Danbury, Connecticut
Danbury is a city in northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, approximately 70 miles from New York City. Danbury's population at the 2010 census was 80,893. Danbury is the fourth most-populous city in Fairfield County, and seventh among Connecticut cities. The city is located within the New York metropolitan area.
The city was named for the place of origin of many of the early settlers, Danbury, Essex, England, and has been nicknamed Hat City, because of its history in the hat industry, at one point producing almost 25% of America's hats. The hat industry polluted the Still River with mercury. There is also a mineral named for Danbury, danburite.
Danbury is home to a regional hospital as well as Western Connecticut State University.
History
Danbury was settled by colonists in 1685, when eight families moved from what are now Norwalk and Stamford, Connecticut. The Danbury area was then called Pahquioque by its namesake, the Pahquioque Native Americans. One of the original settlers was Samuel Benedict, who bought land from the Paquioques in 1685, along with his brother James Benedict; James Beebe, and Judah Gregory. Also called Paquiack ("open plain" or "cleared land") by local Native Americans, the settlers chose the name Swampfield for their town, but in October 1687, the general court decreed the name Danbury. The general court appointed a committee to lay out the boundaries of the new town. A survey was made in 1693, and a formal town patent was granted in 1702.

Hurricane Irene
Hurricane Irene was a large and destructive tropical cyclone, which affected much of the Caribbean and East Coast of the United States during late August 2011. Irene is ranked as the seventh-costliest hurricane in United States history. The ninth named storm, first hurricane, and first major hurricane of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, Irene originated from a well-defined Atlantic tropical wave that began showing signs of organization east of the Lesser Antilles. Due to development of atmospheric convection and a closed center of circulation, the system was designated as Tropical Storm Irene on August 20, 2011. After intensifying, Irene made landfall in St. Croix as a strong tropical storm later that day. Early on August 21, the storm made a second landfall in Puerto Rico. While crossing the island, Irene strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane. The storm paralleled offshore of Hispaniola, continued to slowly intensify in the process. Shortly before making four landfalls in the Bahamas, Irene peaked as a 120 mph (195 km/h) Category 3 hurricane.

Our Town
Our Town is a 1938 three-act play by American playwright Thornton Wilder. It tells the story of the fictional American small town of Grover's Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens.
Throughout Wilder uses metatheatrical devices setting the play in the actual theatre where it is being performed. The main character is the stage manager of the theatre who directly addresses the audience, brings in guests lecturers, fields questions from the audience, and fills in playing some of the roles. The play is performed without a set and the actors mime their actions without the use of props.
Our Town was first performed at McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey in 1938. It later went on to success on Broadway and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It remains popular today and revivals are frequent.
Synopsis
Act I: Daily Life
The Stage Manager introduces the audience to the small town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, and the people living there as a morning begins in the year 1901. Professor Willard speaks to the audience about the history of the town. Joe Crowell delivers the paper to Doc Gibbs, Howie Newsome delivers the milk, and the Webb and Gibbs households send their children (Emily and George, respectively) off to school on this beautifully simple morning.

Getting a job with Jake, he is soon resented by Gunner when he tries to introduce some new methods and also starts showing an interest in Mary. A truck loaded with dynamite gets away from Hard Rock Mason and the loss of the truck causes Jake to have to borrow money from Nellie to keep his business going. Hard Rock is killed in a blast which Gunner decides was his fault, since he wouldn't listen to Johnny's ideas about how to set the charge, and he leaves. Later, when Johnny is testing charges, there is an unexpected blast and he is trapped in the tunnel.

**No metal detecting in this video.** I filmed this at the spur of the moment. There is a gun range across the street, which is why it sounds like WWIII. The sound goes on & off through the vid. I've had this laying around so I threw it up for local interest. This is from September 2011 when the property was sold. I was there for an estate sale and decided to walk around the abandoned cottages with my video camera. I think most of it was going to be bulldozed. I don't have any footage of the store interior and the owner did not want me going inside any of the cottages. The store still had the same stock since my last visit in 1985. The totem poles, signs and statues were sold a few years before. The Indian Trading Post was a landmark on Rt 7 since the 1950s. The cottages were opened i...

**No metal detecting in this video.** I filmed this at the spur of the moment. There is a gun range across the street, which is why it sounds like WWIII. The sound goes on & off through the vid. I've had this laying around so I threw it up for local interest.
This is from September 2011 when the property was sold. I was there for an estate sale and decided to walk around the abandoned cottages with my video camera. I think most of it was going to be bulldozed.
I don't have any footage of the store interior and the owner did not want me going inside any of the cottages. The store still had the same stock since my last visit in 1985. The totem poles, signs and statues were sold a few years before.
The Indian Trading Post was a landmark on Rt 7 since the 1950s. The cottages were opened in the 1930s, they were not used much after the 1950s. The owner gave me the old photo and souvenirs shown in the beginning.
