STEVE PARROTT NAMED NEW CEO OF LEGACY.COM

Founder Stopher Bartol assumes role of Executive Chairman

Jul 22, 2015 - EVANSTON, IL – Legacy.com, the Internet's leader in obituaries and related services, has named Steve Parrott its new CEO. Mr. Parrott joined the company in January 2013 and was named president in January 2014, a title he also retains. Before joining Legacy.com, he was President of CNET Content Solutions, a CBS Interactive company.

Stopher Bartol, Legacy.com's Founder and CEO of 16 years, announced the news to the company yesterday in the following message to employees. He will remain with the company in his new role as Executive Chairman:

Subject: Some important news to share

I have had countless exhilarating days with Legacy.com, and expect to have many more, but today may be one of the most gratifying for me in my 16+ years with the company. This is because I get to announce that Steve Parrott will be our company’s new CEO effective today.

Legacy.com has enjoyed a rich and successful history – from surviving the bursting of the “Dot-com Bubble” in 2000; to building unique and enduring partnerships with newspapers on three continents; to becoming one of the 50 most visited domains in the U.S.; to facilitating the delivery of more sympathy flowers, charitable memorial donations and online condolences than almost any company in the world; to doubling our size in just three years, together with investment and support from Great Hill Partners.

Yet, in 2015 we’ve entered our most exciting era – one in which we aim to honor every person’s legacy, both through greatly expanded reach and even deeper relationships with our traditional partners. During this era, Legacy.com’s network will likely become a Top 25 Internet destination, and serve more people than many of us imagined just a few years ago.

To ensure that we make the most of this opportunity, we’ve built our strongest team ever, led for the past 18 months by Steve as President. We are customer-focused, technically innovative and increasingly international. It was Steve’s previous leadership at CNET, and his appreciation for our unique business model and partners, that first caught my attention. It has been his vision, innovativeness and his genuine love for what we do as a company that has led me to conclude that today he is the right CEO for Legacy.com, and what we aspire to become.

In his new position as President & CEO, Steve will continue to have me by his side as I assume the role of Executive Chairman of the company. In this role I will focus on strategic partnerships and special opportunities like our recent acquisition of Tributes.com, and I’ll support Steve and the company in every way I can in order to achieve our ambitious goals.

Please join me in congratulating Steve, and then let’s get back to our work at hand – we have lots to do, and I know that all of us here have never been more excited about what lies ahead.
