Validity - Does your measuring instrument measure, what it is supposed to measure? (Psychology)
Using bad measuring instruments can have disastrous consequences. Therefore newly developed tests, questionaires, etc. have to meet the highest standards. Along with reliability and objectivity validity is one of the most important quality criteria. An instrument is regarded as valid, if it measures, what it is supposed to measure. For example: A (supposed) intelligence test which measures creativity or sustained attention may be reliable, but it is not valid. In this episode we will discuss the different methods to validate a measuring instrument: - face validtiy - criterion validity - predictive - postdictive - construct validity - discriminant construct validity - concurrent construct validity Keywords: psychology - validity - construct validity - criterion validity - predictive validity - creativity - intelligence - test anxiety - multitrait multimethod - concurrent validity - discriminant validity - face validity - conscientiousness - personality tests - Rorschach - diagnostics - measuring instrument - reliability- published: 12 Mar 2014

Patrick Belling Assessing perceptual-cognitive skill in soccer online
The focus of this presentation will be on the methods used by the Online Assessment of Strategic Skill In Soccer (OASSIS). In addition to reviewing the methods, I will explain how the final three experiments of my thesis contributed to the validity of the OASSIS as a psychometric. I will demonstrate criterion validity, concurrent validity, and convergent validity for the OASSIS. Next, I will compare other potential predictors of skill in soccer with performance on the OASSIS, namely the Berlin Numeracy Test (BNT), Mental Rotation Test (MRT), and a questionnaire of declarative knowledge in soccer. The results suggest that OASSIS is superior to domain-general cognitive tests (i.e., BNT, MRT), but not the domain-specific knowledge test.- published: 14 Feb 2014

Multiple Choice Answers
http://trustedanswers.blogspot.in/2013/11/multiple-choice-answers_9129.html Dr. Brown finds that results from different methods used to assess the same trait are highly correlated and results from different methods used to assess different traits are not significantly correlated. These results demonstrate which two types of validity respectively? A test that measures knowledge of a specific topic is considered what type of test? Which assessment technique is used in field work? Which of the following is NOT a component of a multiple choice question? Name a multiple choice item which provides a plausible but wrong answer. Which of the following is an example of poor characteristics of a questionnaire? Which of the following is a reason you need to be cautious when observing behavior? A good cover letter for a survey questionnaire has all but one of the following characteristics listed below. Which is NOT a characteristic of a good cover letter? Which measure would be used to describe how far a test score is from the average test score? In a set of scores with a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 5, what raw score is represented by a z-score of 1.00? In a set of scores with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15, what raw score is represented by a z-score of 2.00? In a normal distribution, what percentage of scores fall between the mean and a z-score of +1.00? What is another phrase used to describe a bell-shaped curve? You are interviewing classmates to find out their political party affiliation. When you pick the measure of central tendency to use in presenting your results, which should you choose? Sampling error can be defined by which of the following statements? Which of the following statements is true with respect to sample size? Which of these statements is true regarding cluster sampling? When might you need a larger sample to represent the population? David asks the first 10 freshmen he sees on campus a series of questions. This is an example of a ____________ sampling technique. Which of the following statements is false? a. Validity refers to the results of a test not the test itself. What levels of measurement define most variables in behavioral and social science research? Which one of the following is NOT an important criterion for increasing reliability? Which of the following is an example of method error? Which is the least frequently established form of reliability? What are the two types of criterion validity?- published: 22 Nov 2013
