Greg Papa

Gregory Charles Papa (born 1962) is an American sportscaster working in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been broadcasting for most of the Bay Area professional sports franchises for nearly 30 years, covering the Oakland Raiders, Oakland Athletics, Golden State Warriors and San Francisco Giants.

Currently, he is best known as the radio play-by-play caller for the Raiders, and the host of Chronicle Live on CSN Bay Area. He and Gary St. Jean do the in-studio analysis for all the Golden State Warriors regular season games on CSN Bay Area. He also co-hosts The Afternoon Delight with John Lund mid-days on 95.7 The Game. He is not related to New York Giants radio broadcaster, Bob Papa.

Career highlights

After graduating from Syracuse University, Papa was a member of the Indiana Pacers' television and radio broadcasting team from 1984 to 1986. Then, he moved west and from 1986 to 1997, he was the radio announcer for the Golden State Warriors (including the famous "Sleepy Floyd Game," where Warrior Sleepy Floyd scored 51 points against the Lakers in a playoff game). From 1997 to 2000, Papa became the lead announcer on the San Antonio Spurs telecasts. During this span, he was also the television play-by-play announcer for the Oakland A's with Ray Fosse from 1989 to 2003.

Tom Flores

Thomas Raymond Flores (born March 21, 1937) is an American former professional football coach and player.

Flores and Mike Ditka are the only people in National Football League history to win a Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach and head coach (Super Bowl IV as a player for the Chiefs, Super Bowl XI as an assistant coach of the Raiders, and Super Bowls XV and XVIII as head coach of the Raiders). Flores was also the first Hispanic starting quarterback and the first minority head coach in professional football history to win a Super Bowl.

Flores is currently a radio announcer for the Raiders Radio Network.

Biography

Football player

Flores played quarterback for two seasons at Fresno City College, beginning in 1955. He was active off the field too, serving on the Student Council and as President of the Associated Men's Students. He received an academic scholarship to study at the College (now University) of the Pacific. Flores graduated from the University of the Pacific in 1958, but was unable to find a job in professional football. He was cut by the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL in 1958, after which he spent the season with the Salinas Packers of the Pacific Football Conference along with future Raider teammate turned pro wrestler Don Manoukian. A second attempt to break into pro football with the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL) in 1959 also failed. In 1960, Flores finally landed a position as a quarterback with the American Football League's Oakland Raiders, who began play in 1960 as a charter member of the league. He was named the Raiders' starter early that season, becoming the first-ever Hispanic starting quarterback in professional football.

Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders are a professional American football franchise based in Oakland, California. The Raiders began playing in 1960 as a member of the American Football League (AFL); they have been a member of the National Football League (NFL) since the 1970 AFL–NFL merger. The Raiders compete in the NFL as a club member of the American Football Conference (AFC) West division. As of the start of the team's 2015 season, the Raiders have an all-time regular season record of 437–388–11, with a playoff record of 25–18.

In the club's first three seasons (1960–1962), the team struggled both on and off the field. In 1963, the Raiders appointed eventual owner/general manager Al Davis to the position of head coach. Under Davis' guidance, the team's fortunes improved dramatically. In 1967, the Raiders reached the postseason for the first time; they went on to win their first, and only, AFL title that year by beating the Houston Oilers in the Championship Game, but they were defeated by the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl II.
