The Art Institute of Chicago (AIC) is an encyclopedic art museum located in Chicago's Grant Park. It features a collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art in its permanent collection. Its holdings also include American art, Old Masters, European and American decorative arts, Asian art, Islamic art, Ancient classical and Egyptian art, modern and contemporary art, and architecture and industrial and graphic design. In addition, it houses the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries.
Tracing its history to a free art school and gallery founded in 1866, the museum is located at 111 South Michigan Avenue in the Chicago Landmark Historic Michigan Boulevard District. It is associated with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is overseen by Director and President Douglas Druick. It is one of the most visited art museums in the world with about 1.5 million visitors annually (2013), and with one million square feet in eight buildings, it is the second-largest art museum in the United States, after the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Art (sometimes stylised as THEART) are an Australian Alternative Rock band based in Sydney. They began performing under the name The Follow in 2004. Tasmanian band leader Azaria Byrne was known as an unsuccessful contestant on the reality television series Popstars.
Early highlights for the band's career have been supporting successful bands such as the Pixies, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Sonic Youth and Thirty Seconds to Mars as late as 2010, however this was marred by the crowd booing and calls to "get off the stage".
As band leader Azaria Byrne enters middle age success has so far eluded him despite media attention resulting from his being cuckolded by the even older fading celebrity Bill Corgan.
The other band members have all been described as "dull" but this could also be a result of the attention seeking behavior of their singer.

Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts – artworks, expressing the author's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. In their most general form these activities include the production of works of art, the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art.
The oldest form of art are visual arts, which include creation of images or objects in fields including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other visual media. Architecture is often included as one of the visual arts; however, like the decorative arts, it involves the creation of objects where the practical considerations of use are essential—in a way that they usually are not in a painting, for example. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of art or the arts. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences. In modern usage after the 17th century, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, the fine arts are separated and distinguished from acquired skills in general, such as the decorative or applied arts.

According to John Hughes, the scene at the Art Institute of Chicago was "a self-indulgent scene of mine—which was a place of refuge for me, I went there quite a bit, I loved it. I knew all the paintings, the building. This was a chance for me to go back into this building and show the paintings that were my favorite." The museum had not been shot in, until the producers of the film approached them. "I remember Hughes saying, 'There are going to be more works of art in this movie than there have ever been before,'" recalled Jennifer Grey "And then this picture (Georges Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte), which I always thought this painting was sort of like making a movie," explained Hughes. The Art Institute has much to be thankful for this year—wonderful exhibitions, the largest gift of art in the museum's history, another TripAdvisor accolade, and the continued support of you, our members and visitors. This year we also celebrate the tenure of our director, Douglas Druick, who recently announced his retirement after 30 years at the museum, first as a curator and then, for the past four years, as president and director. We mark the occasion with this special tribute. Happy holidays from all of us here at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Museums are complex organizations, although most people don't realize or recognize this fact. Most museums combine a number of business models within one operation and consider both mission- and financially driven objectives in everyday decision-making. What's more, museums face significant headwinds, such as increasing costs and an uncertain economic environment. In this session, you'll hear how the Art Institute of Chicago (ARTIC) has leveraged Alteryx to grow attendance and operating revenue through more informed decision-making, strengthened operations to share more of its collection online, and understand its audiences with the aid of machine learning. Through specific examples of the museum's successes, failures, and efforts in-between, you'll gain relevant insight into how to introd...

Wednesday, October 19, 2016 Society of Contemporary Art Painter and photographer Barkley L. Hendricks offered a lecture about his work from the 1960s through to the present. Exploring issues of race, gender, and identity through bold, life-sized portraits, primarily of African Americans, Hendricks elevates images of his neighbors, family, friends, and acquaintances into an empowered iconic status by emphasizing their unique style, attitude, and individuality. His early portraits are often associated with cultural upheaval in the 60s and 70s, but Hendricks explains, “My paintings were about people that were part of my life. If they were political, it’s because they were a reflection of the culture we were drowning in.” His cool, empowering, and sometimes confrontational representations are...

Stringed puppets dancing,
Drawing flies to the stench
Flesh impaled with wires
Sick, amusing, painful play
Imagination, evisceration
A morbid show
With blood on the wall
Hear people’s call
Chant and applaud
Caged in mocked misery
And audience with bleeding taste
Pulling strings, open sores
Come in,
Come in and catch the art
Barbed wire, embracing like fire
Deforming architecture
Endless desires, clawing pyre
Like a living dissection
Closing ecstasy, a fevered burning plague
Temptations lost control,
Rips apart the victims whole
Artistic patterns remain
Like a puzzle in its chaos start
