Welcome Fullfridge

Fullfridge open its doors tonight at midnight. I just wanted to say welcome to this new netlabel because it’s from France, and not from Paris but from the mountains, and most of the forthcoming releases will be downloadable for free on their website, which show how much they make it for the love of the music and the pleasure to share their  particular visions of it.

If we ask them who they are, this is what they answer:

“Fullfridge Music is an independant bass label based in the French Alps, driven by the only desire to follow its ears and push artists in progress from the worldwide scene. The very nature of net-label is based on the constant research for fresh future bass visions and finds its first pleasure by bridging gaps between dance music and home listening, sometimes by putting sofas on dancefloors and other times by plugging sound-systems in your lounge, whatever ? By the digital stuff we choose to release as free and artists in which we put our trust in, we hope to pass ages as your mom and dad transmitted you their golden age music.”

BAOBINGA & ID (Bristol – UK)
– hot and funky bass –

Incontournable !

SUBMERSE (Liverpool – UK)
– future garage –
http://soundcloud.com/submerse

INDIGO (Manchester – UK)
– deep dubstep-
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Indigo/110489522334168

NEAT (Lon – FR)
– post dubstep –
http://soundcloud.com/neat

FLATMATE (Lyon – FR)
– neuro dubstep –
http://soundcloud.com/flatmate
Beware !

ISOTROPH (Dijon – FR)
– dub techno –
http://soundcloud.com/isotroph
Don’t be late…

Newcity – Kind of “Best of” 2010

I think “Best of” is a bit boring sometimes, but we all love it, and I love it too.
Making this post on the blog gave me a good reason to look back on ending 2010 and analyse what I saw/heard/listened/enjoyed/felt…. I’m sure I’ll  forget some but here are a few things I want to share with you:

First I thought about all the gigs I went.
Because I’m really crazy about time management, everything (or almost) everything I do in life is noted in my diary to be sure not to miss or forget them. I had fun counting them. I went to almost 40 gigs over this year. It’s silly. There are a few I wanna mention (in chronological order) because they marked my mind which means that (to me at least!) they were probably absolutely awesome.

March 6thPinch & Distance B2B at DMZ Birthday (Mass, London)
March 19th –  Silkie & Quest B2B at Cool & Deadly (Glazart, Paris)
March 26 th _ Dirtyphonics Live at Jungle Juice (Cabaret Sauvage, Paris)
April 2ndLoefah at Splash! (Cabaret Sauvage, Paris)
April 15thVon D at Next Hype! (Social Club, Paris)
September 17thMount Kimbie (Point Ephemere, Paris)
October 9thAphex Twin at Nordik Impact Festival (Caen, France)
October 23th – Riskotheque at Cool & Deadly (Glazart, Paris)
December 12thSepalcure at Hotflush Tour gig (Rex Club, Paris)

There are also a few mixes on my iPod which I wonder if are scratched by being played so much whilst riding my bike, in the subway, train, airplane or at home !
Here they are in random order with links for you to grab them:

Phaeleh – Afterglo 0.01

Tayo – Simbasonic Mixtape

Von D – Big Up Magazine
http://soundcloud.com/vond/big-up-magazine-podcast-31-von-d

Malilone – DOTS
http://www.mixcloud.com/drumzofthesouth/dots-malilone-mixtape/

I also like visual art, I’m unable to do anything with my hands, but sometimes I’m touched by something I see. A few people made my brain turn upside down this year like David Shillinglaw (http://www.davidshillinglaw.co.uk/) who made a crazy “one night exhibition” in Paris thanks to Jekyll and Hyde crew (http://jekyllethyde.fr/).
I also want to mention Basquiat huge exhibition which still takes place in Paris (http://mam.paris.fr/fr/expositions/basquiat)  and the Larry Clark one (http://mam.paris.fr/fr/expositions/larry-clark), and not to forget the story of the Sunflower Seeds work at The Tate Modern. (http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/unileverseries2010/default.shtm)
… to be continued…

I think to make a list of “best of” 2010 tracks is the most difficult because there are so many.  So I decided to make just a selection of a few (I know it’s a big “few”). Also random order (no jealousy haha!).

Hyetal – Phoenix – 002

Baobinga & DVA – This One’s Wavey – Build

Opti – Between My Eyes And Everything I Look At

F – Energy Distortion – (7EVEN12 )

Phaeleh – Tachi (feat. Alex Taylor)

Skinnz – KeepItGutta – Boka

and finally, I wish you a wonderful new year 🙂

D.O.T.S. STAND HIGH Dubadub MixtApe

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The story begins in 2000 in Britain (France). Two guys decide to create a sound system with the aim of sharing their common passion for roots reggae productions and early digital. Rootystep (selecta) and MacGyver (operator) begin to collect records and purchase music equipment.  They are quickly joined by Pupa Jim who becomes MC, singer and dub creator / composer. Featuring on a few unmissable tracks like the huge “Vampaya” from Tayo meets Acid Rockers, Pupa Jim’s shrill voice so characteristically symbolises the inprint of their productions.

The Stand High Patrol first toured the land of Brittany, gradually moving towards stepper dub production emanating from the English stage. 10 years later, the sound is more present than ever. With hard work and a healthy dose of inventiveness, Stand High has created a true identity and has established itself as one of the essential sound systems of the French dub scene.

The Patrol also runs famous “DUBADUB” gigs in Brest. It takes place in a historical hotel basement which was a cabaret in the 60’s where they bring a huge (and funny yellow painted) sound system. They have already invited artists like Disrupt, Soom T, Dan Man, OBF, Echo Ranks, Murray Man, The Dub Machinist, Ma Kaya…

MacGyver being very greedy, has cooked this exclusive mix 100% Stand High productions for our happyness.

Merry Christmas 🙂

“We are all becoming zombies, only it’s happening very slowly…”

To celebrate Isotroph’s new EP release on French label Airflex Labs, one of the labels founders, Perkid, has kindly made D.O.T.S an exclusive mix.

Perkid has been playing Techno and UK Breaks for a long time, but has a love of all kind of bass-driven music, from Dub to Techno to Hip Hop. For this mix-tape, he wanted to focus on the deeper side of techno, showing and allowing you to discover the side of this scene in which Isotroph is evolving.

Isotroph (Nicolas Couval) is a producer based in Dijon, France. After years of editorial activism in french leading webzines, hundreds of musical reviews, he decided to start writing his own music, using his extended experience as a listener and reviewer as a rock-solid base for what had to become the Isotroph entity. Back in 2008, he started to express his conception of deep electronic music which takes its roots in the berlin dub techno as well as UK’s deep dubstep scenes. After several remarked uploads on music-oriented social networks such as Soundcloud, he started working with French experimental bass music label F4T Music (and also his friends from Airflex Labs’). This collaboration led to the release of the Eclosion EP on F4Tmusic, a real three acts odissey into deep ambient and dub techno universes.
