Xandão y Vicente Pedraza on LAndscape Radio

Vicente Pedraza and I chatted with Dublab co-founder, Frosty for LAndscapes his show on Red Bull Radio, which explores the “rich and varied musical landscape that is Los Angeles.” We spoke in bustling Santee Alley–LA’s own tianguis–over aguas frescas.

I selected from Discos Barba Azul’s catalogue, Shark & Lobo DJ MP3-loaded CDs bought over the years in D.F. (shout-out to Vamanos for sharing “Cumbia Lorana”), and a live recording of Sonido Rumbandela performing at our release party.

Listen in on Tuesday 11am-1pm PST!

New Mix Alert: Talacha’s Frecuencia Sin Frontera

Talacha’s Frecuencia Sin Frontera signals a new point in the evolution of the inherently transnational cumbia genre. In the newest iteration of cumbia, it makes its way from Toy Selecta’s hip-hop insipred reworkings to crunk cumbia and now to a new corner of the DIY, Soundcloud-fueled underground with wepa, in all of its embracing of low-end, lo-fi grittiness.

NEW RIOBAMBA MIXTAPE ON MIXPAK FM + RESIDENT ADVISOR PICK

My mixtape for the Mixpak FM series is here, featured today as Resident Advisor’s Mix of the Day.

For me this mix dove into “channeling rage for, remembrance of, love toward victims of police brutality & state-sanctioned violence, in the U.S. y destructive legacies this country has left & continues to leave elsewhere– ya basta, ya basta, ya basta. A las víctimas– nunca serán olvidados.”

The ‘Prendelo’ video + MPeach feature on Sounds and Colours

MPeach is a Latina del futuro, a Latin of the future, as she titles one of her latest tracks. The future however feels like a question, about what once was and what still is Latin America today. Maybe the answer is in her lyrics, sensual and street-wise, straight out of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela…
