The Dutch food scene in Rotterdam has been evolving recently, now you can experience street food and Dutch food in Rotterdam from the newest food hall, the Markthal. Markthal is the first indoor food market in the Netherlands (opened in October 2014). It is housed in a spectacular horse shoe-shaped arch, designed by Dutch architects MVRDV, which boasts 100 fresh produce units, 15 food shops and 8 restaurants.
One of the highlights is the world’s largest artwork called Horn of Plenty by artist Arno Coenen, which covers the ceiling area of 11,000 m2.

Today we are in Rotterdam in the newly opened Markthal. It's the biggest food market in The Netherlands and I'm hungry. We're here to experience Rotterdam Street Food like the locals.
The Markthal has the largest artwork in The Netherlands at 11000 squared meters it's truly impressive. There's a massive selection of fruit and vegetables a lot of which we have never seen. No idea what they are. No clue. Absolutely none. Like this thing. No idea. So beautiful, the way they've display it.
There's a dizzying selection of products. If you suffer from choice paralysis, like I do, then this is definitely a challenging place. What to eat? There is a tapas bar here doing Pinchos. We're starting with Pinchos. Very hungry, so very happy to eat. Very hungry. Real good.
Above many of the stalls they've got these like roof terraces where the views are just magnificent. We're sitting at one of the roof terraces. We're having a delicious fish soup with some fresh bread.
There's an amazing Patisserie doing a selection of desserts that are so artist and beautiful. We've taken macaroons, I've got the chocolate you've got the salted caramel. Lekker, huh? It's really good. Say "Lekker".
It's pretty cool. That's it for our time at the Markthal in Rotterdam.
It's amazing. It's big, there's a huge variety of food, a lovely atmosphere, the artwork is magnificent. If this is your only reason to come to Rotterdam, it's well worth it.

De Markthal in Rotterdam is open. Het is de eerste overdekte markt in Nederland. Het heeft een mooi kunstwerk aan het plafond ontworpen door Arno Coenen met de naam Hoorn des Overvloeds. Hierdoor kreeg het gebouw al snel de bijnaam de Sixtijnse Kapel van Rotterdam. De Markthal zelf is ontworpen door architectenbureau MVRDV.
Onder de marktvoer zit ook nog een supermarkt (Albert Heijn) en een ondergrondse parkeergarage van vier verdiepingen.
The Market Hall in Rotterdam is now open. It is design by architect and urban design practice MVRDV. The art work at the ceiling is designed by Arno Coenen and is called Horn of Plenty. Due to this artwork the Market Hall was nicknamed as the Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam.
Under the market floor there is also a supermarket (Albert Heijn) and an underground car park of four floors.

Rotterdam
Rotterdam (/ˈrɒtərdæm/ or /ˌrɒtərˈdæm/;Dutch: [ˌrɔtərˈdɑm]) is a city in South Holland, the Netherlands, located geographically within the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt river delta at the North Sea. Its history goes back to 1270 when a dam was constructed in the Rotte river and people settled around it for safety. In 1340 Rotterdam was granted city rights by the Count of Holland and slowly grew into a major logistic and economic centre. Nowadays it is home to Europe's largest port and has a population of 624,799 (2014, city proper), ranking second in the Netherlands. The near-complete destruction of Rotterdam's city centre during World War II (known as the Rotterdam Blitz) has resulted in a varied architectural landscape including sky-scrapers, which are an uncommon sight in other Dutch cities. Rotterdam is home to some world-famous architecture from renowned architects like Rem Koolhaas, Piet Blom, Ben van Berkel and others. Recently Rotterdam was listed 8th in The Rough Guide Top 10 Cities to Visit and was voted 2015 European City of the Year by the Academy of Urbanism.

Market hall
A market hall, market house or country market is a covered space historically used as a marketplace to buy and/or sell provisions or livestock, sometimes combined with space for public or civic functions on the upper floor(s).
After this style of market building developed in rural England, it spread to colonial territories of Great Britain, including Ireland and New England in America. A market house is typically located on a market square or wharf.

Tomáš Berdych
Tomáš Berdych (Czech pronunciation: [ˈtomaːʃ ˈbɛrdɪx]; born September 17, 1985) is a Czech professional tennis player. His most notable achievement was reaching the final of the 2010 Wimbledon Championships, causing consecutive upsets by defeating top seed and six-time champion Roger Federer in the quarterfinals, and World No. 3 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. In the final, he lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets. Berdych's biggest career win to date was the Paris Masters in 2005 as an unseeded player, defeating Ivan Ljubicic in the final.
Berdych has reached the semifinals of all four Grand Slams. Alongside his Wimbledon performance in the same year, he reached the semifinals of the 2010 French Open, defeating fourth seed Andy Murray in straight sets in the fourth round, and dropping no sets until his loss in the semifinals to Robin Söderling. At the 2012 US Open he defeated World No. 1 Roger Federer, again at the quarterfinal stage, before losing to eventual champion Murray. During the 2014 Australian Open he lost to eventual champion Stanislas Wawrinka in four sets during the semi. He is the second player (after David Nalbandian) to defeat Roger Federer multiple times in Grand Slam events before the semifinal stage. He has the distinction of being one of three players, the others being Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Stan Wawrinka, to defeat all the Big Four in major events.

Food court
A food court (in Asia-Pacific also called food hall) is generally an indoor plaza or common area within a facility that is contiguous with the counters of multiple food vendors and provides a common area for self-serve dinner.
Food courts may be found in shopping malls, airports, and parks. In various regions (such as Asia, the Americas, and Africa), it may be a standalone development. In some places of learning such as high schools and universities, food courts have also come to replace or complement traditional cafeterias.
The average cost of a meal per person in an American food court in 2004 was $6.
Typical usage
Food courts consist of a number of vendors at food stalls or service counters. Meals are ordered at one of the vendors and then carried to a common dining area. The food may also be ordered as takeout for consumption at another location, such as a home, or workplace. In this case, it may be packaged in foam food containers, though one common food tray used by all the stalls might also be utilitzed to allow the food to be carried to the table. Food courts may also have shops which sell prepared meals for consumers to take home and reheat, making the food court a daily stop for some.

De Markthal in Rotterdam is open. Het is de eerste overdekte markt in Nederland. Het heeft een mooi kunstwerk aan het plafond ontworpen door Arno Coenen met de naam Hoorn des Overvloeds. Hierdoor kreeg het gebouw al snel de bijnaam de Sixtijnse Kapel van Rotterdam. De Markthal zelf is ontworpen door architectenbureau MVRDV. Onder de marktvoer zit ook nog een supermarkt (Albert Heijn) en een ondergrondse parkeergarage van vier verdiepingen. The Market Hall in Rotterdam is now open. It is design by architect and urban design practice MVRDV. The art work at the ceiling is designed by Arno Coenen and is called Horn of Plenty. Rotterdam Sunday open court
Rotterdam May 17th open court run. It was carnage from the start. A few friends pulled together a stationwagon worth of Amsterdamions to venture north last Sunday. My eardrums are still bleeding from ridiculously loud courtside beats, and my legs needed some serious bath time to recover from numerous jam session after jam session with the Dutch locals. ROTTERDAM -- A man was in court this evening for the preliminary hearing in a disturbing case. Craig Ackerman is charged with breaking into a Rotterdam home last month, then allegedly raping a woman and physically assaulting her son. He was able to get away, but was arrested in Camden, N.C. a few days later. The judge has issued protection orders for the two victims.

Markthal is the first indoor food market in the Netherlands (opened in October 2014). It is housed in a spectacular horse shoe-shaped arch, designed by Dutch architects MVRDV, which boasts 100 fresh produce units, 15 food shops and 8 restaurants.
One of the highlights is the world’s largest artwork called Horn of Plenty by artist Arno Coenen, which covers the ceiling area of 11,000 m2.

Today we are in Rotterdam in the newly opened Markthal. It's the biggest food market in The Netherlands and I'm hungry. We're here to experience Rotterdam Street Food like the locals.
The Markthal has the largest artwork in The Netherlands at 11000 squared meters it's truly impressive. There's a massive selection of fruit and vegetables a lot of which we have never seen. No idea what they are. No clue. Absolutely none. Like this thing. No idea. So beautiful, the way they've display it.
There's a dizzying selection of products. If you suffer from choice paralysis, like I do, then this is definitely a challenging place. What to eat? There is a tapas bar here doing Pinchos. We're starting with Pinchos. Very hungry, so very happy to eat. Very hungry. Real good.
Above many of the stalls they've got these like roof terraces where the views are just magnificent. We're sitting at one of the roof terraces. We're having a delicious fish soup with some fresh bread.
There's an amazing Patisserie doing a selection of desserts that are so artist and beautiful. We've taken macaroons, I've got the chocolate you've got the salted caramel. Lekker, huh? It's really good. Say "Lekker".
It's pretty cool. That's it for our time at the Markthal in Rotterdam.
It's amazing. It's big, there's a huge variety of food, a lovely atmosphere, the artwork is magnificent. If this is your only reason to come to Rotterdam, it's well worth it.

New Amsterdam Travel Video- There is so much to see in Rotterdam, we had to return to make a second video. In this episode, Sander and Rich take you to big cultural & entertainment areas of the city. This video is a city guide and city tour of Rotterdam. You'll see my top 5 highlights of one of the most modern cities in Europe.
Above all, Rotterdam is a city with vision. It was very nearly completely destroyed during World War II and chose to see the devastating loss as an opportunity to innovate and build anew. The city was a blank slate for architects and artists. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of war, this Dutch city has become a city of the future. Rotterdam is a centre for design, art, architecture, and sustainability. Locals joke that you should take a photo of the skyline today because it won't be the same tomorrow.
The Floating Forest is a great symbol of all that Rotterdam cultivates and inspires. It's an art installation of twenty live trees floating in the harbour. Rotterdam has the largest harbour in Europe and you can't talk about the city without reference to the water. The trees are recycled from the city's 'tree bank.' With all the new construction, trees are sometimes cut down in the march of progress. Now, instead of being chopped, they are moved to a tree bank for further use and enjoyment. The trees float in recycled sea buoys that are filled with fresh water to sustain the trees. The artist, Jorge Bakker, hopes the public art will get people talking about the relationship between the city dweller and nature. In this time of climate change and urbanization, this is relevant not only to Rotterdam but the entire world.
The Erasmus Bridge - Erasmusbrug, in Dutch - is the graceful link between northern and southern Rotterdam. Locals adore this steel-cabled suspension bridge and lovingly refer to it as 'the swan.'
Nearby the bridge, and across from the Fenix Food Factory, is Hotel New York. This is the former head office of the Holland America Line - the first shipping and passenger ship connecting the Netherlands and the United States. It was also the first connection between the two continents.
The newest architectural gem of Rotterdam is the Market Hall (Markthal). It's the first covered market in the Netherlands and is a masterful example of innovative multi-use space. Inside you'll find food vendors, shops, restaurants, parking for 1200 cars and over 200 residential apartments. The exterior is plain grey stone so as to draw attention to the interior which is dominated by the massive painting on the ceiling. Covering 11,000 square metres, it's the largest painting in the world and is known as the Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam.
Just across from the Markthal are the world-famous, iconic cube houses. Conceived and designed in the 1970s to solve the dilemma of housing above a pedestrian bridge, these atypical homes show, again, how Rotterdam answers limitation with innovation. The cube houses are meant to represent an abstract forest and are tilted at an angle that gives excellent views of the surrounding area. Ironically, however, because of the slanted walls and ceilings, only a quarter of the interior space is actually usable.

This video is a city guide and city tour of Rotterdam. You'll see my top 5 highlights of one of the most modern cities in Europe.
Above all, Rotterdam is a city with vision. It was very nearly completely destroyed during World War II and chose to see the devastating loss as an opportunity to innovate and build anew. The city was a blank slate for architects and artists. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of war, this Dutch city has become a city of the future. Rotterdam is a centre for design, art, architecture, and sustainability. Locals joke that you should take a photo of the skyline today because it won't be the same tomorrow.
The Floating Forest is a great symbol of all that Rotterdam cultivates and inspires. It's an art installation of twenty live trees floating in the harbour. It is a combined cable-stayed and bascule bridge, connecting the north and south parts of this city, second largest in the Netherlands.
The bridge was named after Desiderius Erasmus a.k.a. Erasmus of Rotterdam, a prominent Christian renaissance humanist

The Markthal is a residential and office building with a market hall underneath.
The inside of the building is adorned with an 11.000 m2 artwork by Arno Coenen, named Hoorn des Overvloeds (Horn of Plenty).
3. Euromast
Euromast is an observation tower, designed by Hugh Maaskant. Constructed between 1958 and 1960.
The Tower is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
2. Diergaarde Blijdorp
It is a zoo and one of the oldest zoos in the Netherlands. In 2007, it celebrated its 150th anniversary.
Diergaarde Blijdorp is a member of the Dutch Zoo Federation (NVD) and the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).

It is located at the Museumpark in the district Rotterdam Centrum, close to the Kunsthal and the Natural History Museum.

New Amsterdam Travel Video- There is so much to see in Rotterdam, we had to return to make a second video. In this episode, Sander and Rich take you to big cultural & entertainment areas of the city. Begin in the middle of Rotterdam's outdoor shopping area, which includes the architecturally stunning Market Hall (Markthal)- one of Europe's biggest indoor food halls. Nearby, don't forget to look in and around the whimsical yellow cube houses. Our next stop is Museumpark, a nice strip of green flanked by five fascinating museums, including Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen which has a huge collection of old and modern art. Lastly, finish your day off on the buzzing Witte de Withstraat with its fun, arty combo of galleries, restaurants and bars. We enjoyed a beer at De Witte Aap, which Lonely Planet voted the best bar in the world! We'll be back to make a 3rd, a 4th and a 5th episode for sure.

Rotterdam (/ˈrɒtərdæm/ or /ˌrɒtərˈdæm/; Dutch: [ˌrɔtərˈdɑm] is a city in the Netherlands, located in South Holland, within the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt river delta at the North Sea. Its history goes back to 1270 when a dam was constructed in the Rotte river by people settled around it for safety. In 1340 Rotterdam was granted city rights by the Count of Holland and slowly grew into a major logistic and economic centre. Nowadays it is home to Europe's largest port and has a population of 633,471 (2014, city proper), ranking second in the Netherlands. The Greater Rijnmond area is home to approximately 1.4 million people and the Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Area makes for the 168th most populous urban area in the world. Rotterdam is part of the yet larger Randstad conurbation with a total population of 7,100,000.
The city of Rotterdam is known for the Erasmus University, riverside setting, lively cultural life and its maritime heritage. The near-complete destruction of Rotterdam's city centre during World War II (known as the Rotterdam Blitz) has resulted in a varied architectural landscape including sky-scrapers, which are an uncommon sight in other Dutch cities. Rotterdam is home to some world-famous architecture from renowned architects like Rem Koolhaas, Piet Blom, Ben van Berkel and others. Recently Rotterdam was listed eighth in The Rough Guide Top 10 Cities to Visit and fifth in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2016 and was voted 2015 European City of the Year by the Academy of Urbanism.
The port of Rotterdam is the largest cargo port in Europe and the 10th largest in the world. Rotterdam's logistic success is based on its strategic location on the North Sea, directly at the mouth of the Nieuwe Maas (New Meuse) channel leading into the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta. The rivers Rhine, Meuse, and Scheldt give waterway access into the heart of Western Europe, including the highly industrialized Ruhr region. The extensive distribution system including rail, roads and waterways have earned Rotterdam the nickname "Gateway to Europe", and, conversely; "Gateway to the World" in Europe.

New Amsterdam Travel Video- We like taking you to other places in The Netherlands outside of Amsterdam. Rotterdam is a world-class city with so much to see and do. So much so, we had to limit this episode to just the harbor areas of the city. Luckily our hosts, Rich from Holland Photography Tours lives there and Sander was born there. So they are the perfect guides for a great day. Delfshaven still has Old World charm that contrasts most of the city's modern, sleek architecture. This quaint harbor is known as the starting point for the Pilgrim Fathers making their way to America. Leuvehaven is home to the Maritime Museum with different kinds of ships moored outside for you to discover and explore. Katendrecht is a hip, renovated area centered around the Fenix Food Factory. Hotel New York will take you back to the early 1900s when the Holland America Line shipped immigrants to the New World. Everything is easy to get to with an efficient tram and metro system and the speedy water taxis will give you a thrilling ride. We're already planning our next Rotterdam visit and episode!

De Markthal in Rotterdam is geopend!. De Markthal in Rotterdam staat bij de Binnenrotte, Hoogstraat en Blaak. Het is een woon- en winkelgebouw met inpandige Markthal. De bouw is begonnen in oktober 2009. De opening was op 1 oktober 2014 en werd geopend door koningin Máxima. Naast een overdekte markt herbergt het complex 228 appartementen, 4600 m² winkelruimte, 1600 m² horeca en een parkeergarage voor meer dan duizend auto's. De Markthal ligt in het midden van de stad vlak naast de eeuwen oude Sint-Laurenskerk. De Markthal is bereikbaar op loopafstand vanaf Trein, metro, tram en bus station Rotterdam Blaak. The sound and the video are better and you still have complete performances. This compilation is part of the Cine Collections 001, a new series of videos of Bob Dylan. There are some differences with the precedent videos (the Elite Series Volume 013), mainly other angles, better colours and closer distance. In rare cases the performances are not identical (see dates for comparison). Overall it is a great document from a wonderful year. I found an upgrade on the Earls Court footage from the 1978 Tour. The sound and the video are better and you still have complete performances. This compilation is part of the Cine Collections 001, a new series of videos of Bob Dylan. There are some differences with the precedent videos (the Elite Series Volume 013), mainly other angles, better colours and closer distance. In rare cases the performances are not identical (see dates for comparison). Overall it is a great document from a wonderful year.
