Paris (UK: /ˈpærɪs/ PARR-iss; US: i/ˈpɛərɪs/ PAIR-iss; French: [paʁi]) is the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the région parisienne, "Paris Region". The City of Paris has an area of 105 km² (41 mi²) and a population of 2,241,346 (2014 estimate) within its administrative borders essentially unchanged since 1860.
Since the 19th century, the built-up area of Paris has grown far beyond its administrative borders; together with its suburbs, the whole agglomeration has a population of 10,550,350 (Jan. 2012 census).Paris' metropolitan area spans most of the Paris region and has a population of 12,341,418 (Jan. 2012 census), or one-fifth of the population of France. The administrative region covers 12,012 km² (4,638 mi²), with approximately 12 million inhabitants as of 2014, and has its own regional council and president.
Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic people called the Parisii, who gave the city its name. By the 12th century, Paris was the largest city in the western world, a prosperous trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe. In the 18th century, it was the centre stage for the French Revolution, and became an important centre of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts, a position it still retains today.
Stanislas "Stan" Wawrinka (French: [vavʁiŋka]; born 28 March 1985) is a Swiss professional tennis player.
He has won two Grand Slam singles titles in his career: the 2014 Australian Open and the 2015 French Open, and has reached a world ranking of no. 3, obtained on 27 February 2014 and held for several months. He also won an Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Masters 1000 tournament at the Monte-Carlo Masters in 2014, and was a finalist at the Rome Masters in 2008 and the Madrid Masters in 2013. Furthermore, he won a gold medal for Switzerland in the men's doubles event at the 2008 Summer Olympics, partnering with Roger Federer, and was part of the Swiss team that won the Davis Cup in 2014. He played in the longest doubles match in history at the Davis Cup tie against the Czech Republic in 2013, partnering with Marco Chiudinelli.
He is one of the few active players on tour to have reached the quarterfinal stage of all four Grand Slams. He is also one of only three players (alongside Tomáš Berdych and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga) to have Grand Slam wins against each of the Big Four (namely Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray), and one of only two (alongside Andy Roddick) to have at least three wins on tour level against each of the Big Four. He has two wins against reigning world number one players in his career, both happened to come in the final (over Nadal in Australian Open 2014 and over Djokovic in French Open 2015) of the two slams he has won. He is the second player to defeat both Nadal and Djokovic in a grand slam final, after Federer.
A film directed by Neels Castillon on a choreography by Marion Motin. Looking defiantly at each other, the opponents take their positions on court. Preparing for the attack, they leap into action, their movements spontaneous but considered, sharp and precise, free yet controlled. Although pitted against each other, the rivals share a symmetry of movement and a common objective: conquering the clay. Transposing the energy of a tennis match and the beauty of its movement into dance - this is the creative aim of Neels Castillon, director of 'Paris sur Court'. The film features Le Moc’ Weston Roland-Garros, the result of a successful collaboration between the long-established shoemaker and the Parisian tournament. This year sees the Roland-Garros brand celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. Fr...

(22 Sep 2016) Guy Wildenstein, the heir of a New York art-dealing empire, was in court in Paris on Thursday for allegedly hiding his family fortune for years in offshore tax havens, with French authorities demanding a staggering 553 million euros (621 million US dollars) in back taxes. Wildenstein, a 70-year-old Franco-American, faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the criminal charges in what is one of the biggest tax fraud trials ever held in France. Lady Michèle Renouf addresses the London Forum in July 2016 on her return from the Paris court where she testified as defence witness for the half-French, half-Scot Prof. Robert Faurisson: this literary analyst and revisionist historian, now 87, was tried for the "crime" of critically assessing historical sources for the alleged homicidal gassings at Auschwitz and other Second World War camps. Prof. Faurisson's latest trial related to his speech at a 2006 international conference in Tehran, which Lady Renouf also addressed. The trial's pretext was the infamous "Gayssot-Fabius" law intended to silence research on the "Holocaust". The Paris court again sought to criminalise Prof. Faurisson's famous sentence which summarises his conclusions. Originally in French, Faurisson's words read in En...
