Tripoli (Arabic: طرابلس, Ṭarābulus; Berber: Ṭrables) is the de jure capital city and the largest city of Libya. Tripoli, with its metropolitan area, has a population of about 3,200,000 million people. The city is located in the northwestern part of Libya on the edge of the desert, on a point of rocky land projecting into the Mediterranean and forming a bay.
Tripoli includes the Port of Tripoli and the country's largest commercial and manufacturing centre. It is also the site of the University of Tripoli. The vast Bab al-Azizia barracks, which includes the former family estate of Muammar Gaddafi, is also located in the city. Colonel Gaddafi largely ruled the country from his residence in this barracks.
Tripoli was founded in the 7th century BC by the Phoenicians, who named it Oea. Due to the city's long history, there are many sites of archaeological significance in Tripoli. "Tripoli" may also refer to the shabiyah (top-level administrative division in the current Libyan system), the Tripoli District.
Sam Tripoli is an American comedian, writer, producer and host currently living in Los Angeles.
He grew up in Cortland, New York, and moved to Las Vegas after high school to attend UNLV. He graduated in 1997 with a degree in Psychology.
Tripoli has said that performing and the desire to make people laugh has been in his blood since age two, and he began doing stand-up comedy in Las Vegas one night on a dare. He was soon performing in casinos with Mutiny, an improv troupe he co-founded, as well as hosting his own weekly shows on the strip.
In 2000, Tripoli moved to Los Angeles. His first break came while working the door at The Comedy Store. Owner Mitzi Shore decided to put together a Middle Eastern themed show called "Arabian Knights", and Tripoli's Armenian descent got him on the bill. He was one of only two comedians at The Comedy Store to do their first set as a paid regular in The Main Room – the other was Roseanne Barr.
In 2006, friend and fellow comedian Steve Byrne brought him along to an audition for Spike TV, which resulted in Tripoli getting cast as a co-host on the network's Wild World of Spike.
Tripoli was the capital of Italian Libya in the first half of the 20th entury. It was called Tripoli italiana in Italian language and the inhabitants were called Tripolini. Italian Tripoli was under Italian control from 1911 until January 1943: officially it disappeared in 1947 after the Peace Treaty following WWII.
During the Italo-Turkish War of 1911 Tripoli was conquered by the Italian Kingdom. The Italian fleet appeared off Ottoman Tripoli in the evening of September 28, 1911: the city was quickly conquered by 1,500 Italian sailors, welcomed by the population
By the 1912 treaty signed in Ouchy, Italian sovereignty was acknowledged by the Ottomans, although the local Caliph was permitted to exercise religious authority. Italy officially granted autonomy after the war, but gradually occupied the region of Tripolitania. Originally administered as part of a single colony, Tripoli and its surrounding province were a separate colony from 26 June 1927 to 3 December 1934, when all Italian possessions in North Africa were merged into one colony called "Italian Libya".

Sunni militants aligned with the Syrian rebels frequently clash with fighters from the city's encircled Alawite minority, who support the Assad regime, in bitter street fighting the country's weak government is powerless to stop. With the rule of law no longer in effect in Tripoli, warlords like Sunni commander Ziad Allouki are now the city's real rulers, so VICE hung out with him and his fighters for a week to discover why they're fighting, and whether the country really is on the brink of civil war. http://vicenews.com Follow VICE News here Faceboo...
Travel video about destination Tripoli in Libya. Tripoli is the capital of the desert state of Libya. The old town is known as the Medina and with its narrow lanes and squat buildings it is a combination of Arabian, North African and Mediterranean cultures. The joie de vivre of the local people is obvious and music and dance are part of their daily life. In antiquity the city was called Oea that was one of the three cities of Tripolitania and in Roman times this section of the coast contained the trading towns of Leptis Magna and Sabratha. Since 1963 Tripoli has been the capital of the Great Socialist Libyan-Arab People’s Republic. The old town contains a souk that was almost fully abandoned following the Great Revolution as private trading was then forbidden but when the law was abolis...

Thousands of displaced families living in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, fear they will never return to their homes in Benghazi. They were forced out by renegade commander General Khalifa Haftar three years ago. As Haftar has threatened to widen his military campaign towards the west, these families are also concerned about their safety in Tripoli.
Some Time in Tripoli is a simple time-lapse. Consists of a basic 7D with a timer remote, a 24-105mm lens mostly and a drive to bring media professionalism from Libya to the world. In all honest terms Libya never had any serious media. The good photography was never given proper coverage nor was any serious video. Hopefully more will come and better! Enjoy:) PS Cant recall where the track was from. If you know please send a message or leave a comment. Thank You!!

Travel video about destination Tripolitania in Libya. Tripolitania: at first sight there are few traces of this ancient and legendary place in northwest Libya but it once had three great cities, Sabratha, Leptis Magna And Oea, Tripoli, once named Oea, dates back to the 7th century B.C. when Tripoli was an important trading centre for the Carthaginians. As much as anything else it is the local plants, majestic palm trees and impressive cacti that give Tripoli its Mediterranean atmosphere. Clearly, the influence of the sea is only present close to the coast as a few kilometres inland is endless desert. An eye-catching landmark that dates back to the time of the corsairs is the Citadel in Tripoli’s harbour. The Arabs enlarged the original Byzantine complex to a fortress and for a short sp...
Travel video about destination Libya. Libya is one of the most interesting desert countries and it is gradually opening its doors to the outside world. It is a veritable treasure trove of history. Ancient art and culture of various epochs as well as the fascinating exotic flair of the Orient make Libya a wonderful and fascinating holiday destination. The capital, Tripoli, awakes early in the morning as fishermen return from their nocturnal work at sea along with their catch which is fresh and tasty and ready for market. In antiquity Tripoli was called Oea and was one of the three cities of Tripolitania. Seventy kilometres west of Tripoli and also located on the Mediterranean coast are the remains of the ancient trading town of Sabratha. Its Theatre has been rebuilt and is an impressive...
Thank you so much to my hosts in Libya for providing me with a unique and eclectic experience during my brief stay. The Ministry of Tourism meeting was truly informative and I look forward to furthering the development of tourism in Libya back to what it was before. *This video is my own personal experience in that I had in Tripoli, Liberia and only Tripoli. I stayed with a family who's home was surrounded with a tall concrete fence and barbed wire, for safety. Two of the friends who showed me around were equipped with hand guns for my safety, which made me feel very comfortable since we were out until 9pm exploring Tripoli and it's dangerous to be out at night. I did not travel around anywhere else in Libya due to the current situation and can not speak for other places. Please take thi...
Is Tripoli safe enough to visit as a tourist? In my opinion, YES. Still you might want to check with locals before visiting. Not to be confused with Tripoli - the capital of Libya, Tripoli or Trablous (the arabic name of the city) is Lebanon's second largest city after Beirut and the capital of the North Governorate. The city overlooks the eastern Mediterranean Sea and there is a string of uninhabited islands just off the coast of Tripoli. These are particularly nice to visit in the summer time, I was told. I stayed at Lamunia Wellness and Spa, a small boutique hotel in Al Qalamun where quite a few hotels are located. It is just a 10 minutes drive from the Al Mina neighbourhood and downtown Tripoli. The citadel of Raymond de Saint-Gilles is located on a hilltop overlooking the city. The c...

It's always a time well spent when it's in Tripoli. Start your day with some delicious Fatteh and Foul the traditional way. Head to El Mina, the biggest fishing port in Lebanon and take a "Flouka" ride to the islands. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, clear blue water and soft sand. Get your food, and make sure you have enough Beirut Beer to keep everyone Fresh! Head back at sunset and enjoy some Achta ice cream at one of the old arabic sweets shops. #LebaneseWanderers Videographer: Jad Rahmé Drone Photography: Maroun Geagea
