Teno
Teno is a Chilean city and commune in the Curicó Province, Maule Region. A large percentage of inhabitants are of mestizo and Mapuche Indian origin. The main economy is agricultural farming and livestock raising, often by huasos or Chilean cowhands and shepherds.
Demographics
According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Teno spans an area of 618.4 km2 (239 sq mi) and has 25,596 inhabitants (13,298 men and 12,298 women). Of these, 6,729 (26.3%) lived in urban areas and 18,867 (73.7%) in rural areas. The population grew by 6.3% (1,506 persons) between the 1992 and 2002 censuses.
Administration
As a commune, Teno is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a municipal council, headed by an alcalde who is directly elected every four years. The 2008-2012 alcalde is Sandra Valenzuela Pérez (UDI).
Within the electoral divisions of Chile, Teno is represented in the Chamber of Deputies by Roberto León (PDC) and Celso Morales (UDI) as part of the 36th electoral district, (together with Curicó, Romeral, Molina, Sagrada Familia, Hualañé, Licantén, Vichuquén and Rauco). The commune is represented in the Senate by Juan Antonio Coloma Correa (UDI) and Andrés Zaldívar Larraín (PDC) as part of the 10th senatorial constituency (Maule-North).

Tenerife as we know it today as being an island, consisted more than 2 millions of years ago on three little islands, from which one was the Teno mountains of today. Thus, during a trip to the Teno mountains one takes to the oldest part of the island that is approximately Cliffy and sharp rock slopes and long, deep canyons in the Teno mountains 10 millions years old. This lava mountain is characterized by its cliffy and precipitous rock faces that go up to 1000 m, and its deep canyons.
Due to these extreme ground formations, the Teno mountains are a completely inhospitable living space for human beings. Not until a few hundred years ago, several farmers started to populate this part of the island and to use agriculturally some little lowlands. Up to the year 1991, the little villages were practically completely isolated from the outer world. On herder and field paths, one got to the civilized world of the island by making a big effort. Im the year 1991, the road from Santiago del Teide to Masca was finished.
Also today, the few farmers live in the Teno mountains as in the medieval times. In this part of the island, the tourism is only represented by transit and hiking tourists.
Lots of excursion tour buses, jeeps and car hires also hit the mountain roads, particularly during peak summer holiday times so don't expect to be discovering the Teno mountain range on your own, although heading east towards the Anaga Mountain area is much less conjested!

We thought Tenerife was all about 18-30s clubbing, cheap beers, souvenirs and zero culture… Turns out, it’s not! We’ve got 6 things that will change your opinion on Tenerife forever!
Check out some exceptional art and architecture in Santa Cruz. From museums to public parks, theatres, even the elegant town buildings. There are even installations from the local Canaria artist Cesar Manrique.
Go back in time to a prehistoric rainforest. It’s called the Mercedes Forest and it’s in the Anaga Mountains. It was here before humans even inhabited the earth. It’s dense and muggy; feels a bit like a scene from Lord of the Rings.
Climb up to the highest point in all of Spain. Mount Teide is a whopping 12,198 feet above sea level. So high in fact, that all you see beneath you is a sea of clouds when you get to the peak. It is quite literally breath-taking.
Tenerife was also once home to an ancient civilisation called the Guanches. This long-lost race lived in the forest and caves on the island, worshipping the great Mount Teide. In fact, nobody quite knows how they made it on to the island in the first place…
Get in the driver’s seat because Tenerife has phenomenal driving potential. Who’d have thought? Get away from the all-inclusive and rent yourself a car because there are some amazing hair-pin bends and stomach-lurching drops of around 3,000 feet above sea level.
Tied National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is protected from light pollution, meaning that when darkness falls, the constellations shine bright over head.
