An article on Dec. 25 about the late women’s running pioneer Grete Waitz referred imprecisely to the first time Fred Lebow, a founder of the New York City Marathon, ran the race. While the marathon he ran in 1992 with Waitz was his first time to run the modern course that passes through all five boroughs, it was not his first New York City Marathon. (He ran at the race’s inception, in 1970, when it looped through Central Park; he eventually created the modern course.)
