Pedro Flores born (March 9, 1894, died July 14, 1979) was one Puerto Rico's best known composers of Ballads and Boleros. Flores (birth name: Pedro Juan Flores Cordova) was one of 12 children born into a poor family in the town of Naguabo, Puerto Rico. Flores' father died when he was only nine years old and therefore, he was forced to work at a young age. When he was 16 years old, he took a special course in the University of Puerto Rico (Universidad de Puerto Rico) and received his teachers certificate. Flores taught for five years and worked for one year at a sugar mill in the island of Vieques. In 1918, he served in a clerical position in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army when he was 24 years old. n 1926, Flores went to New York without any formal musical education and joined another Puerto Rican composer, Rafael Hernandez in his "Trio Borinquen". Even though Flores and Hernandez became very good friends, they also became competitors as composers. When Flores wrote "Sin Banderas", Hernandez rushed and wrote "Preciosa". In 1930, Flores formed his own trio which he named "Trio Galon", and whose music and songs had a faster beat then the "Trio Borinquen". Flores had problems with the music publishing company and he abandoned the trio. He moved to Mexico and then lived in Cuba for a short period of time. Flores eventually returned to New York where he reorganized his "old" trio. Some of the singers of this new trio were Myrta Silva, Daniel Santos and Pedro Ortiz Davila "Davilita". Some of the songs written by Flores were: "Amor Perdido" (Lost Love), "Bajo un Palmar" (Under the Palm Tree), "Borracho no Vale" (which may translate to "Being Drunk Doesn't Count" or "A Drunk isn't Worth Anything"), "Linda", "Sin Banderas" (Without a Flag), "Despedida" (Farewell) and "Perdon" (I'm Sorry). Among those who have performed his songs are: Beny More, Los Panchos, Celia Cruz, and Maria Luisa Landin. A 1996 television special honoring his work features versions by many Puerto Rican and international artists, such as Ednita Nazario, Marc Anthony, Yolandita Monge and Shakira. PEDRO FLORES DE LA CERDA fué uno de los vocalistas más famosos del Grupo TOPPAZ, no sin antes pasar por los Grupos Laser y Monarka con el que popularizó el tema "Burbujas de Amor" ya casi finalizando la década ochentera. con Toppaz a partir de 1991 hasta alrededor de la mitad de los 90´s conocimos exitos radiales como "Esa Pared", "Mi Llamada", "Te Quiero Amor", "Prueba de Amor", "Dame Felicidad", "Magia Blanca", "Mi Buena Estrella" y "Lloremos". actualmente vuelve al escenario con su Grupo Kommpaz.

Flores
Flores is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands, an island arc with an estimated area of 14,300 km² extending east from the Java island of Indonesia. The population was 1,831,000 in the 2010 census and the largest town is Maumere. Flores is Portuguese for "flowers".
Flores is located east of Sumbawa and Komodo and west of Lembata and the Alor Archipelago. To the southeast is Timor. To the south, across the Sumba strait, is Sumba and to the north, beyond the Flores Sea, is Sulawesi.
On 12 December 1992, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale occurred, killing 2,500 people in and around Maumere, including islands off the North coast.
Homo floresiensis
In September 2003, at Liang Bua Cave in western Flores, paleoanthropologists discovered small skeletons that they described as a previously unknown hominin species, Homo floresiensis. These are informally named hobbits and appear to have stood about 1 m (3.3 ft) tall. The most complete individual (LB1) is dated as 18,000 years old.

Flores taught for five years and worked for one year at a sugar mill in the island of Vieques. In 1918, he served in a clerical position in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army when he was 24 years old. n 1926, Flores went to New York without any formal musical education and joined another Puerto Rican composer, Rafael Hernandez in his "Trio Borinquen". Even though Flores and Hernandez became very good friends, they also became competitors as composers. When Flores wrote "Sin Banderas", Hernandez rushed and wrote "Preciosa". In 1930, Flores formed his own trio which he named "Trio Galon", and whose music and songs had a faster beat then the "Trio Borinquen". Flores had problems with the music publishing company and he abandoned the trio. He moved to Mexico and then lived in Cuba for a short period of time. Flores eventually returned to New York where he reorganized his "old" trio. Some of the singers of this new trio were Myrta Silva, Daniel Santos and Pedro Ortiz Davila "Davilita". Some of the songs written by Flores were: "Amor Perdido" (Lost Love), "Bajo un Palmar" (Under the Palm Tree), "Borracho no Vale" (which may translate to "Being Drunk Doesn't Count" or "A Drunk isn't Worth Anything"), "Linda", "Sin Banderas" (Without a Flag), "Despedida" (Farewell) and "Perdon" (I'm Sorry). Among those who have performed his songs are: Beny More, Los Panchos, Celia Cruz, and Maria Luisa Landin. A 1996 television special honoring his work features versions by many Puerto Rican and international artists, such as Ednita Nazario, Marc Anthony, Yolandita Monge and Shakira. "Tesoro De Amor" de R. Colmenero. Grabado en 1937. CANTA DAVILITA. Flores (birth name: Pedro Juan Flores Cordova) was one of 12 children born into a poor family in the town of Naguabo, Puerto Rico. Flores' father died when he was only nine years old and therefore, he was forced to work at a young age. When he was 16 years old, he took a special course in the University of Puerto Rico (Universidad de Puerto Rico) and received his teachers certificate. Flores taught for five years and worked for one year at a sugar mill in the island of Vieques. In 1918, he served in a clerical position in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army when he was 24 years old. In 1926, Flores went to New York without any formal musical education and joined another Puerto Rican composer, Rafael Hernandez in his "Trio Borinquen". Even though Flores and Hernandez became very good friends, they also became competitors as composers. When Flores wrote "Sin Banderas", Hernandez rushed and wrote "Preciosa". In 1930, Flores formed his own trio which he named "Trio Galon", and whose music and songs had a faster beat then the "Trio Borinquen". Flores had problems with the music publishing company and he abandoned the trio. He moved to Mexico and then lived in Cuba for a short period of time. Flores eventually returned to New York where he reorganized his "old" trio. Some of the singers of this new trio were Myrta Silva, Daniel Santos and Pedro Ortiz Davila "Davilita". Some of the songs written by Flores were: "Amor Perdido" (Lost Love), "Bajo un Palmar" (Under the Palm Tree), "Borracho no Vale" (which may translate to "Being Drunk Doesn't Count" or "A Drunk isn't Worth Anything"), "Linda", "Sin Banderas" (Without a Flag), "Despedida" (Farewell) and "Perdon" (I'm Sorry). Among those who have performed his songs are: Beny More, Los Panchos, Celia Cruz, and Maria Luisa Landin. A 1996 television special honoring his work features versions by many Puerto Rican and international artists, such as Ednita Nazario, Marc Anthony, Yolandita Monge and Shakira. Pedro Flores died in San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 14, 1979 and is buried in Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery located in Old San Juan.

Flores' father died when he was only nine years old and therefore, he was forced to work at a young age. When he was 16 years old, he took a special course in the University of Puerto Rico (Universidad de Puerto Rico) and received his teachers certificate. Flores taught for five years and worked for one year at a sugar mill in the island of Vieques. In 1918, he served in a clerical position in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army when he was 24 years old. In 1926, Flores went to New York without any formal musical education and joined another Puerto Rican composer, Rafael Hernandez in his "Trio Borinquen". Even though Flores and Hernandez became very good friends, they also became competitors as composers. When Flores wrote "Sin Banderas", Hernandez rushed and wrote "Preciosa". In 1930, Flores formed his own trio which he named "Trio Galon", and whose music and songs had a faster beat then the "Trio Borinquen". Flores had problems with the music publishing company and he abandoned the trio. He moved to Mexico and then lived in Cuba for a short period of time. Flores eventually returned to New York where he reorganized his "old" trio. Some of the singers of this new trio were Myrta Silva, Daniel Santos and Pedro Ortiz Davila "Davilita". Some of the songs written by Flores were: "Amor Perdido" (Lost Love), "Bajo un Palmar" (Under the Palm Tree), "Borracho no Vale" (which may translate to "Being Drunk Doesn't Count" or "A Drunk isn't Worth Anything"), "Linda", "Sin Banderas" (Without a Flag), "Despedida" (Farewell) and "Perdon" (I'm Sorry). Among those who have performed his songs are: Beny More, Los Panchos, Celia Cruz, and Maria Luisa Landin. A 1996 television special honoring his work features versions by many Puerto Rican and international artists, such as Ednita Nazario, Marc Anthony, Yolandita Monge and Shakira. Pedro Flores died in San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 14, 1979 and is buried in Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery located in Old San Juan.

LA VOZ INCONFUNDIBLE DE PEDRO FLORES, EL CAMBA SOTA
“Cambita dame tu cariño para mí, porque te quiero, aguaterita, dulce amor, dime que sí”, cantaba Pedro Flores Escalante y las mujeres cruceñas suspiraban. Continuaba con “Desde Santa Cruz con mi negra yo voy hasta el Piraí pa’ gozar mejor” y la fiesta se armaba en el Piraí, en las casas, en los locales nocturnos y donde fuera que llegara la voz de este legendario personaje de la tierra oriental, conocido como el Camba Sota.
Recordado por poseer un inconfundible registro vocal entre los artistas de la región, Sota también es fiel representante del cruceño con espíritu carnavalero, ese que hace de la bohemia una forma de vida.
Amante de su tierra, Pedro Flores Escalante nació el 15 de abril de 1938 en Santa Cruz de la Sierra Bolivia. Fue hijo de Ignacio Flores y Luisa Escalante. Su vocación por la música se remonta a principio de los años 50, cuando formó parte de la orquesta Tasca, propiedad de Irene Flores, en la que hizo de baterista y de guitarrista.
Según el líder de Los Cambitas, Armando Terceros, uno de los maestros de guitarra del Camba Sota fue el chileno ‘Pepe’ Ávila, que radicó varios años en la capital cruceña. En 1952 comenzaron sus actuaciones como cantante en radio Electra y radio Rural. En 1957 creó su primer trío, Los ases del ritmo, con Carlos Cortez y Julio Ribera. En 1958 formó el conjunto Los amantes del ritmo, junto con Wálter Borda, Manuel Arredondo y Pedro Rodríguez.
Estos dos últimos, junto a Sota, viajaron por primera vez al exterior, inicialmente a Argentina, donde el director de la radio Güemes, de Salta, rebautizó al conjunto con el nombre de Los Cruceños. El grupo viajó al año siguiente a Buenos Aires para tocar en programas de televisión y en teatros. Allí grabaron su primer Long Play con música oriental titulado Bolivia canta con Los Cruceños, que cosechó éxitos en el país vecino, incluso sus canciones se escucharon en Chile.
Al volver a su tierra natal, una caravana los acompañó desde el aeropuerto El Trompillo hasta la plaza 24 de Septiembre, donde los agasajaron. Al poco tiempo, el trío se desintegró y Salvador Rodríguez junto a los hermanos Oyola formaron Los Cruceños en Argentina.
Después de idas y venidas al exterior, Sota optó por quedarse en Santa Cruz de la Sierra, donde se sentía a gusto y querido por todo el mundo. En lo musical, tuvo una conexión inmediata con Gladys Moreno, a la que acompañó en gira por el país y terminó siendo su compadre.
El Camba Sota también compartió giras con Los Cambitas, con Los Cunumis y con el Cuarteto Santa Cecilia. Entre 1972 y 1978 grabó dos discos como solista, uno bajo el sello Lauro y otro financiado por Panamericana Discos.
