debut album while simultaneously working full-time jobs, Tomson as a music archivist and Koenig as a middle school English teacher.

This is a custom made video (not the official music video). The song is Diplomat's Son by Vampire Weekend, and clips are from the short film 'The Disco Years' (directed and produced by Robert Lee King). The second half is a little out of sync, but the rest of the video seems to fit. This is my first time using windows movie maker to make a full video (it took me forever and although the editing is not the greatest thing ever, I enjoyed putting these two things together). This video had to be made because I'm just obsessed with this song because of how the tune fit the lyrics and the theme perfectly. Also turn the subtitles on if you want to know what is being said at around 4:30

The Big Guava music festival was thrown by Live Nation at the Florida State Fairgrounds this spring. We set up several ambient projection systems and interactive visual stations throughout the park. We also had the opportunity to animate some of Bean Spence's original artwork. The event was very well organized featuring hammocks across the grounds, ping pong tables, huge inflatable artwork installations, interesting vendors, bars, and a full midway which was free for all patrons. The lineup included Outkast, Foster the People, Cake, Slightly stoopid, Vampire Weekend, The Violent Femmes, Girl Talk, and many more great musical acts.

In 1897, Bram Stoker penned his gothic novel Dracula and popularized the modern vampire myth with the introduction of Count Dracula. But the discovery of manuscripts dating back to medieval England suggest the belief that the dead could rise from the grave originated during a much earlier era. These accounts were written hundreds of years before Stoker created his nocturnal creature, long before the Eastern European legends gained popularity.
Their name sounds like a Goth band, but Vampire Weekend has a history of not being what they seem -- four Ivy League-educated musicians who write brainy songs that are also infectious. Anthony Mason visits the group whose latest album has debuted at number one.

It’s not right but it’s now or never
And if I wait could I ever forgive myself?
On a night when the moon glows yellow in the riptide
With the light from the TVs buzzing in the house
Cuz I’m gonna cut it where I can
And then I’m gonna duck out behind them
If I ever had a chance it’s now then
But I never had the feeling I could offer that to you
To offer it to you would be cruel
When all I want to do is use, use you
He was a diplomat’s son
It was ‘81
Dressed in white with my car keys hidden in the kitchen
I could sleep wherever I lay my head
And the sight of your two shoes sitting in the bathtub
Let me know that I shouldn’t give up just yet
Cuz I’m gonna take it from Simon
And then I’m gonna duck out behind them
If I ever had a chance it’s now then
But I never had the feeling I could offer that to you
To offer it to you would be cruel
When all I want to do is use, use you
He was a diplomat’s son
It was ‘81
I know, you’ll say
I’m not doing it right
But this is how I want it
I can’t go back
To how I felt before—
That night I smoked a joint
With my best friend
We found ourselves in bed
When I woke up he was gone
He was the diplomat’s son
It was ‘81
Looking out at the ice-cold water all around me
I can’t feel any traces of that other place
In the dark when the wind comes racing off the river
